Lucky escape - unfortunate name blunder, anyone realise too late?

Ds2 is Euan, we nearly spelt it Ewan.

He was just writing his name doing the flicky bits so that the U looked more like a W. He's not the only Euan in the class, so followed it with surname initial. Finger spaces need working on.....

I was quite shocked to see Ewank on his picture.

Anyone made a complete blunder and not realised until it was too late?

Yep, we didn't google our dd's name until she was a couple of years old. The photo's that come up are very very inappropriate and it does really worry me for when she's older sad but then I guess you can never know if a name will end up being associated with something bad when you name your kids.

AllegraLilac Tue 11-Jun-13 20:20:05

I know a boy whose initials/name is B J Dick. Terrible.

Redtractoryellowtractor Tue 11-Jun-13 20:21:27

My son is a B J. Shrugs.

AllegraLilac Tue 11-Jun-13 20:23:30

It was more the combination of blow job and dick I was pointing out. BJ is very very common.

loler Tue 11-Jun-13 20:44:22

Dick is quite a tricky surname to work with!

SkivingAgain Tue 11-Jun-13 20:46:29

Still giggle when I think of Shilloh Pitt.

SkivingAgain Tue 11-Jun-13 20:49:01

I worked with a girl who said her parents were A & RS Hole - cheques often raised an eyebrow. No relation I believe but know of a Phyllis Hole she should never have married him

BeaWheesht Tue 11-Jun-13 20:49:38

I hope your surname isn't king

FranKatzenjammer Tue 11-Jun-13 20:49:49

OP I hope your surname isn't Kerr...

RustyBear Tue 11-Jun-13 20:50:08

The mum in the next bed when I had DS was called Weall. She also had a baby boy, called Christopher. She told me she would have called a girl Catherine...

dontblameme Wed 12-Jun-13 18:09:52

Kid you not, there was a Ewan Kerr in my high school! shock

loler Wed 12-Jun-13 19:30:34

His parents really should have talked to more people about the name they were thinking of! Poor child.

I suppose the moral of the story is to always google any name you are thinking of

fussychica Wed 12-Jun-13 19:37:22

I knew a Virginia Hoare - think her parents were trying to over compensate for the surname they'd lumbered her withgrin

dementedma Wed 12-Jun-13 20:38:48

I know an I Browse.

Betrayedbutsurvived Wed 12-Jun-13 20:43:09

In Florida in discovery cove there was a bloke called mike hunt who worked with dolphins

LalyRawr Wed 12-Jun-13 20:53:18

If my MIL had double barrelled her surname she would have been Mrs Blows-Hawes.

I still maintain she should have done it.

Though clearly I would not marry Oh or give his surname to our children grin

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee Wed 12-Jun-13 20:55:34

Minnie - please don't worry, if I google my name I'm a page 3 girl model (if only I had the body to go with it!!), a lawyer, a politician and an artist....

I'm not any of the above grin

loler I'm sure it will catch up with DS when he's a teenager - no matter how you have spelt it, but don't worry, if it wasn't that it would have been something else!

pinkr Wed 12-Jun-13 21:07:29

I knew a Mr A Dick,,, headteacher. The sign on the office door always brought me a giggle!

PoppyWearer Wed 12-Jun-13 21:13:16

I know a Euan K! <narrows eyes at OP>

RNJ3007 Thu 13-Jun-13 19:18:27

Not quite...trying to avoid it!

We're avoiding B names for that reason...

And if I'd double barrelled, we'd be Long-Johnson... cringe

MissOtisRegrets Thu 13-Jun-13 23:53:02

One of my teachers was Harry Kroch.

I also know a Thunda Anne Raines. Honest to God, that is really what her parents actually named her!

WildThongsHeartString Thu 13-Jun-13 23:55:03

My DS has a Ewan Kerr in his class. True!

We don't have any DCs yet but DH and I were discussing this a while ago and he said he liked the name Evan. I wasn't convinced by it and I said "Evan OurSurname sounds a bit like a gay porn star" and then when I googled it sure enough the very first hit was for a gay porn star grin DH now thinks I have a working knowledge of homosexual adult actors I think, but it just proves its always worth googling to check there isn't already someone with that name.

Oh and I knew a girl at school called Amber-Sky. Probably totally outed myself there as I doubt there are many of those around, but it always struck me as a bit odd!

BlueSkySunnyDay Fri 14-Jun-13 00:06:51

Ahh yes I didn't go to that school Pinkr but I was reliably informed the door said Mr Dick - Head grin

BlueSkySunnyDay Fri 14-Jun-13 00:08:00

that was meant to be grin

pinkr Fri 14-Jun-13 00:38:30

Can't be many of them about surely? !

amazingmumof6 Fri 14-Jun-13 01:28:29

the ones I've heard so far:

Dick Rash

Helen Back

Chris Peacock

Ophelia Kok

Sue Doku

Sophie Hu

all real people, first two on tv programme about strange names

and of course Mary Christmas, Mary White-Christmas

amazingmumof6 Fri 14-Jun-13 01:34:52

and a friend named Sophie narrowly avoided her name sounding a bit like an STD!
she wanted to take her husband's surname, but someone pointed she would have become Sophie Lees.

she went for double barrelled instead

I had a lovely teacher at 6th Form College who knew kids well. He ran all the names past us to check if we could fuck with them see any issues. His last name was Pitt. He tried a few then thought he had struck gold with Sam. Sand Pitt then. In a Saaaf Laaandon accent. We saved him. We suggested Cecily for Cess Pitt and Snake but he wasn't having any of it.

If you read MN Mr Pitt, thanks for being such a great teacher.

quertas Fri 14-Jun-13 11:02:44

Works with sibsets too, unfortunately. In the part I heard a lady call her children over the other day. Both lovely names but when called across a playground but a baby brother for Eva should not have been called Lucien. I expected to see a mother walking upright with varying degrees of stooped over children behind her grin

I have a friend who double barelled her surname with her husbands to become ** Green-Pepper

flakjacket Fri 14-Jun-13 11:07:24

I know a Kitty-Lou...

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops Fri 14-Jun-13 11:21:06

I know a child called Hurricane and his surname is Snow. He sounds like an apocalyptic weather forecast.

SlumberingDormouse Fri 14-Jun-13 12:31:15

Oh, I'm giggling at the possibility of Long-Johnson. That cat on YouTube is hilarious so it's a funny connection, not rude!

SorryMyLollipop Fri 14-Jun-13 12:39:58

I have know people called:

Dick Mold
Hugh Janus
Megan Bacon
Liz Behan
Joe Kerr

My friend nearly called their dd1 Yarrick but their surname was Hunt, luckily they realised in time.

Meringue33 Fri 14-Jun-13 12:41:31

There was a William Dick in my class at school. True story.

DC1's initials are MESS. We knew this but liked all the names so much we kept them anyway. Hope it doesn't turn out predictive!
