As above really. DD is a few days old now and we are not sure which one to choose.

Any feedback is welcome. I'm pretty sure I like Iris best. DH likes Honor.

shoppingtrolley Fri 05-Oct-12 11:59:18

I love Saskia but my DH hates it! Iris is next best.

YouMayLogOut Fri 05-Oct-12 12:24:31

Nell if a nickname, then Honor, Saskia, Iris in that order.

schnauzerfan Fri 05-Oct-12 12:28:45

squoosh Fri 05-Oct-12 12:40:02

I love both Nell and Honor.

Saskia - less used than the others.

Which is your and DH's 2nd choices - just to see if you match up at all down the list?

Pasiphae Fri 05-Oct-12 13:04:17

Honor or Nell.
Both very pretty, but not overtly "cute".

katiecubs Fri 05-Oct-12 13:09:01

lovely names - my favourite is Iris (one i would like to use myself if i have a DD) followed by honor. Let us know what you decide!

stowsettler Fri 05-Oct-12 13:11:13

Nell. Lush (and my nickname, but legitimately a name in its own right IMHO).

teaandchocolate Fri 05-Oct-12 13:18:28

I really love the name Iris!

PandaNot Fri 05-Oct-12 13:20:01

Iris, I would use this if I had another dd.

squoosh Fri 05-Oct-12 13:22:10

Yes, just Nell, by itself, not short for Helen or anything.

MoonHare Fri 05-Oct-12 13:32:50

Iris followed by Nell. Not keen on Honor and really dislike Saskia sounds a bit TOWIE to me.

DialMforMummy Fri 05-Oct-12 13:43:24

Honor, Honor, Honor, never had a girl, never will and readily sorry I was never able to consider this name.
Iris is fine. I agree that Saskia is bit TOWIE.

EllenParsons Fri 05-Oct-12 13:44:24

Saskia or Iris, both lovely.

Not keen on Honor especially spelled without the u and Nell is too much of a nickname IMO though I do really like it for Eleanor.

telsa Fri 05-Oct-12 14:16:45

Saskia and Nell are both fabulous. Honor is unusual and has a good sonorous ring to it. Iris is ho hum.

squoosh Fri 05-Oct-12 14:26:10

Oh yeah, Saskia is a bit TOWIE isn't it? It's a bit of a 'I'm dead classy me' kind of name.

Poor Saskia.

onlyaname Fri 05-Oct-12 14:42:14

Yes Saskia is a bit Towie, I had an odd feeling about it and couldn't work out why. I think that must be what it is. Not really sure on my second favourite now though!

DH likes Nell after Honor.

Kelerina Fri 05-Oct-12 14:47:50

My favourite is Nell, then Iris. Really dislike Saskia and Honor

MadBusLady Fri 05-Oct-12 14:55:46

Honor. Beautiful strong, elegant name, and with a bit of crowbarring nickname can be Honey which is cutesy and sweet, so you get both!

squoosh Fri 05-Oct-12 15:06:44

Although Rembrandt's wife was a Saskia, she was his model for a number of paintings so it's not all tacky associations.

PropositionJoe Fri 05-Oct-12 15:08:10

Please spell Honour properly if you use it.

squoosh Fri 05-Oct-12 15:09:55

I've only ever seen it spelt Honor when used as a name.

GloriaTechnicolour Fri 05-Oct-12 15:15:51

Honor or Iris. Not very helpful! But I love them both.

CakeBump Fri 05-Oct-12 15:17:57

I read Nell as Neil and though (well obviously not NEIL fgs!!) blush smile

I like Honor the best.

Or Neil, on second thoughts....

CakeBump Fri 05-Oct-12 15:18:48

And Honor the name is spelled correctly.

PropositionJoe Fri 05-Oct-12 15:26:53

Ah, ok <googles honor Blackman>
don't use it then!

Felicitywascold Fri 05-Oct-12 15:29:27

I've only ever met 'old money' Saskias, it doesn't sound even slightly TOWIE to me.

I'd choose it.

Saskia Nell is nice to my ears.

Then probably Iris.

Not keen on Honor. -unless you are American?

MolotovBomb Fri 05-Oct-12 15:30:39

Nell. My DD1's name is very close to it, but I didn't think of it as a name when she was born in 2009.

The look and sound of Nell is lovely. That's what I'd go for smile

Congratulations on your new baby! thanks

MerylStrop Fri 05-Oct-12 15:33:06

All gorgeous - you can't go wrong
In order of pref for me: Honor, Saskia, Nell, Iris (only because Iris is more popular round here)
If want Nell, have Helena as full name (beautiful)

MerylStrop Fri 05-Oct-12 15:34:56

Have never watched TOWIE, so no assocs for me

spaghettina Tue 09-Oct-12 14:10:01

I like all except Nell, which to me is too much of a nickname. Agree with Helena or Eleanor(a) as full name then go with Nell for nickname.
But I prefer Iris, Saskia and Honor in that order. It also depends what goes best with your surname...

spaghettina Tue 09-Oct-12 14:10:17

and congraulations, by the way! smile

Houseworkprocrastinator Tue 09-Oct-12 14:24:39

I like iris the best. The others a nice too but nell just makes me think of nelly the elephant but that might just be me smile

LexiLoganberry Tue 09-Oct-12 14:30:22

I like Nell.

I love Nell.

scootle Tue 09-Oct-12 14:38:03

Nell (helena on the bc) or Honor

Iris also nice

not so keen on Saskia

never mind your dh though - what do you love most

scootle Tue 09-Oct-12 14:40:45

Just realised you like Iris best, sorry. It's lovely, but less to my taste than Nell or Honor. I would just sit with it for a few days.

MaBaya Tue 09-Oct-12 16:44:51

Honor is dreadul. It will date very quickly.

Iris is everywhere now.

I love Nell is its short for something more official - Helena or Penelope.

Sakia is quite harsh sounding.

JennaMoroney Tue 09-Oct-12 23:49:51

I love Honor! ROYsh called his daughter Honor though. hmmm.

Nell is terribly frumpy.
Saskia a bit pretensh
Iris is very ugly.

chickydoo Tue 09-Oct-12 23:52:48

Nell... Love it!
Saskia .....yuck...
Honor ok
Iris.....old Lady

mathanxiety Wed 10-Oct-12 00:03:41

nappyaddict Wed 10-Oct-12 12:22:46

Nell or Honor.

StrangeGlue Wed 10-Oct-12 12:25:43

Iris or saskia

Nell is a nickname so I'd personally go for Eleanor if that's what you want.

I dislike character traits as names and along with an americanised spelling that'd be honor out for me.

schplappo Thu 11-Oct-12 02:04:25

Honor is my dd's name so that's my favourite! Can be tricky with middle names though as "Honor XXX" can sound like a command. We were in same situation as you when she was born but from our list, she just was Honor. Perhaps the same will happen with your little girl - she'll just be one of them.

Can I suggest Ellen as a bc version for Nell too.

birdofthenorth Thu 11-Oct-12 07:08:33

Congrats! I absolutely love Nell, Iris and Honor they are all on my list (although a friend just used Nell, short for Ellen in her case). Not so keen on Saskia, always felt a bit try-hard to me, sorry (plus that loopy bird who got murdered with an ashtray in Eastenders springs to mind, even though it was years ago!). Love the other three though. If it helps I would say Nell is the warmest, Iris the most elegant and Honor the most classic and least faddy.

mummybare Thu 11-Oct-12 07:25:07

I love Iris and Nell - I particularly like it short for Penelope or Helena - and Honor is nice and underused. In fact I can ONLY think of Honor Blackman, but she's a glamorous lady, so it's not a bad association.

Not so keen on Saskia, but think the others are all lovely.

mummybare Thu 11-Oct-12 07:26:16

Oh yes, and congratulations! thanks

HiHowAreYou Thu 11-Oct-12 07:42:39

I don't like Nell, too nicknamey.
Saskia sounds too... harsh somehow.

Of the other two, I slightly prefer Honor.

Honor is very cute. I adore Saskia. I read a very sensitive and beautifully written YA book called "Saskia's Journey" earlier this year and it made me love the name even more. I think it's interesting, sparky, elegant, delicate.

Metronomy Thu 11-Oct-12 09:55:20

mumnosbest Thu 11-Oct-12 10:04:40

Iris! smile

Saskia is Eastenders to me (while ago) and also nxt doors husky dog.

Not keen on the others sorry.

no one liked my choice of names either but nobody cares once baby's here so go with what you and dh love.

qumquat Thu 11-Oct-12 18:22:24

I love Honor, and it is spelled correctly, it's from the Latin Honoria. Don't see that Honor will date, I've never come across one. Love your taste in names, I'd use Nell as a nickname for Helena though, I'd feel a bit short changed to have Nell as my full name.

wildpoppy Thu 11-Oct-12 18:23:59

I like them in the order you put them in the question

Popsandpip Fri 12-Oct-12 15:43:35

Some really pretty choices there. Congrats on your new baby girl!

Not so sure about Nell as a full name - more of a nn IMO.

My middle name is Honor. People always say how unusual and classic it is though I know it's become more popular since Jessica Alba named her baby Honor.

BananaPhone Mon 15-Oct-12 21:46:30

Nell. I would maybe use is as a NN for Eleanor though.

Verynearlytea Sun 03-Mar-13 03:31:51

Agree with some others on the Saskia/TOWIE thing.
I love Iris and Nell, had both on my list but fella didn't go for Iris (Nell in our final two). A lot of folks don't like as it's considered to be just a nn but I think it works just fine on it's own and if you used a longer version the her name wouldn't be Nell.
I also quite like Honor, it's growing on me as I'm typing, I hadn't come across it much apart from Ms. Blackman so hadn't formed an opinion but yup quite like.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Sun 03-Mar-13 16:55:32

Old thread now but I wonder what OP chose? smile

kerala Sun 03-Mar-13 18:41:42

Love Honor and Iris. Saskia sounds pretentious somehow and Nell just isnt a pretty sound.

northofwestway Sun 03-Mar-13 18:47:32

Saskia is a good Dutch name (Rembrant's wife) and I am surprised that people think it is pretentious or TOWIE. BTW it is pronounced Suskia and not Saasskia. I have one too - named in honour of my Dutch mother.

CognitiveOverload Sun 03-Mar-13 20:07:56

Honor and iris.
