Gulp! Could be b/g, g/g or b/b!!

Still have 4 months to go, so have a little while...

We have a Matilda (nn Tilda).

So far our "four" are:

Hugo (first choice if one boy only)

Valentina (first choice if one girl only)

One's I have liked but rejected by DH include Patrick and Tessa/Pippa.

What do you think... Any other ideas?

NickNacks Tue 30-Apr-13 13:35:51

I don't have the same taste in names as you so I can't be any help with suggestions but wanted to say congrats on the twins. And even lovelier to not find out. My friend didn't either but knew hers were identical. smile

Catlike Tue 30-Apr-13 13:36:33

Congratulations by the way!

MortifiedAdams Tue 30-Apr-13 13:38:16

IF I had a Matilda, I would consider

B/B - George and Henry
G/G - Anna and Juliet

B/G - Anna/George or Juliet/Henry

JojoMags Tue 30-Apr-13 13:48:54

not frank! sorry to be so frank but is terrible! Love Hugo

Catlike Tue 30-Apr-13 13:52:06

Sorry OP, just realised I didn't comment on your choices before offering you more suggestions! Like Hugo, LOVE Valentina, don't like Frank and not really a fan of Grace.

legallyblond Tue 30-Apr-13 13:55:52

I'm not 100% on Frank either. It's my grandfather's name, and I can see it being cool and as Frankie for a baby... I'm just sort of letting if sit there and seeing what I think!

Artichook Tue 30-Apr-13 13:55:59

Matilda is lovely and if I were her sister called Grace then I'd be jealous. What about Beatrice, Tabitha or Dorothea?

I like your boys' names.

Birdies Tue 30-Apr-13 14:11:00

Hugo and Valentina sound lovely together!

Also not keen on Frank and Grace very popular now, but quite nice

TheCraicDealer Tue 30-Apr-13 14:14:29

My DSis' fella is called Francis- I think it's a lovely name! Not so keen on Frank though. Love Valentina. Claudia is another lovely name that would go with Hugo.

legallyblond Tue 30-Apr-13 14:24:41

Claudia is one of my faves but meanings are important to me so I can't do it.... Means lame!

MaryRobinson Tue 30-Apr-13 14:30:53

This time 4 years ago I was in your situation. We decide to just have long lists and to wait and see on the day. This seemed to tAke the pressure off and by the day before we had one firm girls name. When we had two girls the two 'right' names were obvious (and we had pre- agreed the two GM as middle names)

edam Tue 30-Apr-13 14:38:06

Congratulations! How exciting not to know whether they are B/G or BB or GG...

Hugo and Grace are nice. I don't see why a Grace should feel second-best because her sister is Matilda, really don't understand that at all.

How about Lydia for a second female twin? George for a second boy?

Allalonenow Belgium Tue 30-Apr-13 14:54:58

Love Hugo and Valentina, Grace is pretty but very popular ATM, but I'm not keen on Frank at all.

flossieflower Tue 30-Apr-13 15:04:28

What makes you so sure they are non identical? I personally know five sets of twins who are monozygotic but had separate placentas (including my own) and I even know of a set of IVF monozygotic twins so don't make assumptions about the zygosity until they arrive!

legallyblond Tue 30-Apr-13 15:15:47

Agree, there is a chance they're identical, but I've been told its slim as they're di everything - 2 sacs (with thick membrane between) and two placentas. But yes, there's a chance the division happened while still way up in the tube and so they could be ID! Part of the surprise!

Any alternatives to Frank are welcome. I like Bryn, but DH doesn't and we're not Welsh! But that sort of thing....

legallyblond Tue 30-Apr-13 15:16:32

I'm 20 weeks so seen them 3 times now!!!

Artichook Tue 30-Apr-13 15:19:36

Alternatives to Frank:
Freddie (Wilfred or Frederick)

legallyblond Tue 30-Apr-13 15:29:23

Artichook - so along the right lines!!! But, Frederick and Wilfred rejected by DH (I adore Fred in particular); Stanley great but the name of our next door neighbour and DD's best friend (he's exactly the same age as her!) and Arthur rejected by me... Not sure why but I just don't like it! But do nearly!!!

edam Tue 30-Apr-13 15:41:26

I had wondered how you knew they were non-ID - even more exciting now, so many possibilities - BG/non-ID GG/non-ID BB/ID BB/ID GG...

How about Archie? Or Thomas? (Trying to think of names along the lines of Fred...)

Littlecherublegs Tue 30-Apr-13 17:23:09

I like Hugo and Grace; dislike Frank and Valentina.

How about:

fussychica England Tue 30-Apr-13 17:43:07

Congrats - how exciting!

Please not Frank, Wilf, Arthur, Stan or other old man up the pub names (sorry my pet hate at the moment, though I appreciate I'm in the minority). I like your other choices. Francis ok.

Luca or Luke

MummyBurrows Tue 30-Apr-13 18:20:39

Out of the names you've listed,I don't like Frank and not keen on Valentina although it is a lovely and rarely heard.

I think Hugo and Grace is a lovely combo if you have one of each but would reconsider the other 2 names personally.

Its its any help a friend of mine has 2 sets of twins. They are called Max,Amelia,Jack and Madeline...Popular names I grant you but they make a lovely sibset smile

Hugo and Grace.

With Patrick and Juliet or Lydia as others.

Not loving Frank, to be frank.

JennyMackerz Tue 30-Apr-13 18:59:27

I love Patrick and Hugo
Francis is ok but I wouldn't choose it.

Your girls' names aren't msaa, but with Patrick I agree with a pp Anna is beautiful. Patrick and Anna, and with Hugo, I like Juliet.

Sorry just not keen on Tessa at all, and Pippa is ok but a bit silly sounding if that is a description that makes sense. And tilda? no. Prefer Madeleine to Matilda. Valentina is pretty but it's long and I think you'd end up with a 'Val' which lacks the glamour that Valentina does have. What about Vivien? Juliet and Vivien do anything for you?

Catlike Tue 30-Apr-13 19:11:26

Valentina is pretty but it's long and I think you'd end up with a 'Val' which lacks the glamour that Valentina does have. What about Vivien? Juliet and Vivien do anything for you?

But Vivien would end up being Viv and Juliet might end up being Jools...

Mandy21 Tue 30-Apr-13 19:27:25

Just one thing to bear in mind - you need to be happy with the order too - by that I mean if you have 2 girls or 2 boys it doesn't really matter, but the choice of names if its boy then girl might be slightly different than if you have girl then boy (if that makes sense). I wanted Daniel for a boy but we thought he'd probably get shortened to Dan so if he was 1st, it would have been "Dan and X" which is quite difficult not to run together so it becomes "Danand X". Sorry I'm not explaining myself very well but hope you get my point. Some combinations work well if they are 'X and Y', not quite so well if they are 'Y and X'.

You also have to think about the length of the combination - Hugo & Valentina is OK but I think if you going for Valentina, you probably shouldn't go for anything much longer than Hugo. They'll mostly be referred to as a pair, certainly to start with, so 2 long names is probably too much of a mouthful.

Congratulations smile.

Leafmould Tue 30-Apr-13 21:08:43

Catlike. I love all your girls suggestions

legallyblond Tue 30-Apr-13 21:59:44

Jennymackerz we already have a Matilda called Tilda!!! We love it!

I do agree with some of the Frank comments, but still can't think of an alternative! And yes, Valentina might be Val... But that's but as bad as some shortenings (and things ALWAYS get shortened) plus we would use Vally.

I do like Frank. Also like Fred and Bryn (but vetoed) and like Ivo... But that's too many "o"s with Hugo!

What are thoughts on Connor? Is it too Irish (we're just plain English...!)

thegreylady Tue 30-Apr-13 22:19:09

My grandson is a lovely Frank. For him it is a diminutive of Francis though he was Frankie when he was tiny. He is nine now and Frank is perfect.

edam Tue 30-Apr-13 22:38:03

ooh I do love Ivo - thanks to my Georgette Heyer addiction as a teenager. But agree it might be a bit much to have twins called Ivo and Hugo. Sadly!

legallyblond Tue 30-Apr-13 22:40:19

I know edam... It's also a family name but it's too much I fear!

edam Tue 30-Apr-13 22:52:10

Ditch Hugo and keep Ivo! grin

I like Hugo and Valentino, with that in mind here are some suggestions...

Vijac Tue 30-Apr-13 23:15:43

I'm with all alone now.

Allalonenow Belgium Tue 30-Apr-13 23:27:36

No no, don't go for Ivo instead of Hugo, every Serbian bandit I have ever met was called Ivo.

MyNameIsSuz Wed 01-May-13 02:03:30

I have a Franklin and love Hugo. Others on our list were Vincent, tobias, Ralph, Victor, Theodore.

The girl names are both lovely but Grace is ever so popular, much more so than your other three. What about Violet or Elodie?

edam Wed 01-May-13 22:55:13

I hadn't realised it was a common name in Serbia but even if it is, how many people in England will make that link?

I don;t think we have similar taste in names, but my imaginary twins would be:

g/g - Indie-Rose & Celeste Isabelle
b/b - Cass Alexander & Arlo Thomas
b/g - Indie-Rose & Cass Alexander

legallyblond Thu 02-May-13 11:11:10

I know Grace is v popular, but we both love it...

forevergreek Thu 02-May-13 15:10:17

What about franklin as either first or middle name as frank is a family name?

I like Hugo and valentina, not keen on grace/ frank though

What about:

forevergreek Thu 02-May-13 15:13:34

And if Hugo and like ivo, what about:

Hugo and Ivan
Hugo and Ethan

mysteryfairy Sat 04-May-13 12:28:17

When my sister was expecting twins she had a names for b/g and those names were not repeated in her g/g and b/b combos. She didn't like the thought that if she did have two children of the same sex then one of them would have a name that was only her second favourite and wouldn't have made it into the b/g combo.

Realise that would require you to come up with more names but does get round the issue of having names that don't go together.

mikkii Sat 04-May-13 12:47:11

I love Valentina, but that is probably because we called DS Valentino (Tino for short, although DD2 calls him Toe which he thinks is cute.

DD2 has Amelia as middle name, after Luisa (Spanish/Italian) but this is quite popular. I demanded the (not agreed upon) middle name while still open from a C section (bit unfair hahaha) so he couldn't argue!

Littlecherublegs - thanks DD1's middle name is Faith, Gabriela to start. DH picked this from a short list of 3 (Faith, Maria and Delilah) after being kicked out of theatre after CS while they were still sorting me out. I also thought this entitled me to my choice for DD2 (see above)

If DD2 had been a boy, it would have been Francisco, but Frankie for short.

My mum suggested Sarah for DD2, it's one of my middle names, but deadly boring and really doesn't go with surname. How would she have felt growing up as Sarah compared to Valentino and Gabriela?

My advice would be to find names you both like, including a shortened pet name, consider compromising for middle names.

Congratulations on the twins, good luck with the names.

legallyblond Tue 07-May-13 10:35:56

After a weekend of bank holiday sun, I think we're agreed on our names! Thanks for all the comments!!! X x

What did you decide?

legallyblond Wed 08-May-13 07:03:34

Hugo, James, Valentina, Grace!

Lovely smile

Britchic Wed 08-May-13 12:38:11
