Hello! First time mum age 23 - new to this so don't understand the abbreviations i've seen on other posts!

Never thought it would be so hard to find a name i like!

I want something quirky but girly and not too common... Also looking for a modern name!

Names i like the sound of but not sure at they are for me are...

Middle name would either be Mae (due in May) or Lily (my favourite flower)

I know its my choice but none of my family like those names - so its now a secret until i find the perfect name for my princess!

Any name suggestions/opinions would be appreciated!
Robyn x

I am expecting my 2nd baby and with my first I trawled through baby name books and me and my hubby wrote lists of the names we liked and believe it or not we had written completely different names and the only name we both wrote is what we named our daughter!

StellaNova Sat 05-Jan-13 20:52:54

I like Coraline the best. Other ideas for quirky yet girly - Audrey, Linnet, Pearl?

StellaNova Sat 05-Jan-13 20:54:09

Sorry, I missed modern - ignore me!

both Mae and Lily are V popular as middle names

I love Coraline

mellowcat Sat 05-Jan-13 21:10:36

The names you have are very pretty.

HappyAsASandboy Sat 05-Jan-13 21:11:12

Coraline is beautiful smile

I would go for Coraline May (I prefer May to Mae, particularly if it is because of the month).

MoelFammau Sat 05-Jan-13 21:18:20

I love Piper Lily.

chewingguminmyhair Sat 05-Jan-13 21:21:00

Coraline May or Liberty May.

I too prefer May to Mae.

JustBabyNMe Sat 05-Jan-13 21:21:23

All your suggestions are so helpful & inspiring! I come from a large family so wanted a middle name that doesn't associate with family - that way no arguments or quarrels from the family!!

I do like Coraline i also like Coralie! That's lovely!!

I've scoured the net & books and even though there are so many beautiful names none are appealing to me!

I'm being put off Coraline as none of the family like it & its the only name i've mentioned!

I love Quinn but with the surname Hill i have to be careful... Other names i liked were Holly & Amber but they sound stupid with Hill!!

TameGaloot Sat 05-Jan-13 21:22:59

Coraline may would be nice

TameGaloot Sat 05-Jan-13 21:24:00

Emmeline tsk

chewingguminmyhair Sat 05-Jan-13 21:24:37

OP - this is why you don't tell people which names you want! If you don't tell them, they can't say they don't like it. Stick to discussing it with your partners grin

Lucy411 Sat 05-Jan-13 21:26:38

Finlay smile

JollyToddles Sat 05-Jan-13 21:26:58

I agree with Chewinggum. We didn't tell anyone our suggestions until DS was born then it was "here is our child. His name is X". It is difficult for them to disagree when they've been presented with a cuddly newborn.

chewingguminmyhair Sat 05-Jan-13 21:34:35

Whoops, *partner not partners! Unless of course you have more than one smile

Mumsnet are honest re names but I think it's easier if strangers tell you they don't like one.

JustBabyNMe Sat 05-Jan-13 21:34:39

Didn't think of that before as a single parent wanted to share ideas with mum - clearly not a good idea!

Ahh! Never knew names would be so hard!!

chewingguminmyhair Sat 05-Jan-13 21:35:24

Stick with Mumsnet then OP wink

JustBabyNMe Sat 05-Jan-13 21:46:14

It's not modern but how about Jessica (Jessica Lily) i don't thats overly common anymore or India need a middle name thoughts on these? smile

amck5700 Sat 05-Jan-13 21:54:33

You are already called my daughter's name grin but her middle name is Katie. Do you like that?

JustBabyNMe Sat 05-Jan-13 22:03:51

I have a cousin katie!! My problem with a big family!!

Thanks for the suggestion though!!

MustafaCake Sat 05-Jan-13 22:17:02

Coraline is absolutely gorgeous!

LIberty and leonie also very nice.

How about:

And don't share any of your names with friends and family, they will always say yuk to your names just because there is something they like better. She is your baby so choose something you like!

Hellokitt Sat 05-Jan-13 22:17:35

Rhubarbgarden Sat 05-Jan-13 22:22:26

I love Coraline.

How about Luna?

Hello,OP, have you name changed half way through? Are you also JustBabyNMe if so, I think alliteration is good in a name, ie Holly Hill is fine,
I knew a Sally Straw once and she was brill!

Ficidy Sat 05-Jan-13 22:47:11

I love Coraline! It's different and that's probably why your mum and family don't like it. People often stick their noses up at unusual names if they're traditionalists. Coralie is also nice!

You've lovely taste in names, have faith in your choice and don't tell anyone until the baby is born!

bananaramma Sat 05-Jan-13 23:03:39

I think Coraline is lovely. Elegant, feminine and not overused.
I only know boys named Quinn and find it very masculine.

DessieLou Sat 05-Jan-13 23:09:09

I've just had my first and she was nameless for 2 days. Our favourites didn't suit her so I'd say draw up a list and wait to see what your little one looks like.
I'm not so keen on coraline but really like coralie. Liberty is definitely not my cup of tea although I do like the nn libby. Leonie is nice. How about Rosalie? Or Cora?

DessieLou Sat 05-Jan-13 23:19:36

Or how about Ariella Mae?

AuntieShirley Sun 06-Jan-13 00:53:44

I am not that great at modern, but I think some of these have a modern, fresh feminine feel to them even though they are not modern names. How about

Any of those any good?
I love Coraline from your list.

I loved Coraline but know they know perhaps i should change it to Coralie ! Ive neer heard that beefore and less likely to get confused with Caroline? That way i can still call her Cora for short!

My MIL (mother in law)'s middle name is May, because she was born in May. I also know people with first names Avril and June, for similar reasons. They've all been a bit miffed all their lives that their parents were not more imaginative (although also quite relieved that they were not born in say, November).

EssieW Sun 06-Jan-13 13:59:53

Leonie is brilliant. Strong, yet cool and still pretty. I know a leonie - feisty, independent and caring person. If I hadn't been working with her at the time, I'd have used that name but it would have looked wierd then.

farmersdaugther Sun 06-Jan-13 14:23:16

What about:
Dixie Mae

I was also going to suggest Indigo Lily, would be very pretty.

Or just call her Lily.

NaturalBaby Sun 06-Jan-13 15:08:26

Are you going to call your baby Coralie?! Ooooo, am excited, I suggested that one! grin

JustBabyNMe Sun 06-Jan-13 16:09:07

Hehe! I'm not sure yet! Still a while til due date... I do like it though smile

I love Lily as a first name and also grace but the girl i work with who im very good friends with - her 2 girls are called that! sad

I see what you mean about not very imaginative...
Any ideas to go with

Coraline or India?

I don't want a family related middle name... I know you don't need ome but i want her to have one smile

amck5700 Sun 06-Jan-13 16:13:07

India Blue
India Bo
Coraline Sophia
Coraline Liliana

OkayHazel Sun 06-Jan-13 16:36:13

Coraline is too like the Tim Burton film for my taste.

Love India though! And China come to think of it.
Big fan of place names.

Maybe choose a less common flower name if you like Lily - Peonie and Posy are my favourites!

mija1 Sun 06-Jan-13 19:08:03

Coraline is a nice name.
Coralina also
