Just looking for inspiration! Xxx

GetOrf Sat 12-Jan-13 00:59:55

Berengaria.

She was Queen of England.

I love it, and is the name of my imaginary baby. Bit grandiose though, would never use it in real life.

That or Artemisia.

Sabih Sat 12-Jan-13 02:34:26

My dds are Katienne (kat-ee-EN) and Alyssa (al-ISS-uh). I think they are beautiful grin

Astley Sat 12-Jan-13 09:04:08

Ariadne. Beautiful and classical.

I hate fruity or flowery names!

theodorerollabout Sat 12-Jan-13 09:04:22

Avia (ay-vee-ah)...I think it's gorgeous smile

Lorelei. Love it! And Jonquil.

DontmindifIdo Sat 12-Jan-13 09:04:40

My current favourite beautiful names are
Persephone
Genevieve

Currently pg but DH hates them both. I can't make him have a DC with a name he hates so they are both off the list. sad

Vagaceratops Sat 12-Jan-13 09:06:59

Ophelia.

I love Ophelia, but not in an english accent! The same with Fabienne, Merecedes, Aurelia etc.

Ooh I love Leila and Maryam too, but again English people seem to pronounce the coarsely.

JambalayaCodfishPie Sat 12-Jan-13 09:11:16

I love Adelaide.

There's an Adelaide Adams in the movie Calamity Jane, and I fell in love with it then.

Vagaceratops Sat 12-Jan-13 09:11:53

I also went to school with a girl called Laurianne (Lor ee ann) which I think is lovely.

Love Ophelia and Madeleine (but only the French version, not the German Madeline).

MrsMallett Sat 12-Jan-13 09:17:15

Ariadne is lovely and also Evelina

EwanHoozami Sat 12-Jan-13 09:19:23

I went to school with an Indian girl called Jaya which I thought was the most beautiful thing I'd ever heard.

lollydollydrop Sat 12-Jan-13 09:20:29

I once worked with an Italian girl called Lorella. I was enamored by her!

baskingseals Sat 12-Jan-13 09:21:51

Tatiana - i also think the nn Tati is really sweet. i have never met one.
at the moment i also love Rosa and Rose.

SchmancyPants Sat 12-Jan-13 09:26:17

Cordelia. It looks and sounds beautiful.

Bessie123 Sat 12-Jan-13 09:27:57

MyCatsRule Sat 12-Jan-13 09:33:34

Emmeline

TheSecondComing Sat 12-Jan-13 09:37:52

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

DontmindifIdo Sat 12-Jan-13 09:38:04

Bessie - well yes, she was Hades' wife, so queen of the shades - but she's also part of the spring story, when she returned from the underworld to the normal world, she brought spring and new shoots (her mother is the queen of the harvest, so they were both worshiped together for good crops).

But it's such a gorgeous name. (And I love the idea of a little girl with a nn Percy)

However, I have accepted it's not one of the names I like that DH just feels a bit "meh" about and I could work on him over (I'm having limited success with another couple of names), but he hates it - and it's not fair to insist on a name he really hates (rather than just isn't excited about).

<sigh> If I ever leave him and have a DD with someone else, then she'll be called Persephone. wink

(Of course, it's going to be a boy now after this!)

MadameJosephine Sat 12-Jan-13 09:39:28

Yy to Emmeline, love it. Also love Serendipity and Genevieve.

Oh and Jennifer, which just happens to be my beautiful DD's name

EwanHoozami Sat 12-Jan-13 09:51:58

Sorrel too.

I only find girls' names beautiful when you hear the full name - eg Eugenia Victoria Butler. Sometimes fairly plain names are glorious in combination.

Auriana
Annabel
Juliet
Juliana
Lydia
Susannah

meditrina Sat 12-Jan-13 10:08:51

I love (but DH vetoed) both Ariadne and Persephone!

sooperdooper Sat 12-Jan-13 10:28:52

I love Saoirse (irsh, sear-sha), and Zaria, and I do love Ophelia which is mentioned a few times alreay but I'd never use it, sad connortations sad

Polkadotfanatic Sat 12-Jan-13 12:00:49

Elowen, means elm tree in Cornish. I really want an Elowen Alice....

Or Poesy (pr. Posy) smile

Also love Ophelia, but like one poster said, in an English accent is not great...'I feel ya' hmm.

Dreadfully popular I know, but Florence is also gorgeous...

adelle283498 Sat 12-Jan-13 12:02:42

Alisvolatpropiis Sat 12-Jan-13 13:01:27

Hermione.

I did read somewhere that they think the generally accepted meaning for Persephone may be incorrect, something to do with the Ancient Greek language phonic system? Something like that.

alexpolismum Sat 12-Jan-13 13:05:10

Oh wow, several votes here for my dd's name!

For me, the most beautiful girl's name has to be

Ariadne

which is why I called my daughter that.

Ottilie

alexpolismum Sat 12-Jan-13 13:11:59

Alisvolatpropiis I have just looked up Persephone in my Greek etymological reference.

It says that there is some dispute between scholars about the provenance, as it seems earlier forms of the name have been found (Persefassa), suggesting a pre-Hellenic origin. It evolved into "Persephone", as this fitted better in the Greek language, and people gave it a Greek meaning, assuming a Greek origin, whereas in fact the meaning in its original language may have been quite different.

forgottenpassword Sat 12-Jan-13 13:12:00

Audrey
Elodie
Violet
Annie
Anais

HDee Sat 12-Jan-13 13:14:52

I love Cecily and Amelia and Annabel. I only have one daughter though, so have only used one of my names.

Savannahgirl Sat 12-Jan-13 13:20:16

Eloise - probably because I love The Damned's version of the song from the 1980's.

Alisvolatpropiis Sat 12-Jan-13 13:33:15

alexpolis that's it! I knew I'd read something about it but couldn't remember what had actually been said for the life of me smile

blue22 Sat 12-Jan-13 14:29:15

I met a beautiful girl called Christiana the other day - nice classic name with a twist

Welovecouscous Sat 12-Jan-13 14:30:56

Can't decide between:

Seraphina
Anastasia

Msbluesky32 Sat 12-Jan-13 14:43:37

Lydia

I love this name, very classic and romantic

Queazy Sat 12-Jan-13 15:16:26

I think Ophelia is beautiful too. I love the name Tabitha.

I'm really rather fond of Catherine. It has so many potential shortenings.

I also like saying Clarlinda. But I have to confess I got that from a headstone.

Octavia - very different to what I usually like and I'd never actually use it.

Artemis

Startail Sat 12-Jan-13 15:26:00

Eleonora, but it would just get shortened to Eli

SilveryMoon Sat 12-Jan-13 15:27:48

Evangeline

nickelbabe Sat 12-Jan-13 15:29:41

Lorian is beautiful.
it means moon maiden.

i also love Jessica

and i think Elizabeth is lovely, too
and Charlotte.

all these are not names i'd use for my own DDs, for various reasons (Charlotte is my sister's name)

insancerre Sat 12-Jan-13 15:29:47

Myfanwy
I love it, especially when said with a welsh ccent.
But, on the down side, it does look like my fanny when written down.
I also love Anastasia.

Mosman Sat 12-Jan-13 15:32:00

I love Annaleise and Francesca DH said no
I think my next imaginary child would be a Gabriella

SilveryMoon Sat 12-Jan-13 15:34:46

Sabih Katienne is beautiful! I can't stop saying it. feels lovely.

My favourite girls names are
Gretchen
Addison
Evangeline (like I said in my last post)

But, if we were ever to have a girl, it'd be Bethany or Rachel to match ds's biblical names. I suppose I could use Evangeline though. Would love to, although my fav girls name ever is Gretchen, but you asked for beautiful and Gretchen is not a beautiful name

HellsBellsHoratio Sat 12-Jan-13 15:39:56

Eppie is my favourite.

Abzs Sat 12-Jan-13 15:40:44

I know an Anissa. Very pretty, and suits her parents' need for it to work in six different languages.

ByTheWay1 Sat 12-Jan-13 15:41:01

I like Briony , Jemima and Tansy - pretty names...

Lauréline
Ophelia
Adeline
Adelaide
Violet
Angel
Myfanwy
Serafina
Emilia

Darmont Sat 12-Jan-13 15:50:53

Amielle ( ami elle). A girl in dd's class. Thought it was Amelie to start with but realised I'd read it wrong. Love Amelie but amielle even sweeter!

Jasbro Sat 12-Jan-13 15:55:21

Reading through this thread shows how very subjective names are - and why you really can't give two hoots what other people think!

MerylStrop Sat 12-Jan-13 15:59:34

I love Ariadne

I once met a little girl called Elvira, and whilst in normally circs you might think Addams family, she was just the fabulous vibrant little person and in that moment it seemed like the most beautiful name ever.

DD is the more prosaic but user-friendly Nina, which is more pretty than beautiful, I think

onthemetro Sat 12-Jan-13 16:00:33

I love Ava and Aurora. Planning to use them both on a future DD smile

Sabih Sat 12-Jan-13 16:05:01

Silvery thankyou. It's the maltese version of Katherine (dh is maltese) although the actual name is spelt Catienn but we preferred our spelling. Same pronunciation though.

Trousersrolled Sat 12-Jan-13 16:05:01

Rosalie
Soleil (French for sun, pronounced So-LAY)

Didn't get to use either, as had a ds!

TwoOfThree Sat 12-Jan-13 16:24:14

At the moment I really like Nova.
It means new, or in astrological terms its a star that suddenly burns brighter. And in American Indian it means 'Chases Buttrflies'
Not sure if OH will be keen but I love it!

TwoOfThree Sat 12-Jan-13 16:25:27

Also love Anais, Astrid Violet at Phoebe!

HalleLouja Sat 12-Jan-13 16:30:31

mumtobex Sat 12-Jan-13 16:42:45

Decided if mine is a girl I want to call her Katie summer :-) my other half wants a boy and has settled on the name Damian lol

JustAFewRory Sat 12-Jan-13 16:51:25

Seraphina

I love the name Florence, love flossy or florrie as a nn. Gabriella is also very pretty.

babyblabber Sat 12-Jan-13 17:13:39

Sophia. Have loved it all my life and now I have her!

Also love:
Rosa
Lola
Isabella (but hate izzie)

And my latest love is Amaya

GetOrf Sat 12-Jan-13 17:45:04

Sophia is a beautiful name (I have a daughter called sophia as well babyblabber).

The amount of bloody people who call her sophia, though (completely different dull sounding name imo)

GetOrf Sat 12-Jan-13 17:45:45

Call her Sophie, I meant to type.

Dysgu Sat 12-Jan-13 17:51:35

I am looking through these and hunting for inspiration.

I have a Florence Amelie and a Gabriella Eve already - both names I think are fabulously pretty. I even like the way they look when typed blush

But what to call DC3? Have you had any thoughts on all the suggestions, OP?

Ariadne is gorgeous.
Love Isobel.
Love Alice.
I think Naomi is beautiful - it sounds lovely and just seems to look really neat on the page too.
Love Marianne and Elinor.
Meredith
Melissa
Joy
Maeve

LineRunner Sat 12-Jan-13 17:51:52

Loralei, for some reason.

MadBusLady Sat 12-Jan-13 17:57:37

Athenais (with umlaut) nn Anais.

Not brave or French enough to use it though.

lollydollydrop Sat 12-Jan-13 17:59:56

At the moment I am loving:

Erica
Clara
Juliet
Tatiana
Eliza
Elodie
Ava
Evelyn
Ellen
Cora

Hmm seems I have a liking for the letter 'E' tonight! hmm

HalleLouja Sat 12-Jan-13 18:00:59

I have a name ending in A and often get called the version ending in E. Gets on my wick.

ImNotaPheasantPlucker Sat 12-Jan-13 18:03:28

Liberty
Gabriella
Josie
Caroline
Madeleine

lollydollydrop Sat 12-Jan-13 18:03:34

Oooh for the two ladies who said Meredith- I LOVE this name too!! It was on my list for a future DD but a year ago when I mentioned it to OH he wasnt keen, so we named our 8 month old Maine Coon Meredith instead LOL. She alwayys goes by Merry though as she honestly does not shut up purring, she is the most happy cat in the world! She started purring as soon as I picked her up and held her at her breeders house, and she hasnt shut up since!! grin

Is it weird if I called a human baby Meredith when our fur baby is Merry? Its weird, right? blush

lollydollydrop Sat 12-Jan-13 18:05:45

I love girls names ending in 'a' and I think the letter 'L' flows beautifully.

I was christened Laura and changed my name when I was 10 (with my parents consent, obviously) to include the letter 'o'. I love names with 'o' in them and am considering Noah and Phoebe for DC's

pinkandyellowbutterfly Sat 12-Jan-13 18:11:10

Lucy

BikeRunSki Sat 12-Jan-13 18:58:13

Lorelei, but I couldn't persuade DH when DD was born.

LentilAsAnything Sat 12-Jan-13 18:59:35

Ignoring any meanings which may be negative, I like the sound and look of:

Fabienne
Seraphine/a
Evangeline/a
Francesca
Samantha
Ottilie
Aurelia
Serendipity
Genevieve
Indiana
Tatiana

I have not included my top girls' names though, in case I have a daughter. Top secret, and don't want them getting any more popular.

CheerfulYank Sat 12-Jan-13 19:04:00

I love Aurelia. So beautiful!

I also love all the "sh" names...Saorise, Roisin. I shudder to think how they'd be pronounced where we live in Midwest America though!

Geranium3 Sat 12-Jan-13 19:35:41

daisy
isabel
anastasia

sparklechops Sat 12-Jan-13 19:39:50

NeverBeenToMe Sat 12-Jan-13 19:42:24

Another vote for Aurelia.

Used to be Evie, and I deeply like (?) Marnie - but I don't think it's a 'beautiful' name IYSWIM

Elvira
Emma
Tess
Tempany
Shaney (Shane-nee)
Anna
Eleanor/Elinor

When dd was born she was nameless for three days. In the end we had to compromise drastically. Dh wanted ruby but she had beautiful mahogany red hair when born and I said it'd be too cruel if she turned really red. She's blonde now. It's her middle name.

telsa Sat 12-Jan-13 19:58:48

Antigoni
Juliet
Vivienne
Dolores

Trinpy Sat 12-Jan-13 20:07:12

Another vote for Vivienne. I think Vivi would be such a cute nickname for a baby too. Will probably choose either Vivienne, Ingrid or Zsofia for any future dd.

I think Charlotte is beautiful but hate Charlie for a girls nn.

pumpkinsweetieMasPudding Sat 12-Jan-13 20:13:44

Persephone is great but I got really put off it after hearing a colleague pronouncing it incorrectly. Really wanted to correct her as all the children were doing it as well. Grrr....lol.
Ideal name if your next child will be called Florence.

My all time fav is Demelza - ok, I admit, I was a Poldark fan and loved Angharad Rees' character - feisty and gorgeous.

DH firmly ruled it out completely for dd and she is Kathryn/Kate (sorry, loathe Katie).

But I'd never use any of them, because I think a woman is better served by a sensible name in real life.

expatinscotland Sat 12-Jan-13 20:49:54

Margetta or Jacquetta.

GirlOutNumbered Sat 12-Jan-13 20:51:40

Breagha (Bree-a), is Gaelic for beautiful. I think it's a lovely sounding word.
I've always liked Elise.

expatinscotland Sat 12-Jan-13 21:06:37

When DD1 was alive, she met a French girl in Schiphol airport who was called Faustine. Sounded lovely.

Loving Esther Joy. Great name.

Anonymumous Sat 12-Jan-13 21:50:05

My daughter's name is the most drop-dead gorgeous name I have ever heard in my life. I am actually jealous of her for having such a stunningly beautiful name. Said out loud, it sounds like a princess's name, and written down it makes me drool - I could stare at it for hours! blush I can't type it here because it's too unusual and someone might identify me. But her first name has already been mentioned here a few times - so it's not just me! grin

GetOrf Sat 12-Jan-13 21:54:41

Oooh Athenais is absolutely lovely, as is Faustine. Never heard of those before.

I would say Persephone too - beautiful story to back it up to. I also really love Tacita but it apparently mean 'silent' so not a great choice for a baby.

I love Nuala
Rowan

Mollyminder Sat 12-Jan-13 23:55:06

Please just aoid the very overdone -ie,-y or -i endings for names. Soooo bored of them.!!!

ScrambledSmegs Sun 13-Jan-13 00:16:56

Actually, I think Rhiannon is beautiful. Mainly because of Fleetwood Mac grin

I'm very pleased to see one of my kids' names mentioned more than once grin

For me there's a world of a difference between what I think is the most beautiful name ever, and what I'd actually name a child. I very much like Valentina and Ariadne but living in deepest darkest Glasgow, there's not a chance they'd sound as beautiful as I'd intended!

cece Sun 13-Jan-13 00:35:46

Anastasia
Anna
Helen
Thea
Althea
Esme
Verity
Annie
Una

All lovely imo. DD is one of the above names. My name is also mentioned by someone else. I am very surprised as it is very much out of favour these days but I like it.

Wetthemogwai Sun 13-Jan-13 00:41:12

barbiecollector I thought that was how you did pronounce Persephone - I wondered how most people would pronounce it incorrectly.

alexpolismum Sun 13-Jan-13 13:15:11

Per-SEFF-oh-nee = normal English pronunciation

Per-seh-FON-ee = normal Greek pronunciation

HTH

Ahh so I have been pronouncing it incorrectly all this time - curse you classical background teacher of 1979 smile

alexpolismum Sun 13-Jan-13 13:28:27

how have you been saying it, exactly, Sarf?

BoyMeetsWorld Sun 13-Jan-13 13:48:11

Aurora, Roberta or Odette.

Not allowed to use any of them confused

Clawdy Sun 13-Jan-13 14:04:46

Fritha. It's Anglo-Saxon.Never had courage to use it as everyone said it sounded odd with our surname.sad

Per SEFF o nee

I really like Persephone books so shudder at how many times I have talked about them and pronounced them wrongly. First world problems eh!

insancerre Sun 13-Jan-13 15:06:17

my name is on this thread
strange that I don't consider it to be a beautiful name
I don't dislike it, it's just my name

LittleDonkin Sun 13-Jan-13 18:02:52

I am 6 weeks pg with DC2 and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name Seraphina if I have another DD but I feel it will make DD1's 2 syllable name seem boring in comparison so I am going to use it as her middle name if I have another DD.

I think old fashioned/classic names are beautiful - particularly:

Eve
Juliette
Rachel
Rebecca
Sarah

And I love that you generally can't 'age' people by those kind of names.

As in they're rarely 'in' or 'out' particularly smile

I know a beautiful Tara. A strong yet pretty name imo and not overused which is refreshing.
