Help! C- section planned for Tuesday, got a shortlist but can't make the final decision! We have 2 x ds already, Luc & Jacques. Expecting ds3. Shortlist is Pascal, Mathis (Matisse), Joel, Didier. Or something else?... Help please
Mathis is very nice! Joel would be next choice.
Are you French? Or planning to live in France? Mathis is nice but extremely common these days in France (if it matters to you - it seems that one baby boy out of two is called Mathis).
I am afraid that I can't imagine anybody under 40 called Didier (and a few years ago there was a movie about a dog called Didier, not memorable, but still).
Joel and Pascal are not trendy but nice...
What about Louis, Xavier, Antoine ? All classic, and they go very well with Luc and Jacques.
Please, NOT Didier!
There are lots of Mathis at the moment in France. Do you like Mathieu (it won't date as much)?
I still think Pascal goes well with your DS's names.
Love Mathis.
I like Rene as a boy's name (after Descartes as I studied philosophy and love his work) but I don't know if it's become too much of a girl's name these days...
Another vote for Mathis or Joel. My first boyfriend was Xavier, I think that's a fab name as well. Good luck for Tuesday, how exciting
Pascal
love love Xavier
out of your list i like Joel the best. congratulations
Xavier also my favourite in fact; and what about Vianney?
And congrats, of course!
Mathis is everywhere. I know one who was just ahead of the curve and his mother really regrets it now.
Absolutely not Didier, it's very middle aged. (Also, ran it past DH and he said "no, there's a film about a dog called Didier").
Joel and then Pascal for preference, but I think Pascal might go better with your other two DCs.
I gather Mathias is not as common as Mathis.
Our first choice would have been Louie but that's Jacques' middle name. Pascal is looking most likely but all of our English side of family either at best deflect it or laugh and say keep looking at the lists! This is not helpful! That's why it's easier to get people's opinions that you don't know. The family seem to be so opinionated with their own ideas, it's doing my head in! We dont want a william or tom, it won't go with our 1st two. Dh and me are just going to declare it on the day and not talk to them about it any more now I think. But it's really great to hear opinions on hear.
Some of French side of family know more girls who are Pascal (e), but we live in England and I don't think it's the case here?... What do you reckon. Could be shortened to Cal or Pasc when older, I think this sounds quite cool.
I like Didier - so many names 'from 40 years ago' are coming back, why the hell not choose a nice one? Was the film about the dog a horrible/tragic/yucky film? Obviously it has no connotations for you.
Didac is nice, it's Catalan... but Catalan is a mix of Spanish and Provençal French, so...
I find Joel a bit flat, to be honest. I'd go for Didier or Pascal.
Henri, anyone? I had a friend create a limerick using my name and an 'Henri' from Paris
I absolutly adore Pascal.
I wanted DS2 to be Pascal but DH said no
I think its gorgeous.
I like Pascal. Didier will make you sound like a football fan.
Thank you for your help everyone, I know it should be our choice and I really like Pascal but negativity of family hard to ignore. Still if we decide on that they will get used to it pretty quick I suppose! Most friends seem to like Pascal. Although French friends a little indifferent, but in France English names seem to be in fashion.
DH did say he knows more Pascales and Joëlles than Pascals and Joëls, but I don't think that's a problem.
Never tell RL people your choices in advance! They'll always give you their worst opinion.
i like Loic, other half is French, but I don´t know how this fits in France (too old etc)
in the process of TTC a sibling for DD Amandine and trying to find a comparable boys or girls name
Loic is a fab name - we couldn't use it as DH has a cousin called Loic.
I love Amandine as well!
my sister called her fourth son her second son's middle name. hasn't caused any problems. Louis is a lovely name.
I like Pascal, Antoine, or how about Quentin? Agree that Didier is quite a middle aged name in France.
Joel then Pascal
prefer Matthieu to Mathis
I like Mathis best from your list. Sorry only ever known female pascales and it does seem a v. feminine name somehow.
Agree with others about Antoine,Xavier and Loic being great names.
What about something like Sebastien that is sort of English too depending on how you say it?
Pierre is my all time fave French boys' name. Also like Aurelien, Fabien and Laurent.
Amandine is a beautiful name, Loic is really nice but too similar to our ds1 who is Luc. Thank you and good luck!
DD's (6 months) little playgroup boyfriends are Nicolas, Jules, Henri and Thomas. All are a similar age to her.
Our two year old GS is Mattis (French mum, English dad, live in UK) It's a lovely name.
Yannick?
Agree Mathis is very popular. Another option is Mattéo.
Or how about Charles, Rémi, Nathan..
Matthis is the best from the list, but very popular in France. Didier, Pascal and Joel are so old and faded.
How about Jules, Marcel or Emile? Or Lucien, Arthur, Theodore, Gaspard, Baltazar, Joachim?
I love Henri, reminds me of Henri Leconte, who I had a major crush on when I was a teenager.
My ds1 incidentently shares his bd. July 4th. Didn't call him henri though.
Always thought Benoit was an unusual name.
Agree with the others, Mathis is too popular in France and Didier is just plain awful to French ears.
How about Erwan, Arthur, Pierre, Alexis...
For Luc and Jaques you seem to have gone for names which can fit in in both France and England, (i.e. similar to Luke and Jack) and I think this is a good idea if they'll be spending time in both countries (Didier or Pascal, however, might sound a bit extravagant to his English peers, especially when he's a teenager). I'd go for Joel, as it is nice and will fit in well in both countries.
