Too cutesy?

member Tue 11-Jun-13 03:50:23

It will always be associated with being attacked flocks of birds in my mind - sorry!

sashh Tue 11-Jun-13 04:46:58

Birds and those plastic cups.

TwasBrillig Tue 11-Jun-13 05:05:09

Plastic cups. Tommee. . .

BonaDea Tue 11-Jun-13 05:09:10

Silly in my view, sorry.

SanityClause Tue 11-Jun-13 05:22:36

My grandparents had a dog called Tippi.

So that's the association for me.

<unhelpful>

Iusedtowearmakeup Tue 11-Jun-13 06:56:59

I immediately thought Tommee too!

hf128219 Tue 11-Jun-13 06:59:55

Alfred Hitchcock is my first thought.

OneMoreCupOfTeaFirst Tue 11-Jun-13 07:02:03

birds, and then......... Tipp-Ex

I really like Tempi though. I used to have a babysitter Tempi. I think it was short for Temperence.

Is it meant to be short for something? Sounds too much like tipsy for my liking. I think the pregnancy hormones are getting to you. When I was pg I wanted Elphaba, purely so I could use the nn Elfie.

burberryqueen Tue 11-Jun-13 07:31:20

quite cute if your dd was tiny but otherwise...not a serious name.

BlueStarsAtNight Tue 11-Jun-13 07:45:28

Only as a cute nn when they're little. Awful for a teen/adult. It made me think Tommee... too. Can't even think of anything it would be short for!

AnneEyhtMeyer Tue 11-Jun-13 07:53:42

Tippi Hedron was Natalie I think.

Also think of Tommee.

thistlelicker Tue 11-Jun-13 07:58:45

Is it even a name? Can you imagine a 40year old being called tippi .... It may tippi them over the edge!

Wishfulmakeupping Tue 11-Jun-13 08:06:02

Agree with others the birds automatically pops into my head

jessjessjess Tue 11-Jun-13 09:36:20

My friend has a cat called this!

squoosh Tue 11-Jun-13 10:24:52

Birds.

SixPackWellies Tue 11-Jun-13 10:27:30

First though was Hitchcock here too. Too cutsey for me.

Temperance on the other hand...... great name!

(Mind you, when pg I was reading a book with a woman in it called Deliverance Dane and I ached to name my DD that)

sparkle12mar08 Tue 11-Jun-13 10:30:25

Hedren, cups, and Native American shelters. Awful for a child, sorry.

It is a bit too cutesy, yes. You could probably get away with it if you are achingly posh and all your friends' children will be called things like Tigga and Bunty and Binkums, but otherwise it's really too much.

scaevola Tue 11-Jun-13 10:50:34

Quite cute as a nn.

forevergreek Tue 11-Jun-13 10:59:47

Reminds me of tippi degre, the girl who grew up in Africa with wildlife as friends.

I kinda like it.

Maybe get away with Tabitha as name and get to tippi aka - tabbi- tippi ??

rockdakazbah Tue 11-Jun-13 11:05:43

Hmmm, looks like it's back to the drawing board...

Middle name is going to be unusual (family name) so can't give a 'sensible' middle name to fall back on.

Wish I was achingly as quite like the idea of DD having friends called Tigga and Bunty smile

rockdakazbah Tue 11-Jun-13 11:32:55

Oops, that should have said achingly posh smile

It is lovely, The Birds is one of my favourite films. It does sound like a nickname but I wouldn't be able to place from what (didn't know T Hedren was Natalie till pp mentioned - she certainly hasn't outgrown her nn though).

Mind you Marnie is a nickname too but people (Lily Allen) use it as a name in its own right.

Other association would be those tents (tipi).

I worked at a nursery about ten years ago with twins Tippi and Talulah. I didn't know the connection at the time.

Turniptwirl Wed 12-Jun-13 16:36:15

My friends dog.

Tippi should only ever be a nn for something sensible! As a nn it's not that bad but put it on your dd's birth cert and she may never forgive you!

lunar1 Wed 12-Jun-13 16:41:40

Dippi tippi

peanutsandwich Thu 13-Jun-13 00:19:17

Tippi Hedren, Tippi Degre was named after her.

I love it.
