Which ones would you pick? And, if you're feeling particularly generous, why?

Are there any others you could suggest based on my likes above?

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE Fri 19-Apr-13 19:49:51

Love Lyra. Mostly due to the books.

Love all the boys names.

SurreyWithAFringeOnTop Fri 19-Apr-13 19:51:30

For girls, I would pick Viola or Lyra, both very pretty and quite unusual. Jemima and Penelope are a bit prim for me.

For boys, George or Arthur. Fab names. Other two are a bit 'wet'.

Witchesbrewandbiscuits Fri 19-Apr-13 19:53:00

absolutely love jemima! george for boy smile

Bowlersarm Fri 19-Apr-13 19:55:36

There is nothing wrong with any of them! You either like them or you don't but I can't see a criticism if any would be appropriate. I'm not a fan of Penelope or George, but other people would like them.

Pick which one you like.

Yama Fri 19-Apr-13 19:57:45

I love Lyra and George and Benjamin.

The others are not for me. The only one I dislike is Viola.

Beamur Fri 19-Apr-13 19:59:03

Not a fan of Lyra or Jemima - but love Penelope (nn Penny) also like Voila. I think Penny is a sweet name and works at all ages, Viola or Violet is a classy name, pretty but robust.
Like all your boys names except Robin, but like Rob as a diminutive.
I like the suggestion Edith as well.

thermalsinapril Fri 19-Apr-13 20:00:09

Favourite two from each list would be Viola, Penelope, George, Arthur.

CognitiveOverload Fri 19-Apr-13 20:08:32

Lyra. Feminine but strong. Robin...just like it

everlong Fri 19-Apr-13 20:09:26

Jemma and Arthur.

MummyBurrows Fri 19-Apr-13 20:45:00

I'd pick Penelope because I love the nn Penny and I'd pick Benjamin because its the name I've got picked out if my bump turns out to be a boy grin xx

MortifiedAdams Fri 19-Apr-13 20:48:36

Jemima and George are my favourites and ones I would consider using myself.

I really dislike Robin for a boy but love Robyn for a girl.

Also suggesting Hermione and Fergus.

Love Robin. Like Lyra best from the girls'. Don't like Viola at all, sorry.

Viola and Robin are my favourites smile

mrspaddy Fri 19-Apr-13 20:53:45

Also like Robin, love Penny (though you might not want to shorten). George is classic. Very sweet for a little boy. I like Jemima too. Ben or Bejamin are nice.

Would suggest Elsie for a girl. Really love the above suggestion Henry. Gorgeous name too.

Love Penelope, Lyra, jemima, would use Violet nt Viola. Like George and Arthur, not keen on others.

TenthMuse Fri 19-Apr-13 21:54:19

They are all fine. Favourites are Viola - very classy - and either Arthur or Robin (both lovely but quite different in style IMO)

DessieLou Sat 20-Apr-13 01:11:12

Love all your girls names, especially Penelope/Penny. Unfortunately it wouldn't work with our surname so it's off our list.
Of your boys list the only one I like is George. I'm not keen on Benjamin & Arthur and really dislike Robin for a boy. If I heard the name I would presume it was in reference to a girl (Robyn) which is much nicer!

mathanxiety Sat 20-Apr-13 06:27:44

Jemima - nice
Penelope - love
Viola - ok, pronunciation would become an issue
Lyra - love

Suggest - Cleo

George - nice
Arthur - ok
Benjamin - love
Robin - love

StormyBrid Sat 20-Apr-13 06:48:34

I'd go for Penelope because it's my mum's name. Not Lyra because I didn't like those books. Viola okay because Shakespeare but I don't actually like the sound of it much. Not Jemima because it reminds me of the bit of Jurassic Park where the rex bursts through the trees and eats a gallimimus, and I used to have nightmares about that scene.

George and Arthur seem to be far too popular these days so I'd not go for either of those. And also there's an Arthur in EastEnders at the moment and one of my criteria when choosing a name recently was "Can't be the name of an existing Ender". Robin sounds like a girl's name to me. Benjamin's good though, sounds nice, don't know how popular it is but I don't come across many of them.

I love Penelope because I think of Penelope Cruz. Viola is pretty too.

I like George and Benjamin.

Weenorrie2 Sat 20-Apr-13 07:18:49

Jemima ( puddle duck )
Penelope ( pitstop)
Viola ( stringed intstument)
Lyra (stars)
Benjamin (bunny)
Robin (redbreast)

Your list is very similar to ours. We also have Edith, Miranda, Sebastián, Albert which are on similar veins

No idea how that happened...confused

OrangeFootedScrubfowl Sat 20-Apr-13 09:41:47

George Arthur and Benjamin are all quite a bit more popular than Robin if that matters to you either way?

People will often pronounce Viola wrong, if that matters to you!

I like them all. Nice names.

Hassled Sat 20-Apr-13 09:42:45

Viola and Arthur. Lovely names.

Viviennemary Sat 20-Apr-13 09:47:26

Jemima - not keen
Penelope - yes
Viola - nice
Lyra- don't like

George - Ok
Arthur - Not keen
Benjamin - OK
Robin - don't like at all

Other names Philip, Violet, Iris.

MrsJohnDeere Sat 20-Apr-13 12:45:37

Girls names not my cup of tea. Like Lyra best though.

Love Robin and George. Like Arthur.

NymphadoraTonks Sat 20-Apr-13 13:01:31

I love Robin, I wish I could use it for any future boys I may have, but our surname is Wood. Just won't work ;)

fussychica Sat 20-Apr-13 17:58:31

Lyra & Ben

Exhaustipated Sat 20-Apr-13 18:06:16

Lovely names.

How would you pronounce Viola?

The only ones I don't love are George (v popular, big boring dare I say it) and Jemima (not sure why... Puddleduck?!)

Still18atheart Sat 20-Apr-13 18:23:52

Jemima - if you can put up with the puddleduck jokes i quite like it
Penelope - love
Viola - violin
Lyra - lycra

George - love
Arthur - quite like it
Benjamin - love
Robin - meh

Ikeameatballs Sat 20-Apr-13 18:25:20

Penelope and Arthur

frogchops Sun 21-Apr-13 20:00:07

Jemima IMO is your best girls name followed by Lyra (altho I read Lycra to start with :-/)
I prefer Ben to Benjamin but its the best there. My DP loves robin but I hate it shortened to rob. If you can deal with this then its ok.
Why about Thea, Faith, Esme?
Toby, frankie?

ShadowStorm Sun 21-Apr-13 21:30:36

Penelope and Arthur. I also like Benjamin and George.

Jemima just makes me think Jemima Puddleduck.

CruCru Sun 21-Apr-13 22:47:33

Viola - provided the emphasis is on the Vi (Sharespearean character) not the o - string instrument. Like Jemima too - obvious how to spell and pronounce it.

ellesabe Mon 22-Apr-13 21:58:10

Jemima - the best name ever <biased>
Penelope - I also love this
Viola - Quite nice
Lyra - Not as keen

Other names along the same lines...Felicity, Verity, Ramona, Sienna?

George - I would use as a middle name
Arthur - Excellent name. Would have been on our list if it didn't sound daft with our surname.
Benjamin - Meh
Robin - I love this but can't stand nn Rob. Would this bother you?

Other names along the same lines...Dominic, Henry, Edward, Felix?

ellesabe Mon 22-Apr-13 21:59:45

By the way, my Jemima has only had the Puddleduck comment once in 2.5 years. Don't let it put you off!

Jemima ... Unsure of this , the puddleduck is too obvious I think
Penelope ... Quite like this , pretty name , easy to shorten
Viola .. Love this , very sweet and pretty
Lyra ... No . It's awful

Maybe Gemma ? Lucinda ?

George.. Love this (my son is George )
Arthur.. From Eastenders ?
Benjamin ... Lovely , good strong name
Robin .. Love this too .

Maybe Michael ? Andrew ?

HopefullA Thu 25-Apr-13 12:41:14

Love love love Jemima - Lyra reminds me so lycra - Sorry!!
LOve Bejamin too - not a fan of Robin for a boy to be honest.
How about Albert or bertie

MadameJosephine Thu 25-Apr-13 15:37:06

Love Lyra, not keen on the other 3 girls names. Prefer Violet to Viola. How about Iris or Jennifer?

George or Arthur are both lovely. Not keen in Benjamin and Robin is more of a girls name to me.
