Not keen. I think Upon Thames i am afraid.

PurpleBlossom Wed 01-May-13 00:21:38

Kingston- trying too hard

Kingy- just awful!

snice Wed 01-May-13 00:22:25

its the name of a black labrador I know-sorry!

Fresh meat.

thornrose Wed 01-May-13 00:25:27

I know a Kingston, he's horrible which clouds my judgement terribly.

Kingy is awful.

AgnesBligg Wed 01-May-13 00:25:29

Are you having a larf? No, really no.

somuchtosortout Wed 01-May-13 00:36:34

Posh and Becks, the poorer version. SW London V Brooklyn.

But if you don't live in London then it's not that bad.

thornrose Wed 01-May-13 00:38:47

Could refer to Kingston Jamaica I suppose!

OldLadyKnowsNothing Wed 01-May-13 00:40:48

Yeah, I made the Jamaican connection. NN horrid, sorry.

twofalls Wed 01-May-13 00:47:40

Awful. Sorry

Fuckwittery Wed 01-May-13 00:48:33

Awful! I thought of Jamaica too

thermalsinapril Wed 01-May-13 01:02:33

Place name.

Still18atheart Wed 01-May-13 01:04:18

Kingston - ok just about wouldn't chose it personally

kingy - sounds too much like clingy

skyebluesapphire Wed 01-May-13 01:11:04

Kingston Town by UB40 springs to mind

Kingy? Sorry but no way.

Bunson Wed 01-May-13 01:15:30

Absolutely bloody awful. I would have no respect for someone with that name. Assuming you're white British. If you're from Caribbean origins then fine.

ParmaViolette Wed 01-May-13 01:25:00

Kingy?

What are you on?

I like Kingston on it's own though

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief Wed 01-May-13 01:30:12

Kingsley??

K8Middleton Wed 01-May-13 01:33:25

Kingy? To rhyme with 'thingy'? Erm, no.

I know a little boy with connections to Jamaica called this. It's his MN but its what is used everyday. For short I think they just use King. The other 2 DC have placename names too.

deleted203 Wed 01-May-13 02:44:03

Awful, unless you're Jamaican.

NN is just awful, whatever.

NatashaBee Wed 01-May-13 02:59:46

Kingston OK, Gwen Stefani has a son called Kingston. Kingy - just no.

ClaraDeLaNoche Wed 01-May-13 03:53:14

Kingy is mingie. Sorry.

noblegiraffe Wed 01-May-13 04:35:04

Kingy? Like Queenie? Just sounds daft.

Gingerbreadlatte Wed 01-May-13 04:39:29

Dreadful. Sorry.

Chubfuddler Wed 01-May-13 05:02:17

Kingy is dreadful. Sorry.

Kingston is fine unless you're white British. If you are, then I agree with Bunsen. If you're black or mixed race fine.

emmyloo2 Wed 01-May-13 05:11:20

Not my cup of tea at all, sorry.

Awful, horrific, common plus and other words that convey distaste.

glastocat Wed 01-May-13 05:47:35

Dreadful.

raisah Wed 01-May-13 07:13:11

No. Surname/place name as first name I am not fond of. Kingy sounds a bit pervy, some male pornstar name just awful. Sorry

elQuintoConyo Wed 01-May-13 07:18:21

Kingy's clingy thingy's mingy

Kingston sounds like a slave name. Sorry.

AThingInYourLife Wed 01-May-13 07:26:52

First reaction: Kingston - baaaad, Kingy - worst name ever

Awful

Phineyj Wed 01-May-13 12:48:37

Hull (northern version). Traffic jams (southern version).

Lakota Wed 01-May-13 12:51:36

Makes me think of the character from 'Fresh Meat'. Then Jamaica. It's not a terrible name, but the shortening doesn't really work. 'Kings' would be better.

givemeaclue Wed 01-May-13 13:00:38

Ha!

meditrina Wed 01-May-13 13:04:56

Place name: Jamaica, if that fits your ancestry, otherwise Humberside.

How about Kingsley instead?

givemeaclue Wed 01-May-13 13:20:01

I too think kingsley is a better option

lisaro Wed 01-May-13 13:25:20

This is a joke, right?

Kingy????? My thoughts - he'd get his head kicked in at school.

lottiegarbanzo Wed 01-May-13 13:31:35

Jamaica? Ontario? Or on Thames?

TheYamiOfYawn Wed 01-May-13 13:51:00

Kingston: not my cup of tea and I would probably judge a bit unless you were unspeakably cool, had Jamaican connections or it was a family name, but I wouldn't think it was ridiculous.

Kingy: ridiculous.

Purplebananas Wed 01-May-13 14:24:32

Reminds me of Gwen Stefani. Kingy is awful for a nn. Not a name I would choose but nothing wrong with Kingston.

chaya5738 Wed 01-May-13 14:27:10

Capital of Jamaica.

TobyLerone Wed 01-May-13 14:28:58

I like Kingston.

Kingy is utterly ridiculous!

bollockstoit Wed 01-May-13 14:34:23

If I knew someone who was called Kingy, I wouldn't be able to bring myself to say their name. Ridiculous.

bollockstoit Wed 01-May-13 14:57:02

I'm hoping the op hasn't already called their baby this, in which case it's an absolutely lovely, unique name blush

OkayHazel Wed 01-May-13 15:03:29

Kingsley is better... but not by much.

Dire.

vitaminC Wed 01-May-13 15:52:40

First reaction = must be Jamaican. Just awful otherwise.

And Kingy is waaaay too close to "Kinky" to be used as a name, IMO!

Iheartpasties Thu 02-May-13 09:09:31

Hi, ladies you have had me in fits of laughter. I love the honesty on here. It was a name I heard today at the park, a little toddler. I almost fell over. Sorry for being a judgemental cow but it really did make me wonder if I would be the only one with this reaction. FWIW a white mum calling to her white toddler.

MummytobeDC2 Thu 02-May-13 16:34:35

Terrible shockshockshock

TallulahBetty Thu 02-May-13 17:09:19

Kingston - love.

Kingy - WTAF?

Mellymog Thu 02-May-13 20:55:53

OMG!

Suzietwo Sat 04-May-13 09:46:35

Ridiculous

Kingston - what? That's a weird name.

Kingy - um Star Trek close to Cling on

Earthworms Sat 04-May-13 10:56:31

Upon Hull

usualsuspect Sat 04-May-13 10:56:35

I know 2 kingstons, both Jamaican.

This thread is making me feel uncomfortable.

Catlike Sat 04-May-13 11:29:55

Not keen on Kingston as it immediately makes me think of Kingston upon Thames rather than Kingston, Jamaica. And it just sounds a bit odd to call a person that. You may as well call them Surbiton or Morden.

merrymouse Sat 04-May-13 11:41:00

I think its difficult to give somebody a place name of somewhere in the UK, because its either going to sound pretentious if its somewhere 'posh', or it's just going to sound a bit odd if its somewhere ordinary, like Kingston.

I lived in Kingston upon Thames for many years and parts of it are lovely, but I would be thinking of the one way system and the Bentalls centre.

You could get away with it if it was very obviously alluding to Kingston Jamaica, but I think that would be hard if your child had a British accent.

Butterkistbutterkistrarara Sat 04-May-13 20:46:45

OP - were you anywhere near Glasgow today?

FoofFighter Sat 04-May-13 20:55:41

Kingston is a common name where I am from in the Midlands, even in white people.

Bit harsh that so many are calling it a ridiculous name sad

(Kingy however is confused )
