Ursula the Sea Witch - big ugly baddie in Disney's Ariel..

bryonywhisker Thu 15-Nov-12 12:22:16

sorry, it's a bit harsh sad !

WitchesTit Thu 15-Nov-12 12:22:28

Sounds like this, "Urrgh..sula"

bryonywhisker Thu 15-Nov-12 12:22:38

SurreyWithAFringeOnTop Thu 15-Nov-12 12:27:08

I love it

RarelyUnreasonable Thu 15-Nov-12 12:27:48

Haha, DH just texted to say no way too, so will put it down to the hormones!

squoosh Thu 15-Nov-12 12:39:24

I used to hate it, now I think it's kind of elegant, in a frosty Greta Garbo kind of way.

axure Thu 15-Nov-12 12:49:38

I love it - sounds like the name of a sophisticated, intelligent woman.

delilah88 Thu 15-Nov-12 12:55:47

Very cool, but I expect your daughter wouldn't like it until she was older.

VolumeOfACone Thu 15-Nov-12 13:24:29

I really like it!
Cute nicknames too.

Doodler79 Thu 15-Nov-12 13:25:06

I think it's fab!!

BarbecuedBillygoats Thu 15-Nov-12 13:27:03

So many cute bear based nicknames until she's grown up enough for quite a grown up name. It's elegant

BonaDea Thu 15-Nov-12 14:35:29

I think it's quite harsh sounding.

Pancakeflipper Thu 15-Nov-12 14:36:21

I love it.

anothercuppaplease Thu 15-Nov-12 14:38:00

Don't like Ursula but I love Orla!

SpringHeeledJack Thu 15-Nov-12 14:39:08

german dimin for Ursula is Uschi

I love Uschi

stinkinseamonkey Thu 15-Nov-12 14:43:09

I actually think its cool despite myself, it sort of reminds me of a nun's name (yes Sr Ursula).. but actually, I think picturing it on a kid its really quite different and cool and quirky and quite a nice relief from the candy-flossy-florally girls names about at the min

stinkinseamonkey Thu 15-Nov-12 14:44:07

BTW think it goes best with single syllable surnames

RosannaBanana Thu 15-Nov-12 14:46:29

Nah, not nice. Imvho eyc...

RosannaBanana Thu 15-Nov-12 14:46:55

etc I meant!

TitWillow Thu 15-Nov-12 14:49:09

Love it! Makes me think of Ursula Le Guin, a strong, intelligent, feminist!

Ursula is a lovely name and I've known a few lovely women of that name. I wish Disney hadn't used it fora baddie.

orangefan Thu 15-Nov-12 14:53:23

Love it, shorten it to Sula in our house.

CordeliaChase Thu 15-Nov-12 15:28:52

Dislike. Makes me think of a big fat blue baddie in the little mermaid sad

We know a little Ursie. Cute.

derekthehamster Thu 15-Nov-12 15:32:59

I love it

Kelerina Thu 15-Nov-12 16:24:58

LOVE it! I am having a boy so can't use it but to be honest DP would never have let me use it anyway, sigh.....

Bumpstart Thu 15-Nov-12 19:39:03

Love it

Lizzylou Thu 15-Nov-12 19:44:19

Love it.
Very elegant imo

noisytoys Thu 15-Nov-12 19:47:45

I have an Aunty Ursula. She's cool and her name really suits her

Geranium3 Thu 15-Nov-12 19:50:09

oh don't! sounds very 60's/70,s in a grotty way!

Viviennemary Thu 15-Nov-12 19:50:34

Hmm. Not sure. It's quite unusual. On the whole though, probably not.

PrannyHamster Thu 15-Nov-12 20:22:14

I like it, it has a lovely sweeping sound and is very dignified and elegant! (And I'm saying that as someone who grew up watching the Little Mermaid).

Beamur Thu 15-Nov-12 20:24:31

I love it and was seriously tempted to use it, but didn't in the end - I wasn't that keen on the nn for it and thought it was a bit long to use every day. Love the way it sounds though, I think it's an elegant and sophisticated name.

TempusFuckit Thu 15-Nov-12 20:30:29

It's the kind of name I usually like, but just can't get past the fact it was Phoebe's pornstar twin sister's name in Friends. Sorry.

Alisvolatpropiis Thu 15-Nov-12 20:36:16

I like it!

Binkybix Thu 15-Nov-12 21:47:02

I really like it, but DH has vetoed it from our list. That doesn't mean I've taken it off though!

almapudden Thu 15-Nov-12 21:54:43

It's my mum's name. I used to hate it but now I think it's lovely - unusual but not too weird, strong and with a great meaning (little she-bear).

mimmymouse Thu 15-Nov-12 21:58:39

Love it! Had DD2 shown up vaguely on time, she'd have been Ursula.

MerylStrop Thu 15-Nov-12 22:03:52

I love it. Nickname Sula

lemontruffles Thu 15-Nov-12 22:06:32

Love love Ursula, so elegant - would have used it myself but it didn't go with our surname. Lovely name smile

stinkinseamonkey Thu 15-Nov-12 22:07:54

"unusual but not too weird"

InkleWinkle Thu 15-Nov-12 22:26:29

Ursula Buffay grin

That's all it reminds me of.

Porn star.

persephoneplum Fri 16-Nov-12 12:41:07

I adore Ursula - it was our girl name for this baby but he's a third boy smile It is unusual, string and elegant and ours would have been named for Ursula Le Guin (and hubby sure didn't mind the Ursula Andress link either, hehehe).

persephoneplum Fri 16-Nov-12 12:42:16

Strong not string!

MildredIsMyAlterEgo Fri 16-Nov-12 12:45:58

It's a lovely name. Go for it.

Mildred is also a nice alternative wink

I like it, it's on my list for dd2.

hiviolet Fri 16-Nov-12 20:56:24

I really love uncommon names but have always thought Ursula looks ugly written down and sounds ugly too. Sorry!

BananaBubbles Fri 16-Nov-12 21:35:32

A definite no imho.It has a harsh and ugly sound. A very unattractive name.
