Old English spelling of 'Peony'

Unusual flower name....too frilly?

Thoughts?

RooneyMara Tue 04-Dec-12 10:36:01

It's beautiful in theory but does make me think of pee. So sorry blush

It looks lovely written down though

(this from someone who dreamed about caling twin girls Celery and Violet)

hatebeak Tue 04-Dec-12 10:49:43

I can see it's appeal but it's unfortunately a bit too penile/urinary for comfort, I think. Sorry.
Peony isn't quite as bad for some reason, but still, same problems apply.

hatebeak Tue 04-Dec-12 10:50:23

Bad apostrophe there, so maybe my opinion should be discounted anyway!

sugarandspite Tue 04-Dec-12 10:51:56

She will be forever known as Pee On Me.

Please don't do it!

It's an unusual flower name to give a girl for a reason.

FriggFRIGG Tue 04-Dec-12 11:10:33

Ahh,see, and thats why you must ask MN first wink

I knew there must've been a reason it was rare....pee-on-me did not occur to me...

sugarandspite Tue 04-Dec-12 11:18:53

<twirls and takes a bow for acknowledgment of smutty mind>

louisoscar Tue 04-Dec-12 14:03:15

I also can't help but think of 'pony' when I read it which is slightly less bad but also not a connotation you probably want...!

squoosh Tue 04-Dec-12 14:46:12

Too frilly? Nope, too penisy.

Seriously, you cannot name your child Peonie!

printmeanicephoto Tue 04-Dec-12 16:52:47

Too weeish for me too

Viviennemary Tue 04-Dec-12 16:55:05

No. The nicknames will be horrific.

MolotovCocktail Tue 04-Dec-12 17:39:21

It's a fabulous word; I adore the flower.

But yes, poor chick will be known as 'Pee On Me' sad

Polkadotfanatic Tue 04-Dec-12 18:09:48

My favourite flower and a beautiful looking word, but, as everyone else says -as a name...it lends itself to unfortunate nicknames.

How about Posy...gorgeous smile

botandhothered Tue 04-Dec-12 18:44:17

It's Peonia in Spanish. Would that be better? Pronouced pee on ee ah. In English would be pronounced pee own ee ah?

kerala Tue 04-Dec-12 20:12:46

"Pee on me" didnt occur to you because you are not a 6 year old boy grin but your DD will be spending time with them so....dont do it!

bamboostalks Tue 04-Dec-12 20:44:01

What about Leonie?

HenriettaTurkey Tue 04-Dec-12 20:50:43

Peonie = pee on me
Peonia = pee on ya.

Such a shame but there it is...

How about Paloma or Naomi? They have the same feel IMO.

Alternatively there are lots of beautiful floral names out there.

Although I'd avoid clematis too wink

FriggFRIGG Tue 04-Dec-12 21:16:22

I like Paloma

<scribbles on list>

ripsishere Tue 04-Dec-12 22:10:51

Good. Sense has prevailed.

PickledInAPearTree Tue 04-Dec-12 22:19:02

I thought pee on me too.

Glad I'm not the only one with such a dirty mind!

OkayHazel Wed 05-Dec-12 01:25:07

Posie/Posy instead?

lottiegarbanzo Thu 06-Dec-12 17:09:35

A friend pronounced this flower as pee-nee, which just sounded like weeny penis I'm afraid.

squoosh Thu 06-Dec-12 17:10:49

Paloma is lovely.
