A sister for M@rth@ and Gret@?
Will she be forever called moany mona?!

RubyrooUK Wed 22-May-13 21:30:17

I love it.

I only make boys personally but it would be my number one girl's name in a parallel universe. I'm not sure Ramona is so good for a boy. grin

FringeEvent Wed 22-May-13 21:33:30

I love the name Ramona (I realised I liked it after watching Scott Pilgrim, and hearing this on the soundtrack www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYfUuXmdrgk)

tourdefrance Wed 22-May-13 21:33:58

I love it too.

sillyoldfool Wed 22-May-13 21:36:34

oooh good, my mum's response was that she'll be nicknamed moany... nice to have some positive responses!

Have no idea for a boys name though.

Leeds2 Wed 22-May-13 21:38:28

Makes me think of Ramona Quimby (?), from the books. Not sure if she is a positive role model or not, as I have never read them! Also makes me think of the Ramones.

Ragusa Wed 22-May-13 21:41:07

Oh that's a really lovely name....unusual without being try-hard.

EasterHoliday Wed 22-May-13 21:41:10

absolutely LOVE it. Probably because it makes me think of the Ramones...
best name I've seen spouted round here.

underthemountain Wed 22-May-13 21:41:32

I love Ramona Quimby!

I have to look up Ramona Quimby now! and to my shame I don't know any Ramones songs off the top of my head!

So if we love M@rth@ and gret@ and Ramona, what boy's names should we also like?!

At a total loss for boys names.

ArabellaBeaumaris Wed 22-May-13 21:45:39

It's a great name, & goes really nicely with your other DC (not that I think that sibling names have to "match").

(I have a little G too)

SirDoris Wed 22-May-13 21:47:55

Love it

sillyoldfool Wed 22-May-13 21:48:00

The only worry I have is that our surmane is 0wen, so not sure if Ram0na 0wen sounds a bit '0'-ey....

ArabellaBeaumaris Wed 22-May-13 21:48:09

Amos
Sam
Ezra
Robert
Solomon
Freddie
Magnus
John

that's mine & DP's boys name - never managed to agree on one, lucky we had girls!

Stiefeliblue Wed 22-May-13 21:49:50

my friend is called Romana ,i like both of the names

sillyoldfool Wed 22-May-13 21:50:53

I LOVE Ezra, but DH doesn't, Solomon and Amos are really nice...
hmmmmm

sillyoldfool Wed 22-May-13 21:52:45

We've had a boy's name both previous pregnancies and I've gone off both of them!

I just really struggle with boy's names, I like solid but a bit unusual.

Ragusa Wed 22-May-13 21:56:01

I sort of see what you mean about the preponderance of Os grin but it wouldn't worry me overly. Will she have a middle name as well?

JoyMachine Wed 22-May-13 21:58:21

I love Ramona because of the books!

I don't see how you could top Gret@ though, just dreamy.

pooka Wed 22-May-13 21:59:56

I like it but....

feel it has to be pronounced with rolling rs a la Rrrrrrrrramoooona.

Don't know why. Think there was a character in cold feet - the nanny - who was called rrrrramona and was spanish.

JoyMachine Wed 22-May-13 21:59:59

Just another thought- you'd have three children ending in 'a' sound then too...

What about Romy or Romilly?

Or carry on in the SOM vein and have Brigitta?

sillyoldfool Wed 22-May-13 22:02:53

grin Joymachine, I do love g's name.

She will have 2 middle names... That's a whole other topic, our girls each have a 'normal' middle name, then a slightly crazy hippy one, so we can't now call the 3rd something louise owen or similar!!!!!

sillyoldfool Wed 22-May-13 22:06:45

HA! we honestly didn't get the SOM connection until we announced DD2's name and everyone asked if we were going to have 7!

Romilly is lovely, we are surrounded by Milly's though, really want to steer clear of anything with that in it, and brigitte would end up being called bridget which I'm just not keen on.

I can't roll my Rs!

forevergreek Wed 22-May-13 22:18:13

The Ramona I know has brothers Florian, Adrian, and Samuel

JoyMachine Wed 22-May-13 22:21:16

Mitch Benn has a G. He also has an Astrid (but it doesn't end in 'a')

Do you need Germanic names?
Inga?
Lotte?
Heidi?

sillyoldfool Wed 22-May-13 22:22:30

It doesn't need to be germanic, but we do seem to like germanic names!

MrsFrumble Wed 22-May-13 22:53:29

Ramona is fabulous. I love it! Ramona Aurora is my fantasy name for any future daughters (fantasy, because Mr Frumble would never agree).

You have impeccable taste OP. I also have a Martha wink and Greta is lovely too.

voucherprocon Thu 23-May-13 00:49:29

Look up a Ramones song called She Talks To Rainbows, beautiful. I would think you must be a fan if your DD had that name.

My Dn is called Ramona & everybody calls her Mona unless she is naughty as then she gets her full name which is K***r-Ramona .
It is a beautiful name though & definitely goes with your other Dcs names .

Also Dsis gave her the nickname Mona because of Mona the vampire she even has a cat called Fang like the cartoon grin

OrangeFootedScrubfowl Thu 23-May-13 01:00:38

I like it. smile

Decoy Thu 23-May-13 02:50:54

I think "moaner", sorry!

moreyear Thu 23-May-13 03:54:03

Makes me think of Beezus.

driftwoodsands Thu 23-May-13 21:26:16

Love it! Also am big fan of Ramona Quimby books. A wonderful world.

FetaCheeny Thu 23-May-13 21:39:15

Nowhere near as nice as Greta or Martha. I hear moaner, sorry!

thegreylady Thu 23-May-13 21:39:38

The actress who played Karen in Outnumbered is Ramona Marquez she is a lovely little girl.I like the name.

notso Thu 23-May-13 21:46:44

I love it, really love it. DH vetoed though so booo to him.
Have same surname to you as well smile

Personally I don't like it as it reminds me of ramona from New York housewives grin

Other than that its a nice enough name - goes with Martha (love) and greta (nice).
It doesn't sing to me like Martha does though.

pascalia Sat 25-May-13 01:49:32

Love it

williaminajetfighter Sat 25-May-13 09:13:44
