Do you like either...also could you suggest more names in a similar style?

I like Biba but not keen on Hebe I'm afraid. Phoebe?

ODearMe Tue 26-Feb-13 21:10:34

How about Lebe?

baskingseals Tue 26-Feb-13 21:14:38

Love hebe but not biba I'm afraid!

Rhubarbgarden Tue 26-Feb-13 21:21:42

Hebe is ok. Biba sounds like an electronic noise.

MustafaCake Tue 26-Feb-13 21:22:05

Biba is OK. Don't like Hebe at all.

How about:

Vivienne (Vivi)
Tula
Arla
Etta
Hera
Gigi

IslaValargeone Tue 26-Feb-13 21:22:15

Biba is fabulous.

HorryDrelincourt Tue 26-Feb-13 21:22:22

I was at school with a Biba who was Edwina in full. The nickname a squillion times cooler than the full grin and suited/still suits her.

Hebe is a plant, isn't it? Not My Style.

SanityClause Tue 26-Feb-13 21:25:05

DD2 was known as Biba when she was younger. It was a nickname based on her real name.

Someone did once ask me if we'd named her after the 1960s department store.

MrsPoglesWood Tue 26-Feb-13 21:30:15

Biba is a 60s/70s clothing label which is still on sale in House of Fraser as a retro line. Google it. I really wouldn't use it as a name.

As others have said Phoebe is a good alternative. It was my GGG GM's name who was born in 1820.

throwinshapes Tue 26-Feb-13 21:40:04

Hebe is beautiful and botanical.

INeverSaidThat Tue 26-Feb-13 21:42:01

Hebe jeebies sad

Biba is ok tough

PoppadomPreach Tue 26-Feb-13 21:42:08

DS1 has a Biba in his class who he insists is called beaver.

Bt I do think Biba is a lovely name, not so keen on Hebe - as in heebeegeebees?

INeverSaidThat Tue 26-Feb-13 21:43:12

Hebe jeebies sad

Biba is ok though smile

Spoonful Tue 26-Feb-13 22:03:11

LynetteScavo Tue 26-Feb-13 22:39:17

I love Hebe, but Biba sounds short for something else.

wiltingfast Tue 26-Feb-13 23:28:34

No

Hebe is garden hedging.

Biba is a clothes label.

Zaphiro Tue 26-Feb-13 23:46:45

One would be fine. You're not having twins though, are you? Together they sound like a baby's babbling.

I quite like Biba, but I love Hebe.

12ylnon Wed 27-Feb-13 09:35:50

I can't believe you would consider calling a child Biba, it would sound an awful lot to me like you were a huge Justin Beiber fan.

Love Hebe though, i know one and she's just the most adorable girl.

rockinhippy Wed 27-Feb-13 09:50:18

Sorry but that's a really ignorant response, its a name that has been around since way before he was even a twinkle in his DMs eye, I have a very elegant, beautiful & extremely intelligent, lovely friend in her forties who is a Biba, she is French & I personally think its a lovely name & I can't imagine anyone else but yourself think of JB

I refer it to Hebe, which to me sounds a bit too old lady

hatsybatsy Wed 27-Feb-13 10:17:08

hebe is the better of the 2 IMO.

dido?

(think the bieber response is valid actually - that is what will be the contemporary comparison while this child is growing up - apologies to any elegant French ladies.....)

12ylnon Wed 27-Feb-13 10:24:04

rockin i apologise if i offended you, but i thought the point of these threads is to tell the OP what your first reaction to the name is. That is mine.

Also, being a childminder, i can tell you that all i have to say is 'cebeebies' or beep to some children and they start talking about JB! He's (unfortunately) very popular among children and imo, a terrible example for them, so as a parent naming a child, this would worry me.

rockinhippy Wed 27-Feb-13 10:29:57

No you didn't offend me at allI was just very surprised that was the first thoughts on an old classic & pretty name - mind you my DD & her friends hate him, so maybe I'm [thankfully ] living in a Beiber free bubblesmile

belfastbigmillie Wed 27-Feb-13 10:33:01

I think Biba is very cool.

rockinhippy Wed 27-Feb-13 10:35:34

Thinking in it, we know a teen Biba too (can't believe I forgot that as good friends DDblush & yes ultra cool kid with extremely cool muso parents smile

umiaisha Wed 27-Feb-13 17:05:42

I considered it for DD (nearly 7) but went for Coco in the end.

Still really love it. Its popular in the Middle East, normally as the short version of Habibti (sp?) which means sweetheart.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Wed 27-Feb-13 18:06:57

Both lovely names (unhelpful), along the same lines would also suggest
Zaza
Dana
Dede
Pia
Yoko

QuickLookBusy Wed 27-Feb-13 18:10:15

Dd has a friend called Hebe. She is 19 and a lovely, beautiful girl.

So I'm a bit biased but I love it.

PuddingWhine Wed 27-Feb-13 18:49:07

I like Biba as a nickname. But hebe, no, that's terrible. Heebie geebie.
Clio and Vita and Zena are in teh same style I think.

I know a Hebe, not keen though. Biba is a fashion label you can but in house of Frazier!?

OkayHazel Fri 01-Mar-13 16:54:38

I I know a Heba... maybe that helps?

firawla Fri 01-Mar-13 16:57:22

I'm sure 12 is not the only person who would think of justin bieber when they hear the name said..

I like Heba/Hiba more and also Habiba

FrankWippery Fri 01-Mar-13 16:57:41

My 18 year old goddaughter is called Biba. I love it. I love Hebe too, not quite as much, but I'm biased.

SE13Mummy Sat 02-Mar-13 00:34:40

I know a couple of people who use Biba as their shortened name - one Hassiba, one Habiba. They are both lovely people so the name has positive connections for me.

Hebe is pretty but I prefer Phoebe (I know Hebes and Phoebes too!).

stifnstav Sat 02-Mar-13 00:57:47

Reba as in Reba McIntyre? She was in Tremors, which is very cool (possibly).
