Tilly, George and...

Dc3 is somewhat surprisingly on it's way and we're stuck on names. Dd is Matilda Grace Kathleen and ds is George Alexander Thomas.

So far I love Edward or Constance (Connie) but dh had no string feeling about either and just suggests Robin whether it's a girl or a boy which I really don't think goes with the other names?

Also the Kathleen is because dd was born on my Granny's birthday and Thomas as day was born on my Grandad's. So don't know if we should leave a third name out or give something with a family connection?

Just at a but of a stale mate and going round in circles. I wondered if there were any suggestions to get us moving on inour naming discussions...

chunops Mon 21-Jan-13 22:23:31

What about Edward Hugo James for the little man or Constance Verity Elizabeth for the little lady, good luck with your decision whatever you decide.

amck5700 Mon 21-Jan-13 22:41:17

Use Robin as the third name for either sex?

How about:
Lawrence Francis Robin
Nicholas Patrick Robin
Sebastian Edward Robin

Jessica Louise Robyn
Lillian Francesca Robyn
Rosalind Marissa Robyn

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Tue 22-Jan-13 01:15:42

I like Edward Hugo James, those 3 names sound great together.

Or Sebastian Robin Edward.

If DH isn't sold on Constance try something out of left field, he might give Connie another go?

Harriet or Hattie for a girl, you could use Robyn as a middle name.
Emily Robyn Louise

Constance Mary
Constance Daisy

schplappo Tue 22-Jan-13 18:40:55

I agree with you OP that Robin/Robyn just doesn't go.

If DH doesn't like your choices, how about Freddie/Charlie/William/arthur for a boy or Alice/Lucy/Elizabeth/Anna/philippa for a girl?

Good luck!

Thank you for the suggestions!

Really like Elizabeth for a girl and lots of good options for shortening. Had also tried Alice and Lucy on dh but both have been vetoed. Though I love all the suggestions dh seems to think we should move away from the more 'classic' names. ds is only 1 and dd 3 so it's not exactly long ago we were on the same page naming wise!

chunops I really like the flow of both your suggestions! Constance Verity Elizabeth particularly.

donkeys might try and push the limits on left field names and we can maybe come full circle back to Constance! Might employ that method!

thedevilisinthedetail Tue 22-Jan-13 21:23:32

Thank for the suggestions whilst I was very slowly typing!

We have a nephew very close in age to dd called Oscar so don't want to use that but otherwise like it!

Ned - we could have that as a nn for Edward. Will definitely try that with dh! Thank you.

Oliver is great - I had dismissed due to Tilly and Ollie all being a bit of a mouthful but maybe am over worrying?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Tue 22-Jan-13 21:24:58

Right, have not suggested this elsewhere but right out of left field...

{drum roll}....

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Tue 22-Jan-13 21:28:11

Or Phoebe.

thedevilisinthedetail Tue 22-Jan-13 21:28:19

Beatrice is excellent...our surname starts with a B though so might be a bit much...

puds I like Kitty and Henry. Ralph is lovely as well.

Think we could have Robin/Robyn as a middle name comprimise and see if we can find something we both love for the first!

Jojobump1986 Tue 22-Jan-13 21:32:38

When I read the title my first thought was 'Norman'... Can't say it'd appeal to me but thought I'd mention it just incase!

emmyloo2 Tue 22-Jan-13 22:10:13

I have a George Alexander so you have great taste! My current favorite for DD due in May is Elizabeth and I will be surprised if we don't go with this. I just think it is lovely, classic, great nicknames and goes with your other names.

thedevilisinthedetail Wed 23-Jan-13 21:21:47

Well I suggested Norman and suddenly Edward looking promising now! We also both like Ned!

Now to work round to Constance...

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Wed 23-Jan-13 21:26:14

Originally posted this a while ago. We seem to have agreed on Elizabeth Joy Frances and Edward Oliver John...except dh wants a boy to be known as Teddy. With our other two that would be Tilly, George and Teddy. I think Tilly and Teddy is a bit like a cbeebies programme or something. Does George make it more sensible or is it just a bit...bleugh?

thermalsinapril Mon 08-Apr-13 20:05:10

Your choices of names are very nice. Agree with you that Tiilly and Teddy is too much though.

thedevilisinthedetail Mon 08-Apr-13 20:09:44

Thanks thermal! I think so...really making me want to avoid Edward! Dh says it doesn't matter but I know he would call him Teddy and I would cringe as all a bit cutsey. This time round dh doesn't want to discuss name options with anyone else as we had some negative comments before George was born...so no one else to run it by!

Uppermid Mon 08-Apr-13 20:14:24

Well i have a Tilly and Meg, their names seems to work well and if I'd had a boy he'd have been a George!

KathySeldon Mon 08-Apr-13 20:14:28

Connie! That is my all time favourite name, but sounds ridiculous with our surname so dd is a Tilly!!

I also liked Clara, Cora and Tessa, but you can't have a Tilly and Tessa!!

So Connie for a dd, and Leo for a ds.

Good luck!

Uppermid Mon 08-Apr-13 20:15:13

I also like will for a boy but doesn't go with our surname

Bowlersarm Mon 08-Apr-13 20:18:30

I think it would be slightly better if you could take the 'y' bit out and called him Ted. Or would you consider nn Ned or Ed which takes the 'T' out as well. Would you shorten Elizabeth?

thedevilisinthedetail Mon 08-Apr-13 20:20:18

I still love Connie but struggling to convince dh. I like William but then Tilly and Will doesn't really flow...

thedevilisinthedetail Mon 08-Apr-13 20:23:51

Excellent taste Kathy! Also love Cora.

Tilly and Meg is a lovely combination. I really think we need something with a completely different feel to Tilly.

Ted might work better...we would shorten Elizabeth to Eliza.

SophiaTheFirst Mon 08-Apr-13 20:25:25

Oooo I know someone with a Tilly and a George, wondering if I know you now!

MERLYPUSS Mon 08-Apr-13 20:26:33

My gran was Constance Helen Grace (Connie Nelly Grace). Lovely names

thedevilisinthedetail Mon 08-Apr-13 20:30:53

How old are the Tilly and George you know Sophia?

Lovely name Merley!

KathySeldon Mon 08-Apr-13 20:33:30

Angus/Augustus with nn Gus or Gussy?

SophiaTheFirst Mon 08-Apr-13 20:34:08

George is in preschool, starts school in September and Tilly is older probably about year 2. I've always thought the names go really well together.

thedevilisinthedetail Mon 08-Apr-13 20:44:14

Ah, we're about two years behind that...but I do really love the names together and want something else that fits!

What do you think of Eliza/Connie ?

I quite like Angus...I do feel we need to go back to the drawing board on Teddy though!

thewarmestowl Mon 08-Apr-13 22:24:01

Tilly, George and Jenny (Jennifer)
Till, George and Helena
Tilly, George and Louisa
Tilly, George and Kit (Christopher)
Tilly, George and Hugo
Tilly, George and Peter
Tilly, George and Benjamin

I like Robin (boy) and think this goes fine with your other names (could you combine with Christopher and have a Christopher Robin? Please?) and Clara as suggested above. Your chlildren's names are lovely.

everlong Mon 08-Apr-13 22:34:29

Ooh I know a Tilly, George and Eli.

AgathaPinchBottom Mon 08-Apr-13 22:40:00

jojane Mon 08-Apr-13 22:41:46

My three are Matilda, George and Alfie

jojane Mon 08-Apr-13 22:44:38

Matilda's middle name is phoebe

KathySeldon Mon 08-Apr-13 22:59:22

My first thought when hearing your other names was Martha.

everlong Tue 09-Apr-13 11:02:22

Yes Martha would be lovely. Lucy and Alice are nice too.

wanderinglonelyasacloud Tue 09-Apr-13 17:36:27

I love your names, as well as Edward and Constance. Others could be....

Charlotte (lottie)

Frederick (Freddie)

Good luck!

wanderinglonelyasacloud Tue 09-Apr-13 17:39:19

P.s my personal feeling is that if the other two have a family middle name, thy all should! But that's just me....I'm a fan of two middle names and using family names as middle names.

emmyloo2 Wed 10-Apr-13 04:27:49

Oh gosh I love botyh those names. I wanted Edward for my George and if this baby was a boy, Edward was a front runner for me. I wouldn't worry about the nicknames too much because sometimes they don't stick so you might end up going with Eddie or Ed instead of Teddy.

Elizabeth is still on my list for DD due in 6 weeks time. However, we have been around and around in circles and still can't decide. I am just about to give up....

devonsmummy Wed 10-Apr-13 22:20:54

Tabitha & Henry

georgettemagritte Thu 11-Apr-13 00:46:12

With your other two I like:
Eliza / Elizabeth
Maud / Maudie

Ned for Edward
Frederick / Freddie

thedevilisinthedetail Thu 11-Apr-13 21:35:28

Thank you for all the lovely suggestions! I could agree in names with lots of you, it's finding something dh will agree on.

Martha is lovely but the name of my god daughter who is still a small baby. I really love Beatrice but our surname starts with a B too so might be a bit much. Also love Maude but Tilly is Matilda really so a but matching. But along the right lines. Also love Florence and Tabitha...both vetoed.

Liking Freddy and Hugo( but both are cousins) and absolutely adore Henry but dh says no...thought I'd done well with Edward being agreed but still worried he'd become Teddy...dh did suggest Theodore today but that's just Teddy by another route!

What do you think of Charles?

devonsmummy Thu 11-Apr-13 21:58:19

Charles works well with your other dc names (love Charlie too)

How about
Chester (heard this while out today)

thedevilisinthedetail Thu 11-Apr-13 22:17:54

Albert is a good thought.

ttcnumero3 Thu 11-Apr-13 23:06:21

Fwiw I know a Tilly, George and Ruby.....

thedevilisinthedetail Sun 02-Jun-13 08:59:47

Being induced with number three tomorrow. We had finally decided in Edward Oliver John or Elizabeth Joy Frances. DH was having the odd wobble about Elizabeth but basically all sorted. Then I got an email this morning from my cousin who is expecting her first in August and knows she is having a girl. She wants to announce their girls name at big family gathering today (different continent so not a major problem). Their girls name is Elizabeth. I don't really agree with reserving names and given we'd use Eliza I don't really mind. Don't yet know what she thinks add we haven't shared names and she'll still be asleep add is the middle of the night where she is. DH however got the baby book straight out...
We've both chosen Elizabeth as an important family name. Our mothers had babies 2 months apart years ago...same name wanted. My mum had her baby first and went with the name. Aunt is still annoyed she didn't get to user her first choice name. Should I just go got it, or change?

thedevilisinthedetail Sun 02-Jun-13 09:00:54

But I don't want to use either middle name so would be back to drawing board!

justhayley Sun 02-Jun-13 09:53:38

I would personally give DC3 3 names if the others have.
What are the other grandparents names/middle names?

I like Tilly, George and Heidi
Or Noah for a boy.

What was on your shortlist for Tilly & George? As it wasn't too long ago there must be names that on both that you & DH like?

justhayley Sun 02-Jun-13 09:56:28

Ruby actually sounds lovely
Ruby Elizabeth ...... B

Bowlersarm Sun 02-Jun-13 10:02:03

I would either ask your cousin if she minds you using it.

Or just go with Eliza as the full name.

CarriMarie Sun 02-Jun-13 11:25:52

I also think you should go with Eliza as first name as you intend to call her that, Eliza Frances Joy flows nicely.

Elquota Sun 02-Jun-13 14:22:36

The time to announce a baby's name is once he/she is born. Your baby is arriving first and you've already chosen Elizabeth, so stick with it smile It's your cousin who's doing things in an unusual order, not you (and presumably she knows she's making this announcement just as your baby is due?)

Exhaustipated Sun 02-Jun-13 15:11:28

Yes agree, don't let hour cousin change your name. Go ahead and then she can decide later what she wants to do.

Good luck and pls come back and update smile

miffybun73 Sun 02-Jun-13 15:45:17

Love Edward and Constance.

Also, Polly, Clara, Mabel, Amelia, Toby, Daniel, Emily, Philippa, Felicity...

farmersdaughter Sun 02-Jun-13 20:20:51

Did you reply the email? If not, just say after having the baby

'Oh just saw your email, what a coincidence'

Don't worry about it, my cousin has done the say thing to me. If I have a daughter she will be called Alexandra so please don't use that name. Get stuffed.

farmersdaughter Sun 02-Jun-13 20:23:38

Didn't mean to hit send.

You are in hospital having a baby, she doesn't know your having a baby today? Does she? So just say you didn't see her email.

farmersdaughter Sun 02-Jun-13 20:23:56

Good luck xxxx

vix206 Sun 02-Jun-13 20:27:52

My first thought for a name, when I saw Tilly and George, was Henry. Couldn't think of a girls name though - sorry!

Lulumouse Tue 04-Jun-13 10:50:51

PeterParkerSays Tue 04-Jun-13 10:53:15

When I read your title I thought:

Tilly, George and... Mabel

The M sound seems to work well with the set of names.

Having said that, Tilly, George and... Arthur woks well for a boy.

thedevilisinthedetail Wed 05-Jun-13 03:36:03

Edward Oliver John born 9.20 this evening so no problem on the girls name! Thank you for all your input!

Britchic Wed 05-Jun-13 06:59:27

Ah! Congratulations, and gorgeous name!
