Name my dd!

Dd is due next week and we're still stumped for her name! Help me out mnetters! Here's the criteria:
1. Middle name to be Christina so something that goes with that.
2. We like traditional names so nothing too modern (no Keira-type names). DS is Edward, to give you an idea.
3. Nothing one-syllabled - surname is only one syllable so I think it needs a first name that's more than one syllable to balance it out. Surname begins with P.
4. Names we love but have ruled out because they're already in the family: Alice, Lucy, Elizabeth.
5. Would prefer it not to be a name in the top ten - I love Olivia, Evie etc, but don't want her to be one of five in her class.

I think that's it - please share your ideas! I promise I will update with what we choose!

Christina is sweet. Elizabeth Christina would have been perfect!

Naomi Christina
Gwendoline Christina
Marianne Christina
Penelope Christina (not over fond of this but it does sound right)
Harriet Christina
Rachel Christina
Martha Christina

Lydia, that has something of Olivia about it. There are some out there but it's not as popular.

Clara

Juliet

I second Susannah, Marianne and Penelope.

Maybe less classic but I love Hazel. That might be too quirky for your taste.

Thanks guys. I love loads of these. I've been trying to think of names that don't end in A just because I wasn't sure if that would be too much when Christina ends in A? I love Emilia, but do you think Emilia Christina sounds odd?

Would deffo avoid anything with an 'A' ending tbh.

MacCrackles Mon 01-Apr-13 22:10:43

My first thoughts include:

Harriet Christina P
Catherine Christina P
Helena Christina P
Sarah Christina P
Emily Christina P (although duplicates E from Edward)
Hannah Christina P
Celia Christina P (perhaps a bit of a mouthful but how often would they really be said together? <Ponders>)
Emma Christina P (duplicates again)
Sophie Christina P
Maria Christina P (not so sure about this one)
Amy Christina P
Philippa Christina P
Charlotte Christina P
Josephine Christina P
Alexandra Christina P
Beatrice Christina P
Felicity Christina P
These are just my first thoughts so imagine what my second and third could bring forth wink.

Xanthe

Or as Christina was Rossetti's sister (he married an Elizabeth and you have ruled that out) but he had a well known affair with Jane Morris - not two syllables I know - and painted her prolifically.

A play on it could of course be Rosamund - Rosalinde or have a look at some of the names of his works. Actually Ophelia was possed by Elizabeth Siddall.

So:

Xanthe (because I like it)
Ophelia because of the connection
Jane because of Rossetti's mistress
Rosamund or Rosalinde because of the name Rosetti

My children sparkle by the way but you have already discounted the girl's name but the two names do go together. grin.

Mine is going to be called Sophia as name is easy to pronounce in Dutch and English (I'm Dutch and DP is English)

SilverBirdie Mon 01-Apr-13 22:12:17

If you're trying to avoid too popular is Emilia not too similar to the mega popular Amelia?
I was wondering about the A endings but think Anna Christina works really nicely grin probably to so if both names are also three syllable though

lurcherlover Mon 01-Apr-13 22:12:31

Hmm...Beatrice is one I hadn't really considered, but I like it...

I once met a little girl called Hester. At first i was a bit shock pardon? But it grew on me. It's quite an old fashioned name. It means 'star' and has variants of Hesther, Esther, Hettie, Ettie...i think it's nice smile

barnet Mon 01-Apr-13 22:15:31

And Edward and Emilia are good together

marriedinwhiteagain Mon 01-Apr-13 22:15:48

Imogen?

Hester is gorgeous - can't believe I forgot about it! Hester it is then OP! wink

Not Emilia - she will forever be asked is it Amelia - "what made your mum call you Emilia and not Amelia".

lurcherlover Mon 01-Apr-13 22:26:30

married, that's my main worry with it!

Imogen and Violet are lovely. DH has just said "violent" when I suggested it though grin

cuppateaanyone Mon 01-Apr-13 22:26:32

Constance

I wouldn't worry too much about whether it goes with Christina (though you could have just Christine) as you will rarely ever say the names together after the first month. Much more important to have a first name that you like rather than one that "goes" with the middle name.

I think Emilia is nice but it is not uncommon and will get confused with the whole Amelia thing so if rarity is your wish , I'd discount it tbh

lurcherlover Mon 01-Apr-13 22:30:20

Definitely want Christina not Christine as it's my mum's name.

From suggestions so far I like Beatrice, Imogen and Violet. What do you think of Abigail?

I quite like Abigail BUT 1) Abigail in The Crucible is so bloody awful and b) an abigail is a maid, so both of those put me off a bit.

Violet is nice.

charlottery Mon 01-Apr-13 22:33:41

Adelaide

lurcherlover Mon 01-Apr-13 22:34:29

Abigail in The Crucible is awful, 'tis true...but Abby in ER is cool ignoring the alcoholic aspects

lurcherlover Mon 01-Apr-13 22:35:01

Adelaide is nice, what would the nickname be?

Zippo Mon 01-Apr-13 22:36:25

I thought Helena Christina had a nice ring too it but maybe too much "A" and sounds too close to Helena Christianson.

Arabella
Beatrice as mentioned is great (Beatrix too)
Hermione
If you like Emilia how about Emma, Emily or Emmeline
Matilda
Eloise

BTW I adore Edward as a name

lulaloon Mon 01-Apr-13 22:37:18

I think perhaps having something ending in an 'e' sound (be it a nickname even), would go well with Christina and your surname.

Penelope
Cecily
Delphi
Posy
Josephne
Ottilie
Hebe
Annie

Though also think Florence, Violet, Willow and Beatrice are very nice.

marriedinwhiteagain Mon 01-Apr-13 22:37:48

Imogen goes with Edward (Immi and Ed). It goes with Christina too. I think it was on our short-list many years ago.

Love Hermione and Eloise.

Don't like Adelaide, sorry. Wasn't that awful girl on Bread called it? Or something similar?

Love Posy too, but suspect it will be too cutesy for Lurcher's tastes. smile

MortifiedAdams Mon 01-Apr-13 22:39:39

Margaret, nns Meg or Maggie
Harriet
Juliet

marriedinwhiteagain Mon 01-Apr-13 22:40:04

But if you go for Eloise, why not Louise? Not Hermione, please not Hermione -she will have to grow into it wink

marriedinwhiteagain Mon 01-Apr-13 22:40:50

Good luck by the way. Could be any minute from now I guess grin

Elin, Seren, Harriet, Alice - you need to be thinking of the shortened options because edward will end up as less syllables at school. The more syllables the more shortening.

lulaloon Mon 01-Apr-13 22:46:21

Posy can be a fab nickname for Primrose or Josephine

Posy as nn for Primrose is v sweet.

marriedinwhiteagain Mon 01-Apr-13 22:51:56

Daphne (primrose made me think of Daffodil and I reached Daphne - which I think is pretty and due a come back).

ICanTotallyDance Tue 02-Apr-13 05:08:11

I was going to say Elizabeth... but, if not, I'm not sure how these names go but:

Jennifer
Diana
Avalyn/Avelyn
Evelyn (you said you liked Evie)
Maria
Permelia (not a name I'd ever though about, but I think Permelia Christina has a ring to it)
Sarah/Sara/Sera/Serah
Charlotte
Louise/Louisa
Winnifred
Natalie
Abigale
Helen/Helene
Mary

I think those are ok. The ending with an 'a' thing is a bit tricky. I think it depends on the combination, your surname and also how often you plan on using your child's middle name. For your son, how often do you call him Edward/Ed/Eddie/Ted versus, say, Edward James (or whatever his middle name is)?

Alternatively, just make her name Christina and save all the trouble. grin

lurcherlover Tue 02-Apr-13 10:44:32

Thanks so much for all the suggestions everyone. I've added Phoebe to the list too. Not so keen on Posy and Daphne - I think they're a bit too girly for me. So current faves are Imogen, Beatrice, Violet, Abigail and Phoebe - any more like those you can think of? This is a huge help, MN has done more in 12 hours than DH and I have managed in nine months grin

I think the A ending is okay. My "official" (never used) name is Christina and my middle name begins and ends with an "A". I think it flows fine but is a bit of a mouthful grin so I would say maybe bit a shorter first name otherwise it's a lot to write on forms!

Somebody said Mary Christina, I think that sounds lovely.
