Lucas....what does it make you think of? I have an Oliver already and need to find a name for my next ds. I think I prefer Lucas to Luke...what does everyone thinksmile

lambbone Thu 16-May-13 14:10:43

Lucas VASTLY better than Luke!

givemeaclue Thu 16-May-13 14:11:42

I like them both lots

bollockstoit Thu 16-May-13 14:12:58

katieelh Thu 16-May-13 14:16:17

I think it is absolutly lovely, but then I would as I have one myself.its a great name.

BusyBee86 Thu 16-May-13 14:19:34

Katieelh just out of interest do you have any other boys? If so what are they called? I'm stuck for names.

Also what's best....Lucas or James to go with Oliver?

LemonPeculiarJones Thu 16-May-13 14:20:29

Lucas very nice. And very popular atm.

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 14:21:55

Lucas is very nice.

katieelh Thu 16-May-13 14:25:57

I think both go really well. Either lucas or James are a great choice to go with Oliver, we also have a harvey.

miffybun73 Thu 16-May-13 14:41:02

I like James best, then Luke and finally Lucas.

Decoy Thu 16-May-13 15:20:43

I think Luke is much nicer than Lucas, which is a bit wet-sounding.

1. Luke 2. James 3. Lucas

hbmeic Thu 16-May-13 15:22:07

Lucas or James go well with Oliver. Luke is not so nice, reminds me of a naughty rough kid.

BusyBee86 Thu 16-May-13 18:20:26

Thank you for all opinions. Out goes Luke then. Lucas or James it is

ftm42 Thu 16-May-13 18:24:17

Love them both, but I'd opt for Lucas, as chances are it'll get shortened to Luke later in life anyway! I know a Lucas who is called "Lukie" by his Mum [he's 21 now] and Luke by his mates!

Similarly, my Lewis, is Lou to his siblings and classmates, Lou-lou to M&D and Lewis to everyone else!

AThingInYourLife Thu 16-May-13 18:30:58

I prefer Luke, but Lucas is nice too.

What about Charlie?

pigletpower Thu 16-May-13 23:00:58

Make sure you don't end up with a Jamie and an Oliver!!!

jellybeans Sat 18-May-13 15:52:04

Much prefer Luke.

AThingInYourLife Sat 18-May-13 15:56:43

I think I'd rather have a Jamie and an Oliver than an Oliver and a James grin

Secondme Sat 18-May-13 18:58:08

Lucas. Charlie, like it AThing

I prefer Luke

everlong Sat 18-May-13 20:42:55

I like James with Oliver. Also Henry, William and Sam.

Prefer Luke but like Lucas too.

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE Sat 18-May-13 22:04:08

I prefer Luca. I know its not an option, but i like it.

Of luke and Lucas though, it would be Luke I think, but maybe spelled Luc.

MortifiedAdams Sat 18-May-13 22:04:42

I know a ten year old Lucas who is a wonderful lad. Therefore I love the name grin

sashh Sun 19-May-13 10:10:42

Lucas North as in spooks - go for it.

apprenticemum Sun 19-May-13 10:14:25

Allways consider what his school friends will do to it....adding aid could be wearing. Luca is lovely too

TobyLerone Sun 19-May-13 10:54:13

Rhymes with mucus. I hate Luke, too.

When I was at school, Luke was always the snotty kid who puked in assembly.

ReluctantlyBeingYoniMassaged Sun 19-May-13 11:05:19

It was high on our list. I like it.

Yonididnaedaethat Sun 19-May-13 11:16:36

I'm trying to persuade DH on using the name Luke or Lucasmile if its a boy I'm having but he's not keen on either.

FortyFacedFuckers Sun 19-May-13 11:20:55

I love it it was on my list but I decided it was too popular for me.

OrlaKiely Sun 19-May-13 11:22:05

I am really sorry, but it reminds me of worms.

FortyFacedFuckers Sun 19-May-13 11:22:16

Sorry I didn't read the OP properly I love Lucas but I don't like Luke.

OrlaKiely Sun 19-May-13 11:22:43

and what Tobes said. Sadly.

OrlaKiely Sun 19-May-13 11:23:08

Sorry to be so horrible!!! You can still have James though grin

deemented Sun 19-May-13 11:27:10

Lucan i like, but not Lucas.

TobyLerone Sun 19-May-13 11:51:20

I love James, though.

bananaramma Sun 19-May-13 15:30:06

Since someone mentioned that Lucas rhymes with Mucous, that's all I think of now blush. And Luke, I really don't like the sound of, sorry.

Acrackinthefabricoftime Sun 19-May-13 17:08:41

I love Lucas. That gives maximum flexibility as he can still be called Luke.

ohnosnow Sun 19-May-13 20:58:17

Lucas it's a cool name, I have a 15 year old one.

It reminds me of mucus and lupus, though I am definitely in the minority!

goingdownhill Sun 19-May-13 21:42:49

I have a Lucas so obviously I love it. However out of my children he is the only one I would rename if I had the chance. Every time we go out there is always another Lucas. He is Lucas R at school because there is another in his class. I chose it when we lived out of the UK so did not realise how popular it is here. smile

Lucas James.
Sounds lovely. Best of all worlds, get all the names you like, as can revert to Luke if you still hanker after it.

Don't worry about those who don't like Lucas. The names they've chosen themselves will be disliked by others too.

zipzap Sun 19-May-13 22:15:53

I like lucas. Also like lucca. Not so keen on luke.

Would have problems having a james if I had an oliver already - too close to Jamie Oliver! And whilst I like his cookery shows, not sure I am ready to inadvertently honour him by effectively using his names for both my dc... grin

BusyBee86 Mon 20-May-13 03:37:03

Wow didn't realise I had lots more replies. Thank you all. After much discussion we have decided to go with.....James smile

Twinklestarstwinklestars Mon 20-May-13 04:04:58

I have an Oliver and a Thomas and poss a Max (Maxwell) if dc3 is a boy in July.
