Emma

Gabriel
Alexander
Joseph

Frontpaw Mon 03-Dec-12 16:58:49

Chardonnay or Wayne.

Bue Mon 03-Dec-12 17:02:55

Boy will be George or William. Girl will be Alice or Mary. You heard it here first.

Bue Mon 03-Dec-12 17:03:18

I meant George or Edward, not William!

NewKateMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 03-Dec-12 17:06:40

We've made a cheeky facebook poll, http://www.facebook.com/mumsnet, you can vote for your favourite there!

MsFlippingHeck Mon 03-Dec-12 17:08:20

Victoria

SurreyWithAFringeOnTop Mon 03-Dec-12 17:08:28

I think the boy will be George, Albert or Arthur. Girl will be Alice, Alexandra, Victoria or Mary. As future monarch, it will have to be a traditional royal name I think.

Frontpaw Mon 03-Dec-12 17:11:42

Do you think Diana will be in the mix?

isobel
lucy

andrew <<where they met>>

FellatioNelson Mon 03-Dec-12 17:13:33

Ok, the best thing to do is eliminate a few names first on the basis of others already having used them recently.

So we won't have:

William, Henry,

Alice, Summer and Savannah grin

FellatioNelson Mon 03-Dec-12 17:13:59

YY to Diana, deffo, but probably not for a first name.

FellatioNelson Mon 03-Dec-12 17:14:30

I would plump for Rihanna Gaga. Very current.

forevergreek Mon 03-Dec-12 17:16:46

Elizabeth Diana

FellatioNelson Mon 03-Dec-12 17:17:04

What they often do is use a first name that is suitable for king and then have them known as their second name.

Arthur could be in there. I hope not Albert though. Urrgh.

Victoria = boring.

I actually think Elizabeth Mary will be the favourite. Both are lovely and pretty fashionable right now.

Caoimhe Mon 03-Dec-12 17:17:15

For a girl:
1. Victoria
2. Alexandra
3. Mary
4. Louise

For a boy, maybe George?

FellatioNelson Mon 03-Dec-12 17:17:43

Ooh yes! Elizabeth Diana Mary

Bue Mon 03-Dec-12 17:22:29

Who are Alice and Summer? confused

My bet is on Elizabeth Diana as the middle names.

EssieW Mon 03-Dec-12 17:24:23

Elizabeth for a girl. Poss Victoria but Elizabeth would be better with our current queen. I think Elizabeth would be the reigning name.

Middle names - Diana and maybe some more unusual ones.

Please not alice (do not want any more popularity for that name...)

Boys - George? Depends on what Charles and William see themselves reigning as. Henry would be a interesting choice.

Minnieheehee Mon 03-Dec-12 17:24:48

Bloody hope they don't pick Alexandra for a girl- that's my first choice if we manage to get preggers this year!

Bue Mon 03-Dec-12 17:30:50

I don't think they will be "doing" regnal names anymore, surely? It just seems so anachronistic. I mean, Elizabeth thought it was a ridiculous idea 60 years ago that she might choose a name that wasn't her own.

FellatioNelson Mon 03-Dec-12 17:31:08

Alice is Edward's daughter, and whoops, I meant Autumn and Savannah, not Summer and Savannah! (Peter Phillips's wife and daughter)

FellatioNelson Mon 03-Dec-12 17:31:40

Got me seasons in a muddle. confused

FellatioNelson Mon 03-Dec-12 17:32:47

It would be lovely if they picked something totally different and un-used previously, although it would have to be regal sounding, obviously.

Bonsoir Mon 03-Dec-12 17:35:15

This is a future monarch, so it's going to be some boring traditional name. Victoria? George?

<yawns>

Rwep Mon 03-Dec-12 17:36:48

Gosh if they have a girl the Diana/ not Diana decision will employ the whole PR/politics industry

Caoimhe Mon 03-Dec-12 17:39:43

What about Richard for a boy, a la Richard the Lionheart? (Sadly Richard ii and Richard iii were not people you'd name anyone after!)

Caroline for a girl? Isn't Kate's mum called Carol?

Diana will deffo be a middle name for a girl. I think Elizabeth is too obvious as a first name but will be a middle name instead.

forevergreek Mon 03-Dec-12 17:43:05

They have about 6 names anyway don't they usually, so can put them all in pretty much ( it's just what order)

stifnstav Mon 03-Dec-12 17:43:13

Carole. Definitely.

<runs off to betting shop with the window cleaner's money>

InTheBoonies Mon 03-Dec-12 17:45:28

My guess Adelaide Mary Diana for a girl

Not sure for a boy. I think it'll be a girl!

Alisvolatpropiis Mon 03-Dec-12 17:46:18

I think William said Diana would be used if it was a girl in an interview ages ago. Probably as a middle name.

For a girl it's likely to be Elizabeth,Victoria,Alexandra,Charlotte. Lovely though Isobel and Olivia are, they're not exactly traditionally Royal names are they. The only reason the Queen has granddaughters called Autunn and Savannah is because the father is untitled and thoroughly disinterested in being Royal per se. Princess Anne's son, whose name evades me.

For a boy George,Arthur, Albert and um...all the others are in use currently aren't they?

ChippyMinton Mon 03-Dec-12 17:47:37

Tut tut NewKateMumsnet - proper linky to poll please wink

Caoimhe Mon 03-Dec-12 17:48:27

Adelaide is an interesting idea!

Or maybe Philippa, after the wife of Edward III, she of the Burghers of Calais story.

HyvaPaiva Mon 03-Dec-12 17:49:59

Prince Charles always said he had 'reserved' the name Victoria should he have a daughter. I think that William and Catherine will use it if they have a girl. She'd then be Queen Victoria II which sounds fitting.

For a son, perhaps George, for no other reason than it has been used for Kings in the recent past and isn't in use by any immediate royal relatives at the moment. King George VII could follow the Queen's grandfather and father (although he was really called Albert).

whistlestopcafe Mon 03-Dec-12 17:52:17

I think Philip or Helen.

EdithWeston Mon 03-Dec-12 17:54:14
GlaikitFizzogTheChristmasElf Mon 03-Dec-12 17:59:02

Frances

FellatioNelson Mon 03-Dec-12 17:59:54

Oh God, I do hope it's not Adelaide. It's bloody horrible.

legojunkie Mon 03-Dec-12 18:03:14

Won't be Philippa.

Inertia Mon 03-Dec-12 18:04:08

Maybe they'll go for something Welsh as a middle name, as they are living on Anglesey and he'll eventually be Prince of Wales? Maybe Huw for a boy?

Elizabeth Diana would be safe middle name bets for a girl I reckon.

First name sure to be something traditional - George or Albert after the Queen's father maybe.

Caoimhe Mon 03-Dec-12 18:04:13

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden came over all radical and called her daughter Estelle. I think I'd prefer Queen Adelaide to Queen Estelle!!!

Badvocsanta Mon 03-Dec-12 18:07:12

Elizabeth
Alexandra
Victoria
Mary

George
Albert
Arthur
Edward

Caoimhe Mon 03-Dec-12 18:12:10

Gah, of course it won't be Philippa! I forgot about her sister!!

There haven't been many Queens Regnant to nick names from - Matilda was never really Queen and Anne is out, which only leaves Mary, Elizabeth and Victoria.

You need to look at Consorts for good names.

LadyofWinterfell Mon 03-Dec-12 18:12:46

Edward's daughter is called Louise, not Alice. She is Louise Alice Elizabeth Mary.

George Louis Charles or maybe Anne Elizabeth Rose?

FellatioNelson Mon 03-Dec-12 18:14:04

Oh so she is. I am getting it wrong all over the shop. grin

Badvocsanta Mon 03-Dec-12 18:20:39

Jane?
Margaret?
Georgina? (Diana's ancestor?)

GlaikitFizzogTheChristmasElf Mon 03-Dec-12 18:23:18

Where are the just back from? Think it might be a holiday baby! Mauritius? Maurice or Maureen grin

GlaikitFizzogTheChristmasElf Mon 03-Dec-12 18:24:26

Plain and simple go for Jane.

Caoimhe Mon 03-Dec-12 18:37:10

Edward III had a son called Lionel and a son-in-law called Enguerrand - anybody fancy placing bets on either of those names?

Selky Mon 03-Dec-12 18:45:17

David for a boy

Charlotte for a girl Or Alexandra.

GlaikitFizzogTheChristmasElf Mon 03-Dec-12 18:46:08

Matilda and Edith crop up quite a bit!

Caoimhe Mon 03-Dec-12 18:46:19

What about Amelia? It was the name of the youngest daughter of George III.

RobinsBaubleSparkles Mon 03-Dec-12 18:47:26

Chantelle-Demi Chardonay for a girl

And

Kayden-Brayden Jayden for a boy.

JuliaScurr Mon 03-Dec-12 18:53:03

Robins grin

we3kingsoforientRaahh Mon 03-Dec-12 18:53:22

I like the idea of Caroline, a nod to Kate's mother and the feminine form of Charles. Perfect!

Cwtchbach Mon 03-Dec-12 18:53:39

I think it could be something Welsh maybe. They live in North Wales and I noticed they both sang the Welsh national anthem at the rugby the other day so maybe a nod to Wales somewhere in there. I was also going to suggest Adelaide which I love and secretly hope they won't call a girl that smile

JuliaScurr Mon 03-Dec-12 18:55:17

Karen
Craig

we3kingsoforientRaahh Mon 03-Dec-12 18:56:29

Maybe Andrew will feature as a middle name, after St Andrew's where they met ? <tenuous>

<wonders where MiniWillKat was conceived, for 'Brooklyn' style possibilities>

forevergreek Mon 03-Dec-12 18:57:34

I think for a boy the first name wot be one of the main names ( Charles/ George/ Henry)

Leonard/ leopold / Lionel
Sebastian
Arthur
Maximilian
Alexander
Edward
Augustus
Magnus

GlaikitFizzogTheChristmasElf Mon 03-Dec-12 18:57:51

Guinevere smile

we3kingsoforientRaahh Mon 03-Dec-12 18:58:07

(I bet some hack has already got his back issues out to workout whereabouts Will and Kate have been over the past three monthgrin)

Viviennemary Mon 03-Dec-12 19:01:29

I'd go for Alice, Elizabeth or Diana for a girl. And for a boy George, Albert or maybe even Arthur.

Yellowtip Mon 03-Dec-12 19:01:41

Yes it was obv a holiday baby. Queen Maureen would be great. Move with the times etc.

Bound to be Queen Carole though, in deference. So retrograde sad

Why is she in hospital for mornng sickness? Is that normal? I just moaned.

Jojobells1986 Mon 03-Dec-12 19:02:58

They can't have Elizabeth. I forbid it. I'm due first & I refuse to have a child with the same name as theirs born within weeks of each other. If they choose to name their child after mine then I shall bill them for the cost of changing the name. wink

we3kingsoforientRaahh Mon 03-Dec-12 19:03:06

Aww, my late mil who died in February was Maureen Elizabeth. It would be nice of Will and Kate to honour her memorygrin

GlaikitFizzogTheChristmasElf Mon 03-Dec-12 19:04:12

Yellow, you have just committed the cardinal sin! Hg is not just morning sickness. You might need this <hand hard hat> smile

Jojobells1986 Mon 03-Dec-12 19:06:16

Also, they can't have Alice. That's our middle name! Don't quite know how we ended up with so many royal names in our family! confused

jaffacakehips Mon 03-Dec-12 19:27:16

Charlotte Diana Elizabeth Alice

Or

Arthur Michael Charles Henry

grin

GalaxyDisaster Mon 03-Dec-12 19:30:32

She's not yellowtips, it's HG. It's an extremely serious pregnancy complication and, before drips, people sometimes died of it sad.

Moaning about morning sickness is normal though smile

scottishmummy Mon 03-Dec-12 19:34:04

i dont care about naming a privileged royal baby,
i will leave that to those who like prole food and royal stories
you can all gush your way through her pg

PerksOfBeingNorthern Mon 03-Dec-12 19:34:45

Top 3 for each:
George
Arthur
Alfred

Alexandra
Charlotte
Rose

I like the university connection but they just can't name him Andrew because of the Duke of York shock
Isla is also out - Peter and Autumn's second daughter
I'm thinking traditional with a nod to family... hmm Caroline Diana Elizabeth?? or James Phillip Henry?? grin

GlaikitFizzogTheChristmasElf Mon 03-Dec-12 19:39:55

James is out, he is eddies son, viscount Severn

Badvocsanta Mon 03-Dec-12 20:33:22

Charlotte
Henrietta
Arabella

Part1 Mon 03-Dec-12 20:47:32

I think they will go for something biblical but not used for past royals, Samuel or Sarah perhaps.

TigerFeet Mon 03-Dec-12 20:52:43

I'm rather liking slartybartfast's choices.

Excellent names, chosen by excellent people <nods>

indeed tigerfeet grin
excellent wink

i was going for a scottish theme, as this is where they met, isobel/andrew but dont know where the lucy came from

Girl: Margaret Alice affectionatley known as Alice

Boy: Thomas Henry

Earl Spencer (Diana's brother/Will's uncle) and his wife named their daughter, born in July of this year Charlotte, so I think that could potentially put that one off the table. Maybe not, but I suspect they wouldn't want to repeat a family name so soon, even if it is the "other side" of Will's family.

If it is a girl, it won't be Diana, not as a first name, (a) because it's not a traditional royal name and (b) because she'd forever be compared to Diana. William wouldn't want that for his (potential) daughter.

Queen Victoria left one hell of a legacy, and history teaches us she was a formidable monarch, and one wonders if the name is a lot to live up to. If they have a girl first, perhaps this might sway them from the name.

For a girl, my money is on Margaret, after the Queen's beloved sister, or indeed Elizabeth after the Queen. That also honours Catherine and Carole (both have it as their middle name).

For a boy, I think maybe George, or perhaps Alfred.

Colyngbourne Tue 04-Dec-12 10:08:42

"Sadly Richard ii and Richard iii were not people you'd name anyone after!)"

I named my first son after Richard III (as did the actor Richard Armitage's parents) and my other children have names connected with Richard III and his immediate family - read Josephine Tey's "The Daughter of Time" or more recently, Annette Carson's "The Maligned King": 'Richard' deserves a renaissance in the baby-name stakes. (Richard II wasn't as bad a king as is made out, either!)

I suspect for W and K, George will be the name for a boy, possibly Victoria or Alice/Mary for a girl.

Yellowtip Tue 04-Dec-12 10:15:47

Good old scottishmummy smile I really hope they don't pinch a Scottish name at least; it would be terriby faux.

Thanks for the hard hat Glaikit, I think I need it more on the other thread grin.

No disrespect to hg sufferers; I do understand it's dreadful. But does Kate really have it? Does it strike literally overnight at 6 weeks or so? Maybe it does.

ivanapoo Tue 04-Dec-12 10:55:43

Georgiana or Isabella for a girl; Arthur or Albert for a boy.

How about:

Jessica Barbara or

Christopher Issac?

Ebb Tue 04-Dec-12 11:10:51

Alexandra Elizabeth Diana for a girl and George Henry Charles for a boy.

Gwennan Tue 04-Dec-12 11:45:29

For a girl, Adelaide or Augusta.

For a boy, Albert or George.

Bearandcub Tue 04-Dec-12 11:49:30

I've said before but I'll say it again.... Rylan

Barry for a boy

Jean for a girl

Good solid British names (I think, I may be wrong about Jean)

SneezySnatcher Tue 04-Dec-12 18:50:06

Not George. That is what this DC is going to be called. I'm due before her and I will be very annoyed if he ends up as one of five in his class because of Wills and Kate.

<stamps foot>

<goes to find a grip>

Yellowtip Tue 04-Dec-12 19:00:43

Absolutely not Jean. Neither are Scots. Or only minutely.

But is there a family tree of Kate's anywhere around on the internet? It would be so good if they could pick a name from her side instead of going for the obvious names from his. That just reinforces the fact that she's perceived to be inferior because of her background and class. I hope they pick a really unusual name for royals from her side. Something much more striking than Princess Carole or Prince Mike. There must be something even more catchy in her history than that.

IShallCallYouSquishy Tue 04-Dec-12 19:08:43

Surely they can't use Albert? Prince Albert anyone?

Other then that I have no contribution grin

That's a shame, a friend had a very happy cat called Jean. They also had Mike the reasonably content cat too so Prince Mike would be ok.

Failing that I reckon they should go really retro with Alfred, Harold or Stephen. Or Matilda for a girl.

Yellowtip Tue 04-Dec-12 21:29:10

I had a very quick google while I was making supper but I could only find a Kate family tree where I had to pay. Might have to settle on Mike.

flowerygirl Mon 17-Dec-12 18:10:54

If it's a boy, I think it will be called Arthur...I can feel it in my waters!

EtoilesPleinLesYeux Mon 17-Dec-12 19:09:38

Isn't cameron's son called Arthur?

EtoilesPleinLesYeux Mon 17-Dec-12 19:12:48

George or David or Alfred for a boy
Elizabeth or Victoria or Helena for a girl

Diana would be magnificent, that would piss everyone off so much.

CruCru Mon 17-Dec-12 20:39:12

You know that the Queen gets to veto their choice if she doesn't like it? That's what happened with one of Fergie's original choices.

It won't be:
Jane
Mary
John

They were all tragic monachs (Lady Jane Grey, Bloody Mary etc).

I would be surprised if they used Elizabeth as the current queen is still alive.

CruCru Mon 17-Dec-12 20:47:17

Even if they give their DC a particular name, it doesn't mean they'll use it as monach. Charles is rumoured to plan to be King George (as Charles 1 was beheaded and Charles II was a playboy).

PickledInAPearTree Mon 17-Dec-12 20:49:31

Queenie

EtoilesPleinLesYeux Mon 17-Dec-12 21:14:57

Why the hell did the queen call him Charles in the first place?

CruCru Mon 17-Dec-12 21:22:31

Well, I think what a monach calls themself is up to them.

iheartmycat Mon 17-Dec-12 23:55:01

I'm convinced Caroline is going to be in there somewhere. But equally convinced they're going to go for something 'non-royally', like Emily! So maybe

Sophia Caroline Diana (known as Beth or Libby)

Louis Philip Arthur Michael

iheartmycat Mon 17-Dec-12 23:55:48

oops thought i'd written elizabeth as the first name!!

sashh Tue 18-Dec-12 07:08:18

Boy - will have George and Arthur in it, probably Philip too, maybe Charles.

Girl - will have Ezabeth in it, probably Mary and maybe Margret

It won't be:
Jane
Mary
John

Both the Queen and Beatrice have Mary as a middle name, the queen's grandmother was Mary.

I think maybe Angela - it's not common and one or the QM's names

EtoilesPleinLesYeux Tue 18-Dec-12 07:23:45

We can't have a king Louis.

MrsHBaby3 Tue 18-Dec-12 11:56:40

I don't think Diana will be in the mix, that's a bit creepy! Kate already wears her ring
I think Victoria Alexandria for a girl or Thomas Arthur for a boy smile

flowerygirl Tue 18-Dec-12 16:26:26

King Tom? I can't see it myself!

I find Diana for their baby a bit creepy too, but they should totally do it, the public would go nuts and Daily Mail would have a field day!

PickledInAPearTree Tue 18-Dec-12 16:31:48

King Kong. I would totally do it.

Kong Phillip Windsor.

Em2010 Wed 19-Dec-12 14:58:54

Victoria wasn't queen Victoria's real name, her real name was Alexandrina.... (I think! grin)

I'm going for Charlotte or Caroline for a girl, James or Arthur for a boy!

poppydaisy Wed 19-Dec-12 15:05:01

Yes, her name was Alexandrina Victoria and her nickname was Drina.

Tamoo Wed 19-Dec-12 15:06:46

Charlotte Elizabeth Alexandra

George Henry Arthur

GinSoakedMu1berryLush Wed 19-Dec-12 18:36:41

iT'S A pity Mary Alice sounds so desperate housewives. that is quite royal but pretty too.

I'd hate to have to use anything as crusty as Victoria.

RabidCarrot Wed 19-Dec-12 18:43:11

Lewis/ Louie maybe

GlobalDisaster Mon 07-Jan-13 12:40:21

Jayden or Harmoni

pinkandyellowbutterfly Mon 07-Jan-13 22:47:19

I think Catherine might be a possibility. The Queen took her name from her mother, who was a non-royal.

atthewelles Tue 08-Jan-13 16:46:15

I think Margaret with the nickname Meg.

FlyOverTheMistletoe Tue 08-Jan-13 17:09:59

Solomon - well they were in the Solomon Islands not long ago. smile

GlobalDisaster Wed 09-Jan-13 20:43:43

King Solomon, wicked!1 ( as my 6 year old would say)

FlyOverTheMistletoe Thu 10-Jan-13 12:37:59

Exactly GlobalDisaster though it would be even funnier if they named their baby after you grin

GlobalDisaster Thu 10-Jan-13 14:17:50

Or Noble Disaster( good name for a rapper perhaps?)

FlyOverTheMistletoe Thu 10-Jan-13 15:38:49

Nobledisaster the Rapping King mmm I think I rather like that !

FlyOverTheMistletoe Thu 10-Jan-13 15:42:25

Global I think the Palace will be calling us in as advisors soon smile I'd better put away my Christmas name and think of some thing more wintery.
