right. down to the wire. due weds. DH will only consider the names listed above. i dont actually like any of them but sick of arguing. which would you go with. please dont come up with alternatives, i have already given a list of 30 names i like of which he will not consider any!

Bumpsadaisie Mon 25-Mar-13 11:48:36

Marcus and Luke always sound a bit limp wristed to me.

Sebastian it has to be! And Seb is a good nickname. Good luck, hope he comes soon and doesn't keep you hanging on for ages ...

SoupDreggon Mon 25-Mar-13 11:50:48

I prefer Lucas to Luke. If I had to pick one of your list I'd probably go with Sebastian.

All three are perfectly fine though.

SoupDreggon Mon 25-Mar-13 11:51:05

Unless your surname is Coe, obviously.

wedontplaywithelectrics Mon 25-Mar-13 12:16:58

Sebastian x

Beatrixpotty Mon 25-Mar-13 12:23:44

Quite like all of them.
Probably would go for Marcus or Sebastian as slightly fewer around.

Oopps Mon 25-Mar-13 13:13:14

Sebastian smile

FunSizedMum Mon 25-Mar-13 13:33:53

Definately Sebastian from your very short list. I think it's a lovely name and Seb is a cute nn too.

ladymia Mon 25-Mar-13 14:05:38

I prefer Sebastian out of those but dislike the nn Seb

TrishkanOEUFak Mon 25-Mar-13 14:10:58

Luke or Sebastian. But if you don't like any of them, remember you have 40 days after the birth to register the baby. Please don't pick a name you actively don't like to shut your husband up. I did this, and I still actively like my DC's name nearly 9 years later.

mayanna123 Mon 25-Mar-13 14:14:56

"i dont actually like any of them but sick of arguing"

Please don't give up - you really need to find a name YOU and YOUR DH likes!

Personally I don't the nicknames for Sebastian - Seb/Sebby/Basty - so would choose Marcus.

Frogman Mon 25-Mar-13 14:16:36

Oerrr, sounds like your husband is a bit poncy with names.

ladymia Mon 25-Mar-13 14:20:10

Yes I also want to add, I have a friend that named her son something she didn't like but her OH insisted on and she can't still bring herself to say it 6 months later she still just calls him baby.

Tell your OH this could affect your ability to bond with your baby, it's important you find a name you both like.

If he's like this over the name what else won't he let you do??

EduCated Mon 25-Mar-13 14:22:09

'Marcus and Luke always sound a bit limp wristed to me'

What the actual Jeff? hmm

I love Sebastian/Seb.

KittenOfDoom Mon 25-Mar-13 14:32:41

Marcus is the best one. He can be Marc if he prefers it.

Sebastian is a bit too limpwristed Brideshead for me, and Luke always makes me think of liver fluke, which is a nasty disease that farm animals get.

EduCated Mon 25-Mar-13 14:34:52

Ok, seriously, limp wristed is ok to use? As in, 'those names will make your baby sound gay'? hmm

KittenOfDoom Mon 25-Mar-13 14:46:12

Who said anything about gay?

EduCated Mon 25-Mar-13 14:47:22

What else is limp wristed supposed to imply?

woozlebear Mon 25-Mar-13 14:49:55

Camp? And straight men can be very camp.

ladymia Mon 25-Mar-13 14:50:51

Come now Kitten, everyone knows what's implied with the homophobic term limp-wristed!

What is YOUR definition of it?

Bumpsadaisie Mon 25-Mar-13 14:50:54

Why do you think gay people are limp-wristed, EduCated? confused

KittenOfDoom Mon 25-Mar-13 14:51:57

To me it suggests someone a bit feeble, perhaps a bit effeminate - which is NOT the same as gay. Bit of a weedy little wanker who gets sand kicked in his face.

woozlebear Mon 25-Mar-13 14:52:37

Which distracted me from my original contribution which was that I like Marcus the best for reasons in no way related to an exremely good looking German guy I used to know by that name It was spelled with a K not a C, which I thought made it look cooler.

What names do YOU like OP?

LeonieDeSainteVire Mon 25-Mar-13 14:55:26

Well I like them all!

I only know 1 child Luke, a few called Marcus but a lot called Sebastian if that helps.

Good names, ignore stupid comments.

MrsSpagBol Mon 25-Mar-13 14:58:39

Love Sebastian!!!

EduCated Mon 25-Mar-13 15:00:58

I don't think gay people are limp wristed. I do think limp wristed is a vile, outdated homophobic term used to refer to gay people.

EduCated Mon 25-Mar-13 15:01:40

And my preference for Seb has nothing to do with a beautiful Belgian man I once, ahem, knew wink

creativevoid Mon 25-Mar-13 15:09:31

We have a Luke so I am prejudiced. One of the reasons we chose it is that it doesn't really have any class connotations so works in all settings. However 3 years on I occasionally read a newspaper article about some young thug named Luke beating up an old granny (or something) and I cringe inside. I suppose that's a risk with any name though...

I think your dh needs to back off with his insistence of names and allow a name to come once your ds is born, it should be a name you both like. Congratulations in advance smile

KittenOfDoom Mon 25-Mar-13 15:13:26

limp-wristed - describes a man who does not behave in the strong and determined way traditionally expected in men.
<offensive> describes a man who seems, by his manner, to be gay.

dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/british/limp-wristed

It's not me that's being homophobic then, as I was using the first definition.

EduCated Mon 25-Mar-13 15:15:17

The two meanings are intrinsically intertwined. I take it your implying that I'm homophobic?

KittenOfDoom Mon 25-Mar-13 15:39:19

Take it how you want. I shall move on.

Bumpsadaisie Mon 25-Mar-13 15:41:08

I don't think you're homophobic. Slightly obsessed though!

Limp-wristed is not a homophobic term. It can be applied to men of any and all sexual orientations.

EduCated Mon 25-Mar-13 15:45:53

How on earth do I appear slightly obsessed?

Google limp wristed. All the hits I got mentioned it being a derogatory term applied to gay men. This is the only context I have ever heard it in. In RL I have only ever heard it used by people of a certain age, where to imply a man may be anything other than perfectly straight is seen as a huge insult.

I am truly surprised to see it here used to describe baby names, of all things. I thought it was a term which was thankfully falling out of usage. Sadly it seems not.

<Apologies OP, probably not the way you saw this thread going!>

SoupDreggon Mon 25-Mar-13 15:48:30

I missed the bit where you said you don't like any of them.

In this case you need to start again with a fresh list. Don't get bullied into choosing a name you don't like.

Bumpsadaisie Mon 25-Mar-13 15:49:09

I have no wish to be offensive to gay people. I have actually just emailed my DD's godfather (gay), my DD's godmother (gay), my cousin (gay) and one of my best friends from college (gay) to see if they think "limp-wristed" is an appalling term of homphobic abuse only used nowadays by ignorant dinosaurs.

CPtart Mon 25-Mar-13 16:28:49

I have a Luke -love it. Marcus was also on our short list. Sebastian is ok, I know a few and they all get called Seb.
I would be more worried about your husband laying down the law.....what will he be like will other issues when the child is born??

CruCru Tue 26-Mar-13 11:54:52

I like Luke and Sebastian but if you don't, don't settle. It will make you very bad tempered.

Still18atheart Tue 26-Mar-13 12:04:59

I love all three especially Sebastian

MamaBlue4 Tue 26-Mar-13 13:48:07

My brother is called Luke, and I've always loved Sebastian, if we're having a boy we've put that on a short list smile

Jambi Tue 26-Mar-13 13:58:23

Oh, I love Sebastian! Another vote from me! grin

simplesusan Tue 26-Mar-13 22:07:00

Luke.

raisah Wed 27-Mar-13 02:24:50

Sebastian

MidnightMasquerader Wed 27-Mar-13 02:34:09

Lucky your DH, getting his own way by virtue of refusing to compromise... hmm

Like you, I don't actually like any of them, but if forced at gunpoint, would chose Luke and Sebaastian from his list.

TheRealFellatio Wed 27-Mar-13 03:03:38

Sebastian is truly lovely. Marcus...meh. Luke is AWFUL

delilah88 Wed 27-Mar-13 22:01:07

I love all these names!!!! Luke is my personal fave

dragonflymama Wed 27-Mar-13 22:20:23

DH = Markus and love his name (he's German hence k sp). I'm currently 29 weeks pregnant with dc2, Sebastian nn Seb is our top boys name. Prefer Luca or Lucas to Luke. Having said that agree you need to like name too. Good luck!

willyoulistentome Wed 27-Mar-13 22:31:22

I have a Marcus so a bit biased. Funnily enough my Marcus has two mates called Luke and Sebastian, (and none of them are limp wristed)

BernadetteRostenkowskiWolowitz Wed 27-Mar-13 22:37:57

I love Marcus.

The other two are a bit affected/bland. Marcus good strong Roman name, go for that.

willyoulistentome Wed 27-Mar-13 22:42:31

<high fives Bernadette>

<glares at Fellatio>

TheRealFellatio Thu 28-Mar-13 02:51:46

Sorry. grin

I am ambivalent about Marcus, but for some reason Luke is one of those names I have alwys disliked. There is something about the sound it makes that bothers me. When I hear it I can't help thinking 'Luke = Liver fluke' confused

Plus my son had a friend called Luke and he was a PITA.

BernadetteRostenkowskiWolowitz Thu 28-Mar-13 19:54:30

willyoulistentome yes, it's one of those excellent names that I just can't understand why it's not more popular. I think people are put off it because it's too like Mark. Which is so so so so so popular for men my age. Seriously half of my friends' husbands are called Mark! Marcus was one of the few names my x and I agreed on but it sounded dreadful with the sur name. Only for that there would be another Marcus out there. Your Marcus gets a great name and the privilege of being one of so few!

Kneedeepindaisies Thu 28-Mar-13 19:58:15

How about Luc or Luca? But honestly if you don't like anybody them don't settle for one.

BernadetteRostenkowskiWolowitz Thu 28-Mar-13 19:59:15

There are so many Lucas and Lukas out there.

Kneedeepindaisies Thu 28-Mar-13 20:03:17

Anyone not anybody blush

Ohhelpohnoitsa Thu 28-Mar-13 20:11:12

Sebastian or Marcus. Luke is a nice name but not as strong as the ithers. Lots of Lucas boys around here (Lucases doesnt work does it!)

Marcus. Lots of Sebastians around already. Lucas is great too, you can always call him Luke!

nectarini1983 Thu 28-Mar-13 20:48:53

There's still time to find a name u both like....get the name book back out!!!!

willyoulistentome Thu 28-Mar-13 21:55:42

grin at Bernadette
