Margot. What does everyone think?
Lovely name.
Excellent name
Love it!
I really like it.
One of my pet ducks is called Margot, as was my baby massage doll. I loved The Good Life.
Fabulous name!
I knew a real life Margot in the 70s (when I was a child, I hasten to add). Very "Good Life".
Proper name. I love celebrities that use proper names. Far cooler than naming them after a fruit.
I like it!
fabulous
what is their first child called?
Lovely name
Their first child is Lyra. Glad to hear you all like it, my 1 year old DD is also a Margot, I love it
Love it
Lovely. I imagine a little French girl.
I love that name...it makes me think of a little girl in a book...
Love it, was on my girls' list.
I don't like it - all I can think of is the lady from the good life!
At least it is actually a name though and they haven't called her mars bar or something equally ridiculous!
Horrible.
Oh cute Lyra and Margot go nicely! I didn't even know she was preggers.
Lovely
Appalling.
Almost as bad as Morag.
I love it. Margot Fontaine, Margot Ledbetter.
I love Margot (and Morag!), I see a few of them popping up now, beautiful name. Not so keen on Lyra, but they make a lovely sibset!
Love.
Penelope Keith is such a great comic actress to have made that character so appealing. The others all had nice characters to play.
Horrible name, hugely in vogue with various Sloanes of my acquaintance right now.
Morag's get called Mogie.
Almost as bad as Senga.
Love it. Was on my shortlist.
I think Margot may think her sister has the better name. Not to my taste. But lovely couple. Congrats to them.
Love it, I've just read Gone Girl which has a character called Go, was quite far into the book when I discovered her full name was Margot, it had been really bugging me (thicko emoticon).
Isn't it short for Margaret?
Suprisingly, it's lovely. I always expect celebrities to call their children stupid names but Margot is gorgeous. And I love Lyra too.
ooooh, nice! Lyra & Margot sounds great. :-)
I like Margot better than Lyra.
Weirdly I would spell Margot Margo, because it's more like Mango than Magot. Told you it was weird.
Hideous. Trying too hard.
Lovely
Oh I really don't like it. I don't think Margot is a nice sounding name at all. It's almost as bad as Ethel.
Love it! And I like Morag too :D
It's a lovely name.
Lovely. And not overly-over done.
Love Lyra, hate Margot!
Margot pronounced the French way (mar-go) or the German way (mar-got)? Not sure I like either that much.
Yy the Good Life. Also when I hear it in my head it's said with Lloyd Grosman's accent...
I have a good friend called Margot. It's a lovely name.
I like it but prefer Margaux spelling
Surely Margaux is a plural? Like gateaux?
I agree with LouisianaBlue Simples
LOVE it & would use it myself but you would be hard pushed to find a name that sounds worse with our surname which starts with an M and is pretty close to Mason!
No, I really dislike the name Margot! Lyra isnt much better, but I agree with pp, at Least it's not Apple or Satsuma! Lol, each to their own, I'm sure she will grow up to suit her name perfectly x
I am amazed at how many hideous names are popular on mumsnet.
Sounds rather bleugh but am sure as its their baby and the baby will be lovely it will become lovely like all names do.
Nice
Only just realised they've had a second child, called Margot, and thought 'I bet there's a thread about it on MN'.
I think it's a lovely name - pretty and retro but a change from all the Sophies, Evies and Rubys currently floating around. It reminds me of childhood books and, of course, the beautiful Margot Fonteyn.
I agree it's also nice when a celeb doesn't turn themselves inside out to find some unusual, never been used before, really stupid name to land their child with.
I like it
Although reckon she could have been conceived whilst watching the Good Life
Lyra on the other hand sounds too much like lycra
I agree with Bibs123...
I think Margot is awful. Lyra not much better either but I've lost pretty much all faith in celebs giving their offspring a reletively normal, pretty name...the "old/classic" names are coming back into "fashion" and circulation but I think some are better off as middle names rather than first names...don't get me wrong, some of the newer, mordern names aren't much better, worse infact in some cases, especially celebs kids names choices, like Apple,Sparrow and Buddy Bear for example!
Hideous
Love it ,I think it's a beautiful name
I think it's very nice, classic without being too try hard.
For those being very blunt you might want to note that the OP's dd is also called Margot and perhaps be slightly gentler.
Not a name I would choose, but, it's okay.
Nobody wants to cause offence to anyone who has a certain name or called their DC a certain name but if we all argeed and thought/said every name under the sun that ever gets suggested or mentioned was lovely and nice then the world would be a very boring place
Plus name choices are very much an "each to their own" thing in reality. I know I wouldn't call my child half the names I've had suggested to me on my thread but then there's people that would never call their child the name(s) I've come out with either lol. There will always be people that will love a name and others that will hate it. Its just a case of varying personal taste and I'm sure the OP didn't expect everyone to say what a lovely name it is just because its a name they chose for their child but she,and obviously sophie dahl and jamie cullum, love the name and that's all that really matters, not the opinions of a bunch of strangers on a forum
xx
Love it!
Apart from the Good Life (which I loved anyway), it makes me think of Margot Frank, Anne Frank's older sister.
I can just hear a very dismissive "Jerry!"said in a cutlglass accent.
It's a name that always makes me smile, so for that reason: fabulous, imvho
I'm so behind!! I had no idea they were a couple!
Love it - would be on my list but unfortunately it is the name of my hairdressers dog!
Sorry I will have to go against the grain here but I think its awful.
Sounds nice, but written it reminds me of maggot.
First thought - lovely name
Second thought - Margot Frank, Anne's sister.
Third thought - Margot Fonteyn
Definitely didn't think "Margo Leadbetter" - that is a slightly different name anyway.
