Your opinions would be appreciated

Myself and DH have narrowed down baby names to a top 5 for boys and girls. These are names which we both agree we like (some of my more unique names have not made the list!) but we can't agree on our favourite amongst these. I know these names won't be to everyone's taste, but if you HAD to name your baby one of these, what would be your order of preference?

Really interested to see which ones comes out on top

Boys:
Harrison
Henry
Jacob
Lucas
Zachary

Girls:
Adele
Ava
Chloe
Isabelle
Sophia

Zachary - I really like this and I don't know of any personally.
Jacob - I love this name - shame it's so popular.
Henry - I used to love this, but I've gone off it a bit in recent years.
Harrison - OK, but I'm not keen on surnames as names.
Lucas - I don't like this. Partly the surname thing, partly Lucozade, and partly Adrian Mole's Creep Lucas!

Girls:
Sophia - nice name, nice meaning, but a bit too popular for me.
Isabelle - nice name, but again it's very popular.
Ava - Quite nice.
Adele - OK, but everyone will think you named her after the pop star.
Chloe - OK, not mad about this.

Henry and Ava.

Dont like the rest.

Henry and Ava. I have a 2 year old Ava and although its supposed to be mega popular I've only met a couple of others and I go to loads of groups.

ILikeRed Tue 20-Nov-12 12:28:48

Jacob and Ava, although would happily use any of your list!

Good luck!

lottiegarbanzo Tue 20-Nov-12 12:31:49

Jacob
Zachary
Lucas
Henry
Harrison

Ava
Sophia
Isabelle
Adele
Chloe

Yours girls' names are all really popular, or have been (Chloe 10 years ago). I really like Isabelle but there are thousands of them, the name in different forms appears 3 or 4 times in the top 100, including in top 10. That would put me off but clearly doesn't bother you.

mrsvandertramp Tue 20-Nov-12 12:34:53

All lovely names, I would rank them in this order:
Henry
Zachary
Jacob
Lucas
Harrison

Sophia
Isabelle
Adele
Ava
Chloe

Girls:

Chloe
Ava
Isabelle
Adele

Lebkuchenlover Tue 20-Nov-12 14:26:37

They are all quite trendy names so may date more than more timeless names but if I had to choose then it would be Lucas and Adele.

Littlecherublegs Tue 20-Nov-12 14:27:53

In order of preference:

Zachary
Lucas
Harrison
Jacob
Henry

Chloe
Ava
Sophia
Adele
Isabelle

Gwennan Tue 20-Nov-12 16:15:00

In order of preference:

Henry
Zachary
Jacob
Lucas - I just can't seem to like this name although I like Luke.
Harrison

Sophia
Ava
Chloe
Adele - I much prefer Adelaide, Adela & Adeline. Adele is too associated with the singer for me!
Isabelle - I like this name but the huge number of variant spellings bugs me; I imagine you'd be forever correcting people (Isobel, Isabel, and so on).

CPtart Tue 20-Nov-12 16:23:58

Sorry, not keen on any of your girls names, one of billions!

Love
Zachary,
Jacob,
Lucas (much prefer Luke though)
Henry

Harrison (dislike)

aliphil Tue 20-Nov-12 18:00:52

I'd choose Jacob for a boy (except I wouldn't because one of my godsons is a Jacob! - so second choice would be Zachary).

For a girl, probably Isabelle, though I prefer Isabella, or maybe Sophia, though I prefer Sophie. (Who says I have to be consistent?!)

Alisvolatpropiis Tue 20-Nov-12 18:16:08

Henry and Ava.

Not sure how Henry or Jacob are trendy and not timeless? They're both really old names, used for centuries!

sieglinde Tue 20-Nov-12 18:17:09

I like Ava and Henry. Why not Lukas?

eatyourveg Tue 20-Nov-12 18:17:36

Jacob - Wins by a long way as long as not given nn Jake
Henry
Harrison
Lucas
Zachary - No no no

Sophia - Pips Isabelle to the post
Isabelle
Ava - nice but far too common
Chloe - ok but Sophia and Isabelle much nicer
Adele - too celeby

Lucas then Jacob. Don't like the others.

Harrison

Sophia and Isabelle lovely
I know lots of Avas
Chloe ok, inoffensive
Wouldn't do Adele

scarlettsmummy2 Wed 21-Nov-12 23:44:16

Only like Henry really, I think the rest are a bit over used.

Devora Wed 21-Nov-12 23:48:41

Jacob, by miles.
Then Lucas.

Ava
Chloe
Sophia
Adele
Isabelle

So Jacob and Ava for me. Though both are very popular right now, if that bothers you.

Startail Wed 21-Nov-12 23:50:20

Harrison is a surname
Adele is a singer
and Sophia is Sophie, which I love, ruined.

the rest are lovely, Henry/Harry quite common here and Izzy's do have to be very spelling tolerant, random le and la's appear on my friends Isabel, because Isabelle, Isabella is now so common.

Allthesanityinme Thu 22-Nov-12 20:59:17

Jacob
Zachary
Henry
Lucas
Harrison

Sophia
Isabelle
Chloe
Adele
Ava

Wishfulmakeupping Thu 22-Nov-12 21:13:00

Henry and Sophia- both beautiful

sleeplessinderbyshire Thu 22-Nov-12 21:28:20

I'm struck by the fact that your girls names are lovely and pretty classic but your boys names are not at all

Boys names - sorry I'll be blunt I'm not keen on any

Harrison - horrible (sorry)
Henry - classic but boring
Jacob - nice I think but grandparent aged people may comment it is a Jewish sounding name which might be off if you are not Jewish
Lucas - I'm torn and not sure if this is quite nice or really chavtastic
Zachary - OK but ditto comments re Jacob above

Girls names
Adele - no way, how could you, she may be a popular singer now but all other adeles make me think of a middle aged secretary
Ava - love it love it even though it is said to be very popular (but Eva is even better)
Chloe - lovely, classic name but has been v popular
Isabelle - like it but prefer Isobel and it is very popular
Sophia - again a nice name but not one that jumps out at me

effyzm Fri 23-Nov-12 15:40:44

my son is Zack. i loved it and still do. Suits him very well. he's not a Zachary though. i wanted to be slightly different. I love the name Jacob. Henry- hoover. Harrison will never be called it unless he's in trouble.

Girls names you've choosen are fairly popular and she would be in a classroom sharing a name. Adele is nice but my DH always says 'i've got one of those' (a dell laptop) when he hears the name. Perhaps you need to branch out into less common names?

Jacob
Zachary
(don't like the others sorry)

Ava
Chloe
Isabelle
Sophia
Adele
(I think are ok names but will probably be extremely popular).

aliphil Fri 23-Nov-12 15:58:37

How do you pronounce Ava - Ah-va or Eh-va? I've never heard it in real life!

ImpYCelyn Fri 23-Nov-12 16:35:00

Jacob
Lucas - prefer Luca
Zachary
Henry
Harrison - hate it

Chloe
Sophia
Adele - don't like
Ava - everywhere
Isabelle - everywhere

Alisvolatpropiis Fri 23-Nov-12 16:48:02

It's A-va I thought? A like the letter. In some countries Eva gets pronounced as Ava and it confuses me a great deal!

baskingseals Fri 23-Nov-12 17:17:49

Zachary and Sophia

YoullScreamAboutItOneDay Fri 23-Nov-12 17:31:34

For girls, I like Adele. The others are all perfectly lovely, but I know at least two of each (and about 15 Isobel/Isabel/Isabella/Bella's) so that would put me off. Not the popularity exactly, but personally knowing so many children with those names already. One baby group I went to had 3 Sophia's amongst 15 kids. They are popular for a reason though.

Boys I like all bar Harrison. I'm a bit of a refusenik on the 'surname as first name' trend though. Lucas and Jacob probably my favourites.

thegreylady Fri 23-Nov-12 17:36:42

Girls I really only like Sophia with Isabelle and Ava tying for second place then Chloe with Adele a long way behind.
Boys I love Zachary like Henry and Harrison and Jacob and Lucas are ok.
I dont dislike any of the boys names but I have a very soft spot for Zachary after reading the Madeleine L'Engle 'Meet the Austins ' series. Mind you there is also Zachary Quack.....

mummybare Fri 23-Nov-12 18:47:19

Isabelle
