Baby no-name! Please help!

Hi all,

We are trying to pick a name for our new baby daughter and are rapidly running out of time.

We have narrowed it down to the list below but hubby and I do not agree.

He likes
Skye, Eden, Morgan, Amber and Ruby and I like Thea, Skye, Arabella and Beatrix.

The only crossover we have is Skye but it is not our favourite of each of our respective lists.

I may eventually post our list of 'dismissed' names but it is over 500 names long so it will not be today.

The criteria is that the name must be quite simple and easy to spell as we are fine with "that is unusual", but want to avoid "how do you spell that?"throughout their lives.

We already have an Oliver and a Leila and our surname starts with "A" so that migh be a consideration.

Any help would be appreciated.

We only have until 16th to name her so a rapid response would avoid "baby X" on the birth certificate.

HELP HELP HELP!!!

Skye
Eden
Morgan
Amber
Ruby
Thea
Skye
Arabella
Beatrix

I like Eden and Skye. If you both like Skye, just go for that?

harleyd Mon 13-May-13 11:22:22

skye or eden

Bowlersarm Mon 13-May-13 11:22:53

If Skye is on both your lists, then I would say that is your name sorted.

jamtoast12 Mon 13-May-13 11:35:33

Skye and arabella lovely! Don't like Morgan at all!!, what have you been calling her given she must be 5 weeks old!!!! shock

Decoy Mon 13-May-13 11:36:35

I was going to say the same - go for Skye!

Apparentlychilled Mon 13-May-13 11:38:35

skye, as it's the only one you both like!

spidermanspiderman Mon 13-May-13 11:47:01

She's just been called baby so far. Tried a few names but nothing stuck yet.
Have a load of names that we love but that don't seem to suit her.

Mellymog Mon 13-May-13 12:10:48

Isn't Eden a boys name? I know of one that i teach.

I always wanted the name Iona for a girl but am blessed with boys. That's still a Scottish island if you like Skye smile

nilbyname Mon 13-May-13 12:27:17

Do you like any of the names we have posted op?

I think everyone has a wobble about the name they choose. I like Skye. Also what about

Tabitha
Jura
Hestor

spidermanspiderman Mon 13-May-13 12:48:14

We've actually ruled out most of the names suggested. While they're all beautiful we know quite a few other kids of those names.
I did like Elodie but dh was not too keen.

I think maybe you are over thinking it! If you haven't agreed on one in 9 months of pregnancy and 5 weeks since she was born you may just have to pull one from a hat!

How about

Meg
Maggie
Amber
Amelie
Nancy
Robin
Prefer melodie to Elodie
Iris
Matilda
Clara

Seriously 5 weeks with no name you need to give her anything!

TallulahBetty Mon 13-May-13 13:13:14

If you both like Skye, go for that. Not fair one of you has to give in. Lovely name!

180209cooper Mon 13-May-13 13:25:54

Skye or Eden ar both lovely, good luck

spidermanspiderman Mon 13-May-13 13:33:21

Last 2 kind of picked their own names when born. Didn't know what we were having so all names seemed odd while pregnant.

Life is all about compromise so as long as he agrees with one of mine things will be fine.

wink

night1971 Mon 13-May-13 13:47:24

If you both really liked one of the names on your list, you would have chosen it by now. Probably easier to go for a totally "new" one.

Helen

Oliver, Leila and Helena - goes v well! Good luck and I am sure that it will be a lovely name whatever you choose.

If your surname ends in A, depending on where in the country you live, I wouldn't pick a forename that ends in 'A', too, or you could end up with that horrible inserted 'R' when people say her full name. People have already recommended loads of options, but if you have 'Skye' in common, why not go for that? Your and your dp's favourites have already been rejected, so why not Skye?

olgaga Mon 13-May-13 18:08:02

If you like Arabella, what about Bella? Shorter, easier to spell, kind of goes with the others - Oliver, Leila...Bella.

Of the choices you've listed I like Amber the best.

olgaga Mon 13-May-13 18:08:41

Or Freya!

spidermanspiderman Mon 13-May-13 19:08:53

I have always loved Freya but dh vetoed it early on. Same with Freida and Fritha.

We both love Harriet but it just isn't the right fit.

Skye is looking more and more likely.

JojoMags Mon 13-May-13 19:36:32

Does skye suit her? Can't help thinking if you really liked it you'd have settled on it before now! I love Harriet and you could shorten it to Hattie/Hatty or Hettie. There was a thread on here recently that included Anais. Just thought I'd mention it as its unusual and lovely! I like Beatrix on your list. Let us know what you decide smile

forevergreek Mon 13-May-13 19:44:36

I like amber and ruby from your list

sashh Wed 15-May-13 06:43:45

Skye - it's a place not a child
Eden - it's a place in the Bible, not a child
Morgan - isn't that a car?
Amber - semi precious stone, should it be a precious stone?
Ruby - precious stone - OK as a name
Thea - sounds like it's missing an ending

2 propper names and IMHO fit well with your other children's names

Arabella
Beatrix

What about three names that initialise to SKY?

Sophie Keira Yvonne. You and dh get to chose one name and depending on the ages of your other children let them have a choice too.

TobyLerone Wed 15-May-13 06:54:59

So it's ok to name a child after a stone, but not a place? confused

Wishfulmakeupping Wed 15-May-13 07:02:15

If you both like Skye then go for that, but of you're asking then the nicest ones from your list are Arabella and Thea IMO.
Few more suggestions
Ivy
Edith
Elsie
Victoria
Someone else said Primrose I think that is beautiful too
Good luck and as another poster said see what suits her smile

Wishfulmakeupping Wed 15-May-13 07:02:35

Nearly forgot- Mabel

MadBusLady Wed 15-May-13 15:32:10

Amber, Ruby or Thea

banterbus Wed 15-May-13 21:10:19

Marnie?

Loveleopardprint Wed 15-May-13 21:11:55

Ruby is too popular at the moment. There are three in one reception class at school.

Of your list I like Thea and Skye the best

sashh Thu 16-May-13 06:55:54

So it's ok to name a child after a stone, but not a place?

No it's OK to name a child after something precious.

TobyLerone Thu 16-May-13 06:59:04

But Skye and Eden are apparently beautiful places.

What an odd, arbitrary measure of what's ok as a name confused

MadBusLady Thu 16-May-13 11:10:06

Random.

I thought of another for my F list - Flavia.
