Struggling with unusual boys names

Hello,
So, if we have a girl we like Luna Violet.
We have a few boys names but non that I hugely love.
So far we have
Dexter
Ezra
Jude
Samson
Jonah

Anyone have any ideas for nice boys names? To go with a two syllable surname ending in Ee sound.

flopsy1974 Wed 20-Feb-13 06:10:49

Jonah and Jude are both great names smile
Not keen on the others.

ClipClapClop Wed 20-Feb-13 06:25:23

How about these?

Abel
Axel
Clay
Elijah
Fenner

wiltingfast Wed 20-Feb-13 08:18:30

I lkike Ezra and Jude!

Or how about

Milo
Bruno
Senan
Cormac
Cathal (caw hel)
Setanta
Amos
Bosco

MrsJamin Wed 20-Feb-13 08:41:24

2 of your names are great but not that unusual: Dexter - no 79 in 2012 in UK, Jude - No 81. I know a Jonah too. Just in case you desperately want it to be very unusual. How about Levi?

Romymum Wed 20-Feb-13 08:44:05

How about Silver?

seeker Wed 20-Feb-13 08:47:19

You do know that Luna will be called Loony, don't you.

SeventiesBush Wed 20-Feb-13 08:47:26

Lev

ewaczarlie Wed 20-Feb-13 08:47:31

Friend named her DS rio which I really like

Dinosaurhunter Wed 20-Feb-13 08:47:36

I love Jude !
How about -
Jed
Brody
Luthais
Jesse

Welly558 Wed 20-Feb-13 09:16:23

yawn Seeker, that's another thread. You do realise whatever you call your child, someone else could find a derogatory nickname. I could call them Sarah but if they were fat, skinny, short, tall, curly haired,pale...they would get an unkind nickname to suit that.
We had a girl called Ellen at school,a relatively simple 'normal' name. She got called 'Smellen'.It doesn't even make much sense but it followed her. There was a Dominic who would be called DomiDick.I find that much more offensive than being called a Loon.
But I guess you must love all my boys names seeing as you entirely ignored them, despite them being the thread subject.
Thank you everyone.Yeah maybe unusual wasn't the right adjective. More Kings of Leon ish is perhaps what we meant haha.Quite strong names.
DH loved Elijah but I just think Elijah Wood. I love Jesse but DH doesn't. Some nice ones to think of there though, thank you.Boys are much trickier for me to think of but that's because I think its a DD!

Galen
Piper
Torin
Merrick

Eskino Wed 20-Feb-13 09:26:10

Love Samson and Jude. Jonah is a 'bad luck' name isn't it?

Do you mean, like, Amish names?

What about

Noah
John
Lemuel
Abraham
Gabriel?

Welly558 Wed 20-Feb-13 09:38:27

Ooo 'bad luck'?! I don't know. Due to the whale issue or something else?
Ha yes I suppose Amish names then.Although DH would die if that was suggested. I love Merrick but DH associates it with Being Human.
I like Abe.We have a Noah in the family :-\

amck5700 Wed 20-Feb-13 10:00:26

I don't watch Tv so didn't know the Being Human reference to Merrick - I know it as a hill. Place names can be good - especially for boys - e.g. Devon, Ross etc

or, how about:

Dorian
Alrid
Caleb

Welly558 Wed 20-Feb-13 10:48:31

I liked Caleb but DH doesn't so its out.
DH keeps going to Ezra.I like it because its Biblical.
Ha I had never heard the 'bad luck' idea.I obviously know the Jonah and the Whale story which I agree,is a spot of bad luck to find yourself in :-)
I think it may end up being Dexter tbh. Always wanted Elliott for first child regardless of gender but hubby dislikes. Very much like Ellis but is our friends name. I also know a little Dorian! I love Felix but its been poo-pooed by DH.

Rooneyisalwaysmoaning Wed 20-Feb-13 11:50:22

Merrick was in Adam and the Ants wasn't he?

Sashapineapple Wed 20-Feb-13 11:59:46

Dexter and Jude are great names. Dexter was on our list.

seeker Wed 20-Feb-13 13:02:22

Dexter and Jude both in the top 100. If that bothers you- it wouldn't me, but you did say you wanted unusual!

MoppingMummy Wed 20-Feb-13 14:17:31

I like Ezra best.

SVN Wed 20-Feb-13 14:54:38

Gene

Welly558 Wed 20-Feb-13 17:34:35

Ha I didn't know about Adam and the Ants (plus it is a little before my time).
I love Nate but DH doesn't =( Boo!
We have a Seth and a Noah in the family although I love that name(Seth).
Saul is a good one, I like that. Will mention it to DH. Watch this space.
V much appreciate everyone's suggestions, so thank you.
I like Rafferty but not sure DH will. I also like Leif(Lay-fh) but DH said last night he would think on that one...perhaps not ha.
No it doesn't bother me that its in the Top100. It's rather that the names aren't popular within our community or that they will be at school with several.

LentilAsAnything Wed 20-Feb-13 20:30:34

I really like Dexter. The others are too biblical for me - but that seems to be what you like! Rafferty and Leif are also more my style than those in your OP.
None of them are quite on a par with Luna though, which I love.

Cyrus (the sun)
Huxley (outdoorsman)
Obadiah (servant of God)
Raphael (God has healed)
Rex (king)
Thaddeus (heart)
Ugo (thinker)
Zephyr (ushers in springtime)

poppydaisy Wed 20-Feb-13 20:36:11

Love Dexter or how about
Quentin
Reuben
Magnus

Agree that all names are teaseable - there's a little William who gets called Willy and an Ellie who became Smellie! Unavoidable and not worth over-worrying about IMO.

How about -

Jonas
Theo
Leo
Caleb
Lucas
Edwin
Rowan
Oscar

NappiesandGladrags Wed 20-Feb-13 20:42:30

I love Jude and Jonah, we have a Gabriel - and although I hear on MN and see in lists that their popularity is increasing I suppose that all depends on where you live? Having lived in North Lincs, North Yorks and West Yorks over the last 4-5 years we've only met 2 with the same name as our son?

Also love Elijah.

Most unusual boys names I've come across recently are

Soren
Zee
Hunter
Jessie

Know a couple of Saul's and love that name too!

Good Luck smile

StarNoodle Wed 20-Feb-13 20:45:27

Jonah is GORGEOUS. I'd use that if there weren't a Joseph and a Joel in the family already. Ezra is very cool too. Dexter is gettting far more popular.

Jonah should be a good luck story as he was saved from the whale and then saved the city of ninnevah, so that is all good stuff for a little boy to do!

BlahBlahBlahhh Wed 20-Feb-13 20:49:52

Trevor
Nigel
Roger
Dick
Brian
Eric
Neville
....any help ? Keep it traditional I say ! Don't think you'll find another with the same name in their year at school...saying that, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if these names make a come back very soon !

BlahBlahBlahhh Wed 20-Feb-13 22:00:32

I'll get my coat blush

Was also going to suggest Soren, love that name.

serin Thu 21-Feb-13 23:53:43

Jude is gorgeous.

HoneyandRum Sat 23-Feb-13 00:01:59

Soren must be from Soren Lorenson in the Charlie and Lola books! He is Lola's invisible friend. (I mean I know the name had much more provenance but that's the pop-culture reference that jumps out at me)

Sashapineapple Sat 23-Feb-13 11:57:11

Soren is the name of a rock stars son for me. He has Danish roots.

If you go with Dexter be prepared to be greeted by several Labradors when you call him in the park! I've met several dogs called Dexter.

I rather like Zephyr. I thought it meant gentle breeze.

BinarySolo Sat 23-Feb-13 12:20:33

How about Emrys?

indibindiboos Mon 29-Jul-13 18:51:49

KateCroydon Fri 02-Aug-13 21:40:43

A 'jonah' is someone who brings a ship bad luck. Very archaic usage.
