My money's on Elizabeth. Or Caroline.

Laquila Wed 24-Apr-13 22:13:54

Isabella or Alexander

MadameJosephine Wed 24-Apr-13 22:15:20

I think Elizabeth too or George for a boy

BreconBeBuggered Italy Wed 24-Apr-13 22:18:11

Arthur. Or Ellie-Mae if it's a girl.

(If there was a sweepstake, Ellie-Mae would be on my bastarding bit of paper, even for a boy, okay?)

Maryz Cote D'Ivoire Wed 24-Apr-13 22:18:43

I had a suggestion.

I must go and find it. iirc there were a lot of names in it grin

PuggyMum Wed 24-Apr-13 22:19:34

I'm going with Alexander for a boy because that's the name me and DH have chosen for our baby... Due in October after them. People will think we've gone all royalist!!

Alexandra or Richard

Elizabeth Catherine Diana

Michael Phillip William

nancy75 Wed 24-Apr-13 22:20:17

If it's a girl I think Alice or Alexandra. May be Alexander or George for a boy

AuntieStella Wed 24-Apr-13 22:22:53

Long thread about this already.

Might it be better to keep to just the one thread - people might want to post on multiple threads, but perhaps not and then it just gets a bit wild.

nagynolonger Wed 24-Apr-13 22:23:29

He or she will have 4 or 5 names. For a girl Elizabeth is bound to be one of them. Maybe Victoria. Don't know what the other granny is called but that's a possibility too.

For a boy. Henry or Richard. Philip would be nice .....we've never had a King Philip.

AuntieStella Wed 24-Apr-13 22:26:22
greenteawithlemon Wed 24-Apr-13 22:27:17

Oops blush

Maryz Cote D'Ivoire Wed 24-Apr-13 22:27:57

It must have been in chat.

I think it was Elizabeth Victoria Diana Catherine

For a boy, George Arthur Andrew Charles (after the university)

greenteawithlemon Wed 24-Apr-13 22:28:33

That thread is nearly three years old...

Maryz Cote D'Ivoire Wed 24-Apr-13 22:28:54

Oops, sorry, I missed that.

DuelingFanjo Wed 24-Apr-13 22:30:21

Oh sorry Maryz, I was addressing that at AuntieStella!

SoupDragon Thu 25-Apr-13 07:12:15

With elizabeth and Diana and Victoria shoved in

I also think these names will be in there but not first names.

SoupDragon Thu 25-Apr-13 07:13:12

I'm going to deliberately post on this thread to irritate the thread police wink

I think Alexandra, with middle names of Elizabeth, Victoria and Aurelia. Don't know why Aurelia though!

Boy would be Alexander, with James, Phillip and Henry as middle names.

Wishfulmakeupping Thu 25-Apr-13 07:28:35

Girl Frances Elizabeth
Boy George William

Wishfulmakeupping Thu 25-Apr-13 07:29:33

Put a boys name in but it's going to be a girl for sure!

gazzalw Thu 25-Apr-13 07:40:18

Caroline, Mary, Alexandra or Elisabeth for a girl (or most likely)

Edward, George, Charles or Henry for a boy (or a combination)

They won't go for Richard I don't think because of the possibly unjust but still negative associations with Richard III.

Do we know what the middle names in the Middleton family are - they might get a look-in too as long as they are traditional enough...

DonDrapersAltrEgoBigglesDraper Thu 25-Apr-13 08:16:48

I definitely think Elizabeth will not be used as a first name if it's a girl.

This child will be a monarch (regardless of gender), and I think they will absolutely want to give it a distinguishing feature from its great-grandmother, whose reign happened so recently. Huge shoes to fill, and you'd want to go a little out of your way to not invite comparisons since they're both women (again, assuming a girl).

Likewise, Victoria, really. Of course, monarchs don't always use their actual name once they become king/queen...

I'd like to think they will think outside the box a litle bit, so Adelaide or something along those lines. Having said that, Kate and Wills are notoriously well-behaved, toe-the-party-line types, so it's unlikely to be anything too radical.

Alfred or matilda.

I think it will be harder for them to pick a boys name as they will not want to name it after Williams brother Henry, or Charles' brother Andrew or Edward.

But I think they will look further back in the family tree so Alfred or maybe Arthur.

CecyHall France Thu 25-Apr-13 08:24:56

I think Charlotte or George.

ratbagcatbag Thu 25-Apr-13 08:28:00

I'm thinking traditional like everyone else but would like it if they put Diana in it too smile

Wishfulmakeupping Thu 25-Apr-13 08:45:34

Yes it would lovely if they used Diana somewhere in the name smile

DolomitesDonkey Thu 25-Apr-13 08:48:42

Chardonnaigh. It's yooneek.

notwellboy Thu 25-Apr-13 08:59:06

Albert or George
Elizabeth,Victoria Charlotte,Alice
I think a lot off suitable boys names Edward, James Henry are already in use within royal family so limits choice a little bit .

KittenofDoom Thu 25-Apr-13 10:41:34

I don't think names like Richard are automatically ruled out because of negative associations. Not when the Queen named her eldest son Charles! smile

As regards monarchs not using their first name as regnal name, that's the exception rather than the rule. I can only think of Edward VII and George VI (both Alberts), and Victoria. Edward did not wish to use his father's name, and George took his father's name for continuity after the abdication crisis. Victoria's first name was Alexandrina but that was at the insistence of the Prince Regent (who seems to have been an utter nightmare over the naming of his niece), and she preferred to use her second name.

I think they might go for something Welsh in there somewhere - not sure what though.

...or maybe Dodie - that would put the cat amongst the pigeons!

Still18atheart Thu 25-Apr-13 11:07:12

Not sure about middle names but first names.

Agree with Soontobe with there possibly something Welsh in there too

GibberTheMonkey Thu 25-Apr-13 11:22:25

I think they'll go royal but more unusual so
Antigone or Leopold

QueLinda Thu 25-Apr-13 11:31:32

Middle names Elizabeth Caroline Diana after the mums / grandma.

First name I think they seem the 'safe' types so maybe Alexandria.

Rosesforrosie Thu 25-Apr-13 11:35:04

Victoria Frances Elizabeth

George Albert Charles Andrew

MrsGeologist Thu 25-Apr-13 11:37:03

FreedomOfTheTess Thu 25-Apr-13 11:40:15

Given that monarchs don't have to use their given name when they ascend to the throne (I believe Charles is planning on being George VII), I'd like them be a bit more creative in the first name spot, as the child will have plenty of normal middle names which they can use as their monarch name.

I'd love to see a Prince Augustine or Princess Georgiana.

It won't happen though, I know that.

NB: I'm due in mid-July, like Kate is said to be, and I'm hoping I have mine first. That way, even if they use Mary (the name we're planning on), at least we'll have got there first! wink

Hullygully Thu 25-Apr-13 11:40:18

Charlotte Elizabeth-Mae

Kelsey. For a boy or a girl. grin

Or La-A.

Corygal Thu 25-Apr-13 11:45:46

Not sure Carole will feature.

miemohrs Thu 25-Apr-13 11:48:55

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Girl - Alice Sophie Rose Caroline Elizabeth (and possibly Phillipa ?)
Boy - Edward William Charles Philip Henry (and what's Kate's Dad's name ?)

(they usually have plenty and include everyone - but something more individual but still traditional as first name !)

I don't think they'll include Charlotte in the mix after watching the very sad story of Princess Charlotte's life told by Lucy Thingy the other day on TV.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Thu 25-Apr-13 12:11:30

Adelaide perhaps with Caroline and definitely an Elizabeth in there somewhere.

James (nn Jamie) Henry Arthur Charles

thermalsinapril Thu 25-Apr-13 12:19:28

Alexandra Elizabeth Diana

Alfred Henry Charles

ThenWeTakeBerlin Thu 25-Apr-13 12:28:18

Kate's birth name is Catherine Elizabeth.
Her dad is Michael Francis, mum is Carole Elizabeth, Pippa is Phillipa Charlotte and brother is James William.

Any of these names could feature.

Just wiki'd, I'm supposed to be working smile

GaryBuseysTeeth Thu 25-Apr-13 12:39:35

Logic being, I'm due in August & they're our two front runners.
Although a little part of me wishes for Ickle Princess Mackenzie-Mae.

VivaLeBeaver Thu 25-Apr-13 12:44:38

Is it true that Charles won't be King Charles when he becomes King, that he's going to pick himeself another name to be King Somethingelse?

FreedomOfTheTess Thu 25-Apr-13 12:57:46

Don't be surprised if Kate's family aren't honoured at all. Traditionally, names from the "non Royal" side of the family don't feature, neither William nor Harry's names feature Diana's father's name (Edward John) at all.

Harry's first middle name is Charles, which is Diana's brother's name, but that was obviously after Prince Charles and not Diana's brother.

SconeRhymesWithGone Thu 25-Apr-13 13:17:02

Is it true that Charles won't be King Charles when he becomes King, that he's going to pick himeself another name to be King Somethingelse?
There were rumors that he had discussed the possibility privately, but his office has denied that he did.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Thu 25-Apr-13 14:03:47

Those are lovely names GaryBuseysTeeth.

I had heard that too about Charles picking the name George. I thought it was because it would give pleasure to his mother, admittedly would be odd referring to him as King George when all along he's been Prince Charles.

fussychica England Thu 25-Apr-13 14:23:40

Alexandra Diana Elizabeth

James Charles Louis (for Mountbatten)

gazzalw Thu 25-Apr-13 14:52:09

ThenWeTakeBerlin, well researched! Some of those names feature in the Royal Family too so probably increased likelihood that they could be picked. Wasn't Diana's middle name Frances or have I made that up?

I think that although they both are conformists, they do their own thing too (as long as it doesn't rock the boat) so wouldn't be surprised if they don't sneak in some Middleton family names!

Sorry to say it but Diana just isn't a regal name IMHO!

FreedomOfTheTess Thu 25-Apr-13 16:27:09

Diana isn't regal, and that's why however much some people want to see it, it won't feature as a first name.

Fine as a middle name, but if this first born is a girl, she won't be Diana. Queen Diana doesn't work.

Gazza - no you didn't make it up, her middle name was Frances.

Bearandcub Thu 25-Apr-13 16:38:26

I hope it's Queenie for a girl and Kingsley for a boy.

Queen Queenie
King Kingsley

Bue Thu 25-Apr-13 16:52:03

Elizabeth is WAY too much pressure. I think that will be a middle name along with Diana and maybe Caroline (for Carole).

I think Alice, Alexandra or possible Mary for a girl.
George or Arthur for a boy.

Eleanor or Alice for a girl smile

Not sure about boys confused I thought George but possibly not if Charles is planning to use it hmm

I think they're having a girl though grin

CecyHall France Thu 25-Apr-13 17:24:13

I've changed my mind, I want bearandcub's suggestion now

I think girl, and Victoria or Elizabeth. Though I keep thinking Cassandra - I have no idea why.

I love bearandcubs suggestions!

But my money is on Alice

KittenofDoom Thu 25-Apr-13 19:00:23

Why on earth would Charles think that calling himself George would please his mother? She named him Charles, didn't she?! I can't see any reason why he would choose not to reign as Charles. The few monarchs who have not used their first names as regnal names had specific reasons.

I don't think the Cambridge baby will have more than four names. The Queen herself only has three. Four seems to be usual in the family, although Edward VIII had seven forenames. That was an exception: they included the four patron saints of the UK. Don't know whose idea that was!

I wouldn't rule out Charlotte, it ticks a lot of boxes. We would have had a Queen Charlotte had she not died young, and we have had a Queen Consort named Charlotte. It would honour Charles and, in a roundabout way, the maternal grandma, although Caroline would be a closer match for Carole and I wouldn't be surprised to see that one either.

gazzalw Thu 25-Apr-13 19:36:01

Have you got Cassandra's soothsaying abilities, MimsyBorogroves!????

SconeRhymesWithGone Thu 25-Apr-13 21:16:48

I heard that the George thing was supposed to be to please his grandmother (Queen Mum), not his mother. He would be honoring her husband George VI.

I think Charlotte stands a very good chance if it is a girl.

MsJupiterJones Thu 25-Apr-13 22:04:53

Love Frances but could we have a British Queen called France(s)?!

So I'll plump for Mary Frances Elizabeth.

I agree Charlotte or Caroline are really strong contenders. I think Albert will feature for a boy, for the Queen as it was her father's name.

KittenofDoom Thu 25-Apr-13 22:11:56

Princess Frances sounds a bit comical.

MimiSunshine Thu 25-Apr-13 22:14:22

I think theyll go for safe traditional names but with what will proclaimed to be an affectionately known as... in order to keep it youthful.
Mary Elizabeth as Marielle / Marelle (and is a variation if Mary) but I can't seen Diana being in there, just invites too much comment.

James Albert with Jamie

KittenofDoom Thu 25-Apr-13 22:14:51

Albert, hmmm, dunno. It's one of Prince Andrew's names, iirc. I think Philip is a certainty to feature if it's a boy. (He will have an Aunt Philippa too.)

ThePathanKhansAmnesiac Thu 25-Apr-13 22:20:58

FairPhyllis Thu 25-Apr-13 22:36:14

Girls names: Charlotte, Caroline, Alexandra, Margaret, Helena, Mary or Alice as a first name. My money is on Caroline to pop up somewhere to honour both Prince Charles and Carole Middleton.

Elizabeth and Diana will def. feature as middle names.

Boys: George, Richard, Michael ... er.

Philip and Charles as middle names. John will NOT feature as it is not a lucky royal name.

KittenofDoom Thu 25-Apr-13 22:43:49

It would be weird to have a King Arthur or a King Alfred though. He couldn't be "the Second" because neither Arthur (if he existed) nor Alfred was King of the whole of England.

ProphetOfDoom Thu 25-Apr-13 23:05:54

Fallenangle Thu 25-Apr-13 23:13:45

Boy or girl, surely it will be called Anyfucker (or Shirley).

KittenofDoom Thu 25-Apr-13 23:20:58

SchmaltzingMatilda If you mean Arthur of Brittany, he was Henry II's grandson, not his son.

FreedomOfTheTess Fri 26-Apr-13 12:34:24

I don't think they'd use James, as that's Edward's son's name, and he's still quite young.

I may be wrong though.

Stokey Fri 26-Apr-13 12:51:36

I hope they go back a bit further.
Cecily or Blanche for a girl, Edmund or Arthur for a boy.

KittenofDoom Fri 26-Apr-13 12:52:51

Don't think it matters, especially if they used different versions within the family. James or Jamie or Jimmy etc.

siluria Fri 26-Apr-13 13:54:06

Please not Alice as that will be my DD's name, due in August.

On those grounds alone, I bet it will be Alice ...

Girl - Mary or Alice, middle names Elizabeth Diana

Boy - George or Arthur, middle names Henry James (after their brothers)

Sorry Siluria x-posts!

KittenofDoom Sun 28-Apr-13 00:49:04

Oh, absolutely. It would be weird now though!

mathanxiety Sun 28-Apr-13 01:54:04

I'm leaning towards Caroline, Adelaide, Mary or Alexandra. Or a combination of several of those four, maybe with Diana in place of Mary. I also think Frances has a chance - it was Diana's middle name.

I can see them using Michael somewhere in a boy's name. And Philip and Louis and maybe Arthur. I also fancy the chances of Albert and Frederick (two names of George VI). Maybe George.

LazyMonkeyButler Thu 13-Jun-13 00:33:49

I like Caroline, Alexandria, Georgiana or Frances as a first name with the obvious Elizabeth Diana Victoria middle names.

If I had to put money on the name though, I would go for Alice. Or maybe Louisa? Didn't Queen Victoria have a daughter Louisa? Actually no, that's probably too close to Prince Edward's daughter Louise.
