I love it. I first heard it in the lion king and would have loved to use it for one of my girls but dh was set on very normal names.

Our DS has a very unusual name (but not weird) so we need something to go with it, if baby was a girl that is!!

Gwennan Fri 16-Nov-12 15:14:09

Also thought of the Lion King.

Gwennan Fri 16-Nov-12 15:14:45

AlphaBeta82 - what is your DS' name or what other names have you picked out for this baby?

Alan backwards! And the lion king. But it's pretty smile

AlphaBeta82 Fri 16-Nov-12 15:17:12

DS is called Iden

For a boy we like Quinlan nn. Quinn (that is literally the only one we both like!)
Girl - Elodie or as suggested Nahla

AlphaBeta82 Fri 16-Nov-12 15:23:05

P.S. also like Ayra but wonder if it is too close to Iden???

Iden is eye-den?? Or ih-den?? Ayra to rhyme with Myra? I like Quinn

AlisonMills Fri 16-Nov-12 15:31:03

Nahla is a great Arabic name and so is, my personal favourite: Asiya!

AlphaBeta82 Fri 16-Nov-12 16:14:41

Iden is eye-den, yes and Ayra to rhyme with Myra. i think we are sorted if it is a boy as both dh and I like quinlan (quinn) smile

ClementineandLilac Fri 16-Nov-12 16:17:42

It sounds very pretty to me!

Lion King

Lion King.

babyblabber Fri 16-Nov-12 16:28:18

LOVE it. Would defo use it if we didn't have a Noah!

Gwennan Fri 16-Nov-12 16:29:43

Elodie is very pretty.

Iden & Ayra/Eira sound too alike. Ira is also used as a boys' name.

I find these lists very useful to browse for inspiration.

It's Nala in the Lion King,to be pedantic about it.

Nahla is lovely. I wouldn't worry so much about the Disney references. Arielle,Aurora and Belle are all fairly popular despite their Disney credentials.

ladymia Sun 18-Nov-12 23:50:13

like it!

UnrequitedSkink Sun 18-Nov-12 23:51:45

I know a little girl called Quinn, it's not a name I'd have thought of for a girl but she's adorable and it really suits her.

I hear the name and think of Halle Berry lol but nice name. I have never heard of Iden but sounds lovely and goes fab with Nahla.

Iden and Quinlan together looks as if you wanted to call your DS Aiden but spelled Aiden with a cockney accent. Quinlan is too Oirish.

Nahla is nice, as is Ayra. But I would go back to the drawing board for another boy's name.

AlphaBeta82 Mon 19-Nov-12 11:08:36

I can assure you mathanxiety that Iden was a very well choosen name for very specific reasons which related to our our family not a cockney mistake! smile

smother Mon 19-Nov-12 12:36:07

I like Nahla ... also like Nuala and Nola

zingally Mon 19-Nov-12 12:50:30

Hmm... No. Too "Lion King".

brimfullofasha Mon 19-Nov-12 19:31:05

I like it. In Arabic they pronounce the 'h' as in na-h-la which is quite difficult to do in English but I do think it is very pretty.

Halle Berry/ Lion king. Otherwise it's pretty

AlphaBeta82 Mon 19-Nov-12 20:02:41

Don't worry tried to convince DH and he said it made him think of someone chewing a rotten bit of wood!!

Though I'm not sure of his tastes he wants Maguiver for a boy! wink

CrapBag Mon 19-Nov-12 21:20:27

Yes Lion King but so what. Like the name.

I also know a Mahala, haven't heard that before but its a nice name.

mathanxiety Tue 20-Nov-12 01:25:03

I know a Mahala too. She pronounces it Maholla. For years I had no idea how it was spelled.

If Maguiver is pronounced M'Gyver your DH needs to watch The Simpsons.
