Hello all,

I am very new to this so sorry if my message isn't in the style that your all used to.
I just wanted some help with names as I find people pulled a "ughhh" face or just say "aaaaar how lovelllyyyy " to my names but I would love some true honest opinions!
We love the names Rocco or Eli with the middle name Parker or Talulah with the middle name Poppy for a girl.
We are a young Jewish couple and would like something unusual, we loveddddd the name Noah but its everywhere I turn now.

If you have any other ideas for names please help!!

Thank you all xxx

MoelFammau Wed 10-Oct-12 21:01:16

Rocco is really nice!

Actually they're all nice. I'm not really into Poppy because it sounds a bit cutesy to me, but it's a lovely name. I'm just a tomboy at heart, that's all.

peachypips Wed 10-Oct-12 21:02:54

Like all of them except Tallulah! A bit of a mouthful...

InTheNightGarden Wed 10-Oct-12 21:03:10

rocco - awful (are you having a baby or a chocolate bar?)

eli - is that boy or girl? its ok.

parker - nice

talulah - awful, chavvy.

poppy - lovely!

noah - lovely (not overly used just yet bit is becoming more popular)

MoelFammau Wed 10-Oct-12 21:05:30

Oh, saw you wanted ideas....

Can suggest

Talulah Fern
Talulah Marigold
Talulah Raine
Talulah Sage

<trails off unhelpfully>

lisaro Wed 10-Oct-12 21:06:12

Awful, just awful! Please don't!!

EarnestDullard Wed 10-Oct-12 21:06:14

I prefer Eli Parker to Rocco Parker, the latter has a lot of hard 'k' sounds in it.

Talulah isn't a name I'd choose myself, but I think Talulah Poppy has a nice ring to it.

MoelFammau Wed 10-Oct-12 21:06:46

Talulah isn't chavvy. Rocco is pretty classic too, just not in the UK.

There ARE a lot of Noah's. I know 3 and I live in a box.

twooter Wed 10-Oct-12 21:08:15

I like Eli best.

PickledFanjoCat Wed 10-Oct-12 21:10:37

No it isn't chavvy, whatever it is you think that means.

Anyway! I really like Noah, biblical names are quite popular now but it's a nice name.

Similar is Jonah?

I like the name rocco too, but if I'm honest it does make me think of madonna

I like poppy more than tallulah I would rather poppy tallulah.

NellyBluth Wed 10-Oct-12 21:10:49

Not a fan of Rocco really.

Talulah Poppy does have a nice flow to it. Talulah is a bit of a mouthful though, would you shorten it? Tally? Lou?

PickledFanjoCat Wed 10-Oct-12 21:11:10

Oh Eli is nice too and not at all silly.

OwedToAutumn Wed 10-Oct-12 21:12:56

I agree Noah is everywhere, and hasn't Chris Evans just called his second son Eli? So I would expect similar to happen for that.

Rocco is a very Italian name, but if you like it, go for it.

I don't like your choices for girls, but that's just my opinion.

But, just a word to the wise. Don't tell anyone in real life what names you are considering. It's hard enough agreeing between the two of you, let alone trying to please everybody else in the world. Once you have had the baby, announce the name as a fait accompli. Then, unless people are extremely rude, they will smile and say "lovely", even if they hate it.

Bluestocking Wed 10-Oct-12 21:13:56

Eli is nice. Rocco is awful, and apparently in Italy it's a real old gimmer's name, and not in a cool and ironic way. Is Parker a family name? If not, I can't see it adding anything much to the party.
Tallulah and Poppy are both awful.
Noah is lovely, but yes, there are a lot of little Noahs around!

InTheNightGarden Wed 10-Oct-12 21:16:34

Google Jeremy Kyle and talulah ;)
theres been more than a few on there and I rarely watch the stupid show!!

Loobylou222 Wed 10-Oct-12 21:17:32

Really don't like Eli but like the other names love Parker!
Everyone turned their nose up when I announced our dd's name but everyone loves it now it really suits her, to be honest I wouldnt really worry about what others think, as long as you don't give your baby a ridiculous name that they will get teased about, just chose whatever name u like best.

PickledFanjoCat Wed 10-Oct-12 21:18:34

Who really cares though? I've seen every name under the sun on there. Not that I watch DNA day. Oooooh no.

PickledFanjoCat Wed 10-Oct-12 21:19:50

With all due respect though much as i like Chris Evans I can't see a rush on because of that. grin

Hassled Wed 10-Oct-12 21:21:55

I like Rocco or Eli lots.

I can't think of Tallulah without "My name is Tallulah" - the song in Bugsy Malone. It does make me think "precocious, cutesy child". And there are a hell of a lot of Poppies about.

usualsuspect3 Wed 10-Oct-12 21:22:38

Is there any need for the nasty JK and Chav comments?

I love all your names OP.

BexGershon Wed 10-Oct-12 21:22:44

My goodness, already so helpful!! We love biblical names but being jewish(and we both have very traditional biblical names ourselves) myhunband and i can always think of a person we know rather than how lovely the name is.

I though of Jonah but I think due his story being that he lied I had gone off it.

Aar Ididnt think Talulah was chavvy...obviously wouldn't want that but was thinking we would call her Lou Lou as a little girl (ok...this might be chavvy but was hoping we could pull it off!!!) then when she is the best QC that ever went into law...we have high hopes for him/her.... that the long name would be nice but still professional.

I'm now going off Rocco but hubby loves it, I love Eli and happy to see that has received the least negativity!

I like Eli if short for Elijah. I also like Ezekiel and Jeremiah, which are similar.

If you like Talulah then how about Jemima?

Flojo1979 Wed 10-Oct-12 21:26:02

I like them all. None of them are ridiculous names so I wouldn't worry what others think. If u like them then go for it.

Pickles77 Wed 10-Oct-12 21:26:51

I've got a baby poppy- so I'm biased. I love it

PickledFanjoCat Wed 10-Oct-12 21:27:18

Don't worry tallulah it's fine!

It's only on mumsnet people call names chavvy.

I don't think your names are silly. If you like them, go for them!

And don't tell people in real life what names you are considering. Just keep it to yourselves untul you have had the baby.

Rocco is very cool I think. It reminded me of Bruno, which I tihnk is also a very cool name.

Heavensmells Wed 10-Oct-12 21:30:43

They are all lovely and a bit different without being too 'out there'

PickledFanjoCat Wed 10-Oct-12 21:31:12

Bruno yes that's nice!

VerySmallSqueak Wed 10-Oct-12 21:31:53

Eli was on my shortlist so I love it.
I have to say I also love Rocco.
Not so sure on Parker, unless its a family connection.
Talulah is one I also shortlisted (just as Tallulah instead) and I think Poppy will flow with it very well.

None of them are silly.Good luck.

BexGershon Wed 10-Oct-12 21:35:16

Well we have to have a middle name that begins with P. when we first got pregnant and no one knew we would call my bump poppy as my husband read that it was the size of a poppy seed so what started as a code name has now stuck, would love it as a first name but it is everywhere now.
Parker just because it's the only nice name beginning with P for a boy, although I do think of the shofar in Thumder Birds a lot!!
I also think of Bugsy for Talulah!! I just cant find a girls name that I like as much.
This is so helpful, I will have to add a lot more posts of different subjects!!

LuellaLovesLavender Wed 10-Oct-12 21:35:55

Eli is defo going to get super super popular so I would stay away from that! Rocco is great!

Loobylou222 Wed 10-Oct-12 21:35:57

I don't think tallulah is popular or chavvy smile

PickledFanjoCat Wed 10-Oct-12 21:36:27

Poppy is a lovely name!

Chubfuddler Wed 10-Oct-12 21:39:56

Tallulah = prostitute in my mind. The rest are okaaaay. Seriously though if you like them does it matter what we think? Likewise if you like Noah does it matter that n other people liked it so much they called their DS that?

YouMayLogOut Wed 10-Oct-12 21:46:57

Rocco - reminds me of Madonna
Eli - great, lovely old name
Parker - too surnamey
Tallulah - like
Poppy - lovely
Noah - quite nice, if a bit faddy

musttidyupmusttidyup Wed 10-Oct-12 21:54:09

They are nice. Try not to care too much about what others think unless you are choosing really ridiculous names go with what you like.

ninjawomble Wed 10-Oct-12 23:32:57

Really like Eli (would call Elijah on bc) and Noah is lovely as well. Sorry don't like any of the other names. What about Aaron, Adam, Issac, Reuben or Solomon (nn Sol) for a boy ? Nice girl's names Abigail, Hannah, Amira, Naomi and Zara.

Teamthrills Wed 10-Oct-12 23:38:03

Naomi
Rebekah
Nyah (means purpose)

crabb Wed 10-Oct-12 23:40:05

Elias is an alternative full name to Elijah, for Eli. (This is my grandson's name so love it of course).

PinkMilkIsMyFavouriteAndMyBest Wed 10-Oct-12 23:40:33

Love Eli - not sur about Rocco. The girls' names are nic. There must be a better name than Parker starting with P though!

PinkMilkIsMyFavouriteAndMyBest Wed 10-Oct-12 23:40:54

Nice not nic!

burmac Wed 10-Oct-12 23:47:16

DD2 went to school with a Tallulah and I never came round to it. It's a bit of a running joke in our house because of that press story about the New Zealand child called "Tallulah does the hula in Hawaii" - the test I came across when pg was to imagine her/him growing up to be a judge and will the name stand up.

I speak as someone who ended up having to change my first name by deed poll because my original name was a mouthful that my parents regretted and had already given me a permanent nickname by the time I started school and it messed me up for ID purposes years later as an adult......

Devora Wed 10-Oct-12 23:49:39

Tallulah is a bit too loaded for me. How about Tamara, or Talia?

Boy: I like Noah. How about Seth or Jed or Yishai?

I also like ninjawomble's suggestions, especially Solomon and Amira smile

P names are a bit tricky, aren't they? How about Paloma, Paola, Pearl, Phoebe, Pia, Pilar, Piper, Polly, Posy. Or, for a boy, Patrick, Pedro, Paolo, Pesac, Philo? Ooh, I know - Primo, after Primo Levi smile

VBisme Wed 10-Oct-12 23:49:44

I'd think that Eli was a NN for Elijah.
Talullah is not my cup of tea, but what about Louise if you like Lou Lou?

BurnThisDiscoDown Wed 10-Oct-12 23:49:55

Love Eli (and Elias and Elisha), and also Parker and Poppy. Rachael and Rebekah are nice, but might be a bit too frequently used?

I'm thinking of Eli ( Elijah )
Not keen on rocco or talullah nothing to do with thinking they are silly or chavvy though
Poppys nice, not sure where I stand on Parker

Devora Thu 11-Oct-12 00:02:30

Rachel is seriously out of fashion but I love it.

YouMayLogOut Thu 11-Oct-12 00:03:55

Eli is a name in its own right. Eli and Elijah were separate people in the Bible.

Sossiges Thu 11-Oct-12 00:09:43

Eli Parker (rather than Rocco Parker)
Talulah Poppy

good names

PorkyandBess Thu 11-Oct-12 00:10:30

Tallulah and Poppy are both dreadful, imo.

Eli, Rocco & Noah are all good.

RTchoke Thu 11-Oct-12 10:25:26

I love Eli, we are thinking of using Elias and Eli for short. Other Old Testament boys names which I love are Reuben, Saul and Isaac.

I am not terribly keen of Parker as it sounds like surname and therefore very American to use it as a first name.

Rocco just screams Madonna to me.

I actually like Tallulah although I am aware it is a marmite name. I love Bugsy and I knew an amazing young girl called Tallulah shortened to Lullah.

MoonHare Thu 11-Oct-12 13:40:42

Eli is Ok, and flows nicely with Parker. Not keen on Rocco sounds a bit ostentatious. Probably because of the similarity to the word rococo

Tallulah also makes me think 'precocious', because of the Bugsey Malone thing, but that may just be me showing my age. Poppy is a bit too cutesy for me, as flower names go Iris is still pretty but sounds stronger.

Noah has risen in popularity in recent years but is not massively common as say Harry or George so he might not be in the same class as any others. Jonah is a good alternative suggestion.

If you like Tallulah and like biblical names what about Tabitha?

badtime Thu 11-Oct-12 17:15:35

What about Noa for a girl? (if you like Noah but don't want to use it for a boy - I think in the bible she is actually 'Noah', but the spelling without an 'h' is more common for girls)

I like Tallulah, though.

wildpoppy Thu 11-Oct-12 18:25:02

Great names

mathanxiety Thu 11-Oct-12 19:25:55

Rocco is very Italian Catholic. I don't know if that would be offputting for you but it has that cultural connection. It has also been adopted by the hip crowd because of the Rock syllable indicating music/rock n roll, etc., but Rocco is an Italian saint and a v traditional name, v old mannish.

Eli is lovely. (But for a boy, not a girl).

Parker is a terribly bland, white bread and mayonnaise (look at 'Hannah and Her Sisters'), anonymous American suburbia sort of name.

Tallulah as a bit of pzazz about it. Nice.

I find Poppy incredibly insipid and not a strong name. It's a good name for a pet.

There are many gorgeous modern Israeli names, and plenty of great names from traditional Jewish sources. It seems a shame to go for names so random and without significance to you, or with significance in another culture.

OrangeFireandGoldashes Thu 11-Oct-12 20:51:09

I work with a Tallulah (never shortened) and she is one of the poshest people I know! She's lovely, and very intelligent, but she is full-on huntin' shootin' fishin' set so not at all chavvy.

twooter Fri 12-Oct-12 13:42:53

I like tallulah, but wouldn't be brave enough to use it. I can imagine it on an extrovert child, but could an introvert live up to her name?

i have a Tallulah and adore the name - i get sooo many lovely comments about it so i am totally biased!!!

Tallulah poppy is lovely.

sparkle12mar08 Fri 12-Oct-12 18:17:36

My "true honest opinion" is that Tallulah screams chav and prostitute, as mentioned by others up thread. Rocco is iffy, frankly and Parker is just meh. Poppy is boring and grossly over used. There are hundreds, thousands even, of better names out there, surely you can come up with some you both like?

Bonsoir Fri 12-Oct-12 18:25:09

My DP is Jewish and we know a lot of people with Jewish first names. I like:

boys: Ariel, David, Simon
girls: Tsipora

wigglesrock Fri 12-Oct-12 19:55:50

A babys name likened to a prostitute only on fuckin' Mumsnet angry. I like Noah, it was on my shortlist when I had dd3, I also like it for a girl, but I really like Parker grin for either.

If you love a name, you love a name [shrug], I have 3 daughters, all of who have popular names, I don't regret a single one of them, they're my childrens name - I think they're gorgeous. In fact my dd3 (20 months) has begun to call one of her big sisters Lou Lou (her name is actually Olivia) but it was a nickname that just came naturally.

As an aside I'm in NI and I know quite a few Roccos.
