Spencer. Archie isn't a proper name (sniffy hoiky judgy pants).

And Spencer Tracey was way cool.

Roseformeplease Wed 24-Apr-13 18:59:16

Not Spencer, reminds me of Frank Spencer (Ooh, Betty). Like Archie.

proudmummy10 Wed 24-Apr-13 18:59:29

I'm liking Archie, i think it goes well with Jacob.

archie

BlastAndDalmatians Wed 24-Apr-13 19:05:33

I didn't like Archie until I knew one and he's just the most adorable little fella ever and totally suits his name.
Spencer is nice too.

Coconutty Wed 24-Apr-13 19:06:39

Definitely not Spencer!

Coconutty Wed 24-Apr-13 19:06:59

What if he has a mate at school called Mark?

CPtart Wed 24-Apr-13 19:20:16

My godson is Spencer (12). It's grown on me.
Dislike Archie almost as much as all the other incomplete ie ending names such as Alfie, Charlie, Freddie. Jacob is lovely.

Ham69 Wed 24-Apr-13 20:28:16

Spencer, no contest.

Archie

shelli135 Wed 24-Apr-13 20:32:41

My worry with archie is that whenhe gets to school, there may be 4 other archie in his class. Although I do love it, spencer is more unique. Marks and spencer yes we've had that one, it did put me of the name. Spencer is quite geeky vintage, Archie is more cute baby name...... Completely stumped. Both names don't really go together either so couldn't have Archie Spencer, or Spencer Archie.... Hhmmm may just have to wait and see what he looks like. smile

LynetteScavo Wed 24-Apr-13 20:33:23

Spencer, but PC Plum is my favorite.

ouryve Wed 24-Apr-13 20:34:06

You've been watching too much Balamory.

idiot55 Wed 24-Apr-13 20:34:59

spencer, absolutly love it

shelli135 Wed 24-Apr-13 20:43:50

We don't watch balamory.... Are they both characters?blush

Shiraztastic Wed 24-Apr-13 20:47:08

Archie. Spencer reminds me of that 'my own spencer bear' book, or the character from eastern doers. Mind you I'm not a big fan of Archie either, that has lots of associations, inc Balamory.

I don't think either goes with Jacob, sorry.

wizzler Wed 24-Apr-13 20:48:03

Archie. Definitely Archie. I don't think it is as popular as it was 2or 3 years ago

CharlieBoo Wed 24-Apr-13 21:37:56

Archie... Spencer is erm... Dare I say it???

Thank goodness; I thought this was a "which Balamory character would you shag if you absolutely had to?" thread.

notso Wed 24-Apr-13 21:48:54

Archie in answer to both OP and Tolliver grin

kneedeepindaisies Wed 24-Apr-13 21:49:12

Is there any Balamory characters you would shag? confused

If I had to choose a name I would say Archie because I think Spencer sounds a bit wet.

greenteawithlemon Wed 24-Apr-13 21:50:51

Neither. Sorry.

kneedeepindaisies -- there's the tricky aspect, because I do rather fancy Miles Jupp in anything else/as himself, but not as Archie by any stretch of the imagination.

Sorry, OP, for derailing your thread. They are both fine names; maybe try referring to the baby as "Archie" for a week and then as "Spencer" for a week and see which sounds right?

aoife24 Wed 24-Apr-13 22:02:04

Archie is such a good name and willl stand the test of time too, Archibald is perhaps a step too far.

shelli135 Wed 24-Apr-13 22:09:10

Lol thank you for your advice and opinions, I have never seen balamory. I think Archie is winning at the moment

kneedeepindaisies Wed 24-Apr-13 22:44:25

Tolliver- As long as no one says Edie Mcredie I think it will all be ok.

Did you know she was one of the young women capering about naked outside in The Wicker Man ?

kneedeepindaisies Wed 24-Apr-13 22:55:56

Naked Edie Mcredie!

Balamory will never be the same again. grin

notwellboy Thu 25-Apr-13 09:01:07

Don't really like either sorry but at a push Archie.

Laquila Thu 25-Apr-13 11:41:04

Love Spencer - it's on my list but I don't think my husband's convinced.

I like Archie but I have a definite preference for giving a child a "full" name that can then be shortened, but am not so keen on Archibald. Archer?

dontblameme Thu 25-Apr-13 19:42:11

I think they both go with Jacob well smile Lots of little Archies around at the moment. My friend just had a Spencer and half of me thinks cool, half thinks hmmmm. It will depend on his character.

My nephew is called Archie, I shorted it to arch all the time when I speak to him or call for him, it's really odd people don't like names because "they aren't proper"

I do prefer archie to. There's lots of older generation men called Archie so it seems to be standing the test of time.smile

jellybeans Fri 26-Apr-13 17:59:50

Out the two I prefer Spencer as there are so many Archies. There are 4 at my DS nursery, it's very confusing. I also heard one older boy gets called Archibald even though that is not his BC name.

MummyBurrows Fri 26-Apr-13 18:47:05

I'd pick Spencer, just because its not as popular as Archie! Archie's seem to be everywhere at the moment...

But yes they are both Balamory characters. Archie is the inventor who lives in a pink house and wears a kilt and pink jumper and Spencer is a painter and lives in an orange house...youtube should enlighten you and probably put you off both names
