It's a girl! Shortlist decided but just can't choose.

We finally have a shortlist of 3 names for our little girl due in a few weeks:

Middle name is most likely going to be Fay (my mother's name)

I really love all of them but my reservations are:
India - a bit too leftfield?
Claudia - a bit harsh/stuffy?
Merryn - a bit plain?

These are only little niggles so really struggling to choose!
I just need some opinions! No holds barred smile

ItsallisnowaFeegle Fri 24-May-13 08:54:26

Merryn is a beautiful name. I'm not keen on the others.

They are all nice, but Merryn is my favourite.

whyno Fri 24-May-13 09:00:28

Claudia for me. Beautiful and underused.

Won't be harsh or stuffy unless your family is which I'm assuming not since you're concerned about it.

BikeRunSki Fri 24-May-13 09:01:04

Merry is my favourite by far.

Thisisanoutrage Fri 24-May-13 09:02:10

Merryn for me too.

BreasticlesNTesticles Fri 24-May-13 09:05:38

I have a Claudia - so clearly my favourite!

They are all quite different types of names though imo. Just an observation smile

xigris Fri 24-May-13 09:05:42

I like them all! Fab names <helpful> grin

Succoria Fri 24-May-13 09:08:16

Ooh lovely names, you have great taste!
I think Claudia is my favourite, then Merryn, then India. But it's very close because they're all nice.

Fairylea Fri 24-May-13 09:10:43

Merryn. Not keen on India, sorry.

squiddle Fri 24-May-13 09:12:53

I love Merryn, like Claudia and find India a bit irritating.

boatclub Fri 24-May-13 09:16:46

I love Claudia and think it will sound best with Fay. Wishing you a happy birth smile

mumbaisapphire Fri 24-May-13 09:19:17

I have a Claudia right now asleep in my arms. I don't find it stuffy or harsh at all. If anything I was drawn to it because it feels like such a luxurious name if that makes sense! I also love India too but DP struck that one off the list early on. Merryn is pretty as well.

mumbaisapphire Fri 24-May-13 09:21:26

Forgot to say, why not just wait and see which name she suits when she arrives. It's easier when they are here to put a name to a face I found. You have a short list so just try them out. Sometimes it is obvious.

IKnowWhat Fri 24-May-13 09:23:13

I love Merryn the most, closely followed by Claudia.

I am not too keen on India though. I don't think it's leftfield. (Leftfield can be good smile )

Linguaphile Fri 24-May-13 11:04:48

I really like Claudia. Pretty and underused. Only possible hang-up for me is the meaning, but presumably you're not too worried about that.

Startail Fri 24-May-13 11:18:16

Merryn, then Claudia, but I think you'll know when you meet her.

My little dainty DD1 would have made a perfect Merryn, but not a Claudia. Claudia would have suited DD2.

I like India, but it has to feel right to you. We're to middle of the road for an India.

Littlecherublegs Fri 24-May-13 11:46:58

In order of preference:

Though it's a close call between the first two!

Elquota Fri 24-May-13 11:52:04

Another vote for Merryn.

shez29 Fri 24-May-13 12:09:30

I love india.

JojoMags Fri 24-May-13 12:58:09

Not India. The other two are gorgeous. Probably Claudia for me.

LentilAsAnything Fri 24-May-13 13:08:54

What about Indiana, instead of India?
I like Merryn, and also Meredith.

justhayley Fri 24-May-13 13:13:07

I love India.
But agree with what others have said - keep all 3 for when she's born and see what suits

Merryn is my fave of the choices too.

Timetoask Fri 24-May-13 13:15:27

India is a country!!!

Claudia is lovely.

samuelwhiskers Fri 24-May-13 13:16:34

I love India, but Claudia nearly as much.

oscarwilde Fri 24-May-13 13:21:17

Depending on when she is due, use the names in rotation for 1 to 2 weeks between yourself and your DH/P rather than calling her the baby. You'll probably find that one of them feels more right than another.

Have never heard Merryn before, its lovely. I'd give it no 1, then India and then Claudia.

We had trouble deciding too and used our runner up name for Dd2 as we still loved it we just didnt tell anyone what our final choices had been. Both names suit them, I can't imagine swapping the names around.

You'll know which one she is when you see her! I like them all.

StrangeGlue Fri 24-May-13 13:25:00

I love Claudia and merryn and haven't met anyone called these names.

miffybun73 Fri 24-May-13 13:29:05

All lovely names.

I'd not heard of Merryn before, but I think that it's delightful.

I didn't read any baby name books when I had mine so I keep seeing names on here that I'd not come across before.

Viviennemary Fri 24-May-13 13:31:59

I think Merryn is the nicest. But they are all fine.

tigrou Fri 24-May-13 14:01:37

Merryn for me!

sjuperyoni Fri 24-May-13 14:17:11

Merryns awfully popular on MN but not so irl at least in my experience do i'd give that 1s.

It's very pretty, reminds me of murren from braveheart grin

sjuperyoni Fri 24-May-13 14:17:56

So i'd give that 1st even blush

everlong Fri 24-May-13 20:18:27

It's beautiful and dare I say a bit clarsy wink

Mellymog Fri 24-May-13 20:19:31

Merryn is lovely

picnicbasketcase Fri 24-May-13 20:22:36

Claudia is a beautiful name.

JumpingJackSprat Fri 24-May-13 22:41:01

I love claudia. classy and elegant and suits all ages.

Smugfearnleyshittingstool Fri 24-May-13 22:49:12

My dd2 is Claudia and I still adore the name! We haven't met any others either yet

I also love greta and Geraldine.

Sleepyfergus Fri 24-May-13 23:08:29

I have a Claudia (pronounced Claw-dia) so love that choice. We call her 'Clo' for short

I will admit that I don't think it's a baby name but will come into its own when she's a toddler, and naturally as she gets older. I haven't met any others and people do look surprised when they hear it and most think its lovely and unusual.

Also like Merryn on your list. Reminds me of a girl I know who is Meredith but called Merry for short.

TheOriginalSteamingNit Fri 24-May-13 23:10:06

Claudia. Merryn very vogue-ish at the moment, but i personally don't care for it. India is a bit 90s IMO.

Snazzywaitingforsummer Fri 24-May-13 23:11:36

Claudia is my fave of your three, and Claudia Fay goes very nicely.

jellybeans Sun 26-May-13 13:58:38

Hummuschocolate Sun 26-May-13 15:09:17

Merryn is my favourite. I think it would suit any girl whereas the others I seem to have preconceptions about what type of girl they would suit iyswim. All nice names though.

NeverBeenToMe Sun 26-May-13 15:34:09

IJustWoreMyTrenchcoat Sun 26-May-13 23:08:40

Claudia, lovely and underused IMO.

Lurleene Sun 26-May-13 23:17:50

I like Merryn best - before he was born DS was possibly going to be called Marin but luckily for him we came up with a boys' name instead. smile

extracrunchy Sun 26-May-13 23:21:58

Sunnysummer Sun 26-May-13 23:22:00

All so good! My favourite is Claudia - classic but uncommon, and Claudia Fay works so well.

extracrunchy Sun 26-May-13 23:22:35

Yep Claudia Fay is gorgeous smile

changeling1234 Sun 26-May-13 23:27:52

Have name-changed especially for this thread, so's not to out myself! My name is Claudia and I know no others. I really like my name and have always had lots of lovely comments about it. So you can guess which one of your choices I'd go for!

PaperSeagull Mon 27-May-13 02:24:04

Claudia is lovely. I much prefer it to Merryn or India, neither of which I care for.

Claudia was also the name of the main character in one of my favourite children's books, so it has only positive associations for me. smile

sleepywombat Mon 27-May-13 05:21:40

I love Claudia too. I dislike the other names.

lovemybabyboy Mon 27-May-13 19:38:18

All nice, prefer Merryn from your list.

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee Mon 27-May-13 19:41:26

Claudia for sure smile

Weegiemum Mon 27-May-13 19:42:49

I know a Merryn and 2 Mirrins.

Lovely, of yours I'd definitely go with that!

LemonBreeland Mon 27-May-13 19:48:29

I don't like Merryn at all. I like India, but think Claudia is beautiful.

shannon246 Tue 28-May-13 00:41:18

i think claudia-fay would be a nice double barrel name

BooStar Wed 29-May-13 21:58:03

This is all brilliant thank you! Not any closer to deciding but it has at least prompted some deeper discussion with my DH who has been a bit flippant about the whole decision making process!!
Will definitely take the advice about waiting until baby arrives before making final decision.

Frikadellen Thu 30-May-13 08:46:40

I don't care for Merryn at all India and Claudia are both beautiful names . I prefer India to Claudia but only by a smidgen .
