Trying to.come up with.girls names and this is probablly my definite option....

Story behind it.. DH likes 'Alice' i.said no as it just makes me think of the very rude song (who the f**k is alice) ... And he likes Rose.. I like rose but not.for a first names.

So ive lengthened alice to alissia and used rose as second name..
Rose would be a middle name if it was upto me but we're unsure whether to hyphenate it yet... What do you all think?

My first choice was Olivia but DH.doesnt like sad!

Wahla Tue 21-May-13 11:44:55

Something-Rose seems very popular at the moment, I know four in the last year (Amber-Rose, Imogen-Rose, Alicia-Rose and a Lily-Rose). How would you feel if there were several other girls in your DD's class with the same sort of name?

It wouldn't bother me incidentally, and Alissia-Rose is a perfectly pretty name. Use it if you both like it.

toni1bump Tue 21-May-13 12:05:58

Im.thinking just a middle name and letting her decide what to do with it when she grows up!.. Hmmmm..... Only trying to keep DH happy as he didnt have a say in.anything with.his first daughter (different mum).. Thankyou smile

Blanketsandpillows Tue 21-May-13 12:19:57

I like the name Alissia, and LOVE the name Rose. But I wouldn't put them together as a first name (as in I wouldn't hyphenate).

NotYoMomma Tue 21-May-13 12:21:15

Def no hyphen.

prefer Alyssa to Alissia though, as it is normally spelt Alicia isn't it?

Alyssa Rose Surname

ladymia Tue 21-May-13 13:05:13

The spelling of Alissia seems a bit strange to me? Is that the proper spelling?

No to the hyphen it dumbs down the name IMO

toni1bump Tue 21-May-13 14:18:23

Its normally spelt Alyssia but can be spelt Alissia... .. Would be Alissia Rose Ashworth.. I think it rolls off tongue nicely smile. I agree about not hyphenating, too

jamtoast12 Tue 21-May-13 14:25:19

Don't like the spelling at all... Seems made up even if its not... Def sense of trying to hard I think. The name itself is nice though smile

Agree try find something other than Rose, its what everyone gets, similar to ann when I was younger!

RedJeans Tue 21-May-13 14:26:45

I would spell it Alicia, more like Alice and the traditional spelling I think, also very pretty! I don't mind it hyphenated but maybe with Rose just as a middle name would leave the focus on Alicia which is lovely smile

jamtoast12 Tue 21-May-13 14:32:01

redjeans I agree that spelling is miles better...seems more sophisticated.

toni1bump Tue 21-May-13 14:36:18

I prefer Alicia but thats DHs daughters middle name so cant have sad and is pronounced al-ee-sha.. I just i dont mind Alyssa but i prefer it with an 'i' ... I dont like the letter Y i think it looks a lil masculine.. Hmmm... Confused now :p

GibberTheMonkey Tue 21-May-13 14:36:47

Problem with using the spelling Alicia is some, me included, would make my first assumption at it being pronounced aleesha.

GibberTheMonkey Tue 21-May-13 14:37:05

Xpost smile

Really dislike Alissia, sounds made-up to me. If you don't like Alice, then go for something else. Rose is nice, but PLEASE don't hyphenate.

Oriunda Tue 21-May-13 20:16:43

Don't like Alissia, as others have said sounds made up, and not keen on the hyphen either. I like Alicia Rose (but potential to be pronounced as Aleesha). What about Alessia Rose? (Alessia is Italian version of Alexandra).

olivertheoctopus Tue 21-May-13 20:58:36

I don't like the spelling and think hyphenating is naff. I know someone with a lisp who called his daughter Alicia. Never understood that..

jamtoast12 Tue 21-May-13 21:06:13

I don't understand the idea of Alicia being pronounced aleesha? It reads al..iss..ia? There is no ee sound? Am I issuing something as I know. Few Alicia and they are never said as aleesha?

jamtoast12 Tue 21-May-13 21:06:56

Sorry should say am I missing something as I know a few....

Pobblewhohasnotoes Tue 21-May-13 21:11:15

I don't like the spelling or the hyphen.

To me it should be spelt Alicia, it's not pronounced Al-eesha. Or spell it Alysia. Or how about Elysia?

toni1bump Tue 21-May-13 21:43:08

I quite like Alyssa after someone mentioned it up there ^ .. Al-is-a
Alyssa Rose maybe?

toni1bump Tue 21-May-13 21:44:11

pobble i like Elysia ... May be an option. Thankyou

Karbea Tue 21-May-13 21:48:04

Spell the name correctly and don't hyphenate otherwise it's very chavvy.

toni1bump Tue 21-May-13 22:55:56

I dont think Alyssa is too chavvy? Hmmm

Hyphenated names are awful, and alissia looks made up. Rose is also extremely popular as a middle name.

sandberry Wed 22-May-13 09:51:40

How about the Italian Alessia which is definitely not made up and sounds similar

FuturePerfect Wed 22-May-13 14:22:34

You know what OP? I know you came on here asking for opinions, but there are always going to be people who don't like your choices in life for one reason or another and are blunt about saying so! You don't have to cave in to their random 'rules'. There is nothing wrong with choosing a name you and your partner love.

Moxiegirl Wed 22-May-13 14:26:13

How about Eloise, it's the girl's name I didn't get to use.
I like Alyssa Rose.

miffybun73 Wed 22-May-13 14:59:41

How about Alicia?

toni1bump Wed 22-May-13 17:00:33

I like alicia but as i said in previous post its my DHs daughters middle name sad.. Im thinking either Elysa or Alyssa ..

And i agree FuturePerfect but i wanted a few opinions off here because i didnt want to.give my DD a name that people who i know pretend to like.. I know how honest everyone on here is :p.. Mixed opinions really.. Hmmm... I have a way to go yet anyway so have time to pick correct version/spelling :p.. I think were deffinately going to use Rose as middle name though x

Weegiemum Wed 22-May-13 17:04:47

We considered Alicia - the normal spelling - though we went with something else.

Rose is a very common middle name. Do you have a family name that you'd like to use instead? Or a sentiment you want to express (our dc 2&3 have family names, dd1 has Morna as her middle America, we loved it and it means "beloved").

toni1bump Wed 22-May-13 17:10:25

Nooo no family names sad im named after my dad which is a little embarassing haha.. He is Tony im Toni :p wish we did have a family name it so.much easier!! Grrrr :p Morna is a lovely middle name x

sleepingbeautiful Wed 22-May-13 18:03:46

I like your Alyssa alternative that came up during this thread. Alyssa Rose with no hyphen looks and sounds nice.

toni1bump Thu 23-May-13 10:45:26

I think i have a winner :p x

NotYoMomma Fri 24-May-13 20:41:14

Can I take a moment to be chuffed with myself lol.

I LOVE Alyssa Rose!

CPtart Fri 24-May-13 20:53:38

Love the name spelt Alicia, but not another Rose!

Know an Elissa.

unlucky83 Fri 24-May-13 21:05:06

I wanted to use the name Alice (family name) - but DD1 didn't look like an Alice - and DP didn't like it - in the end DD1's middle name is Alissa.
When DD2 came along (quite a few years later) after lots of dithering - decided she was going to be called 'Lily' but at last minute at the registry office we decided that wasn't right for her and went with Alicia (not A-lee-sha grrr) - we call her 'Lissy'
So DD1 middle name and DD2 first name are almost identical - and it really isn't a problem ...
I really wanted to call her Violet (letty for short) -but DP and DD1 hated it ...
(BTW I still like Alicia but do get annoyed by people asking me how she pronounces it...etc -so maybe not a good idea)....

looneytune Fri 24-May-13 23:56:29

Oh, I thought how much I liked it when I saw the OP title!

PuppyMonkey Fri 24-May-13 23:59:10

I'm just saying, I'm a bit squiffy and I see Axl Rose hashtag Guns n Roses.

Stokes Sat 25-May-13 12:40:16

To be honest, if your DH's daughter's middle name is Alicia, then I think anything in the Alice/Alesha/Alyssa/Alissia range is too close to her name to use...
