Twin boys: Edward and.....? Love to hear your suggestions.

Just discovered the twins we're expecting next year are both boys!

DH and I are stuck. He's vetoed Alexander and I'm vetoing William
(for Windsorish reasons!)

Already have a DS and DD. Naming prefs are for classic, formal names with plenty of decent nickname potential.

Want DCs to be able to adapt their name to suit rather than be defined by our tastes IYSWIM.

Ah I was going to suggest William! I'm no royalist either but it does seem to fit your criteria.

Edward & Christopher
Edward & Peter
Edward & Quentin
Edward & Henry
Edward & Theodore

George
Samuel
John
Benedict

Id go for Alexander of your two. Thomas was my first thought on seeing the title.

poppydaisy Wed 03-Oct-12 22:34:22

Not sure about the decent nickname potential of William though - Will, Willy grin

HarrogateMum Wed 03-Oct-12 22:34:28

disappointing about Alexander, I have one and it goes well with Edward (and he is a twin!). Charles? Alastair? James? Archie?

smalltown Wed 03-Oct-12 22:34:31

Not John.

Then they'd be Jedward. smile

Turniphead1 Wed 03-Oct-12 22:35:12

Edward and Quentin????

YeahBuddy Wed 03-Oct-12 22:35:59

My cousin called her twins Edward and William, the names do seem to work well together. How about George or Henry?

Turniphead1 Wed 03-Oct-12 22:36:03

Edward and Nicholas.
Aka Ted and Nick.

armedtotheteeth Wed 03-Oct-12 22:36:27

How about wilfred, or is the "ed" ending too similar to Edward?

Don't pick anything that could be combined to form Jedward!!

PelvicFloorClenchReminder Wed 03-Oct-12 22:36:33

I love Edward!

Edward and Sebastian?

cerealqueen Wed 03-Oct-12 22:36:59

I'm amazed at the number of people recommending William with Edward -Bill & Ted!!

Shame DH is not on board with Alexander.

I like Henry or Christopher or Nicholas from the suggestions here. Or Robert.

How about Alastair, Robin, Leonard, Peter, Benjamin?

I was going to suggest William.. What about Edward and Dominic?

PilgrimSoul Wed 03-Oct-12 23:20:12

Thomas my first thought too.

ShesADreamer Wed 03-Oct-12 23:22:44

Wow! Went for a bath and returned to such riches! Thank you.

Two of the most popular suggestions are already taken by DH and DS1 so you're all definitely on the right lines - very impressive.

Nicholas and David are very close friends, although I like both names, and Christopher is my DBil!

Like Theodore (Theo, not Teddy, obv), Andrew, Frederick, Henry and Thomas (although the last two are a bit Rev Awdry with Edward).

Thank you all so much, great suggestions. Will run things by DH later as he's glued to evil Savile expose ATM.

Edward & Thomas - ted & tom
Edward & Stanley - ted & stan

gazzalw Thu 04-Oct-12 10:30:07

Alexander, Alfred, Edmund, William, (don't do Theodore as some people might use Teddy which is an Edward diminutive too), Henry, Christopher (Kit for short), Nicholas

IWipeArses Thu 04-Oct-12 10:32:54

Not Theodore. Teddy and Teddy?

Know a family with an Edward, James, Paul, Peter and Johnny!

minipie Thu 04-Oct-12 15:01:01

I'd avoid Frederick - Ed and Fred

I think Theodore is ok though, if you call him Theo it's unlikely that people will use Teddy

Edward & Dominic
Edward & James
Edward & Julian
Edward & Justin
Edward & Benjamin
Edward & Felix
Edward & Oliver
Edward & Lawrence/Laurence
Edward & Max
Edward & Daniel
Edward & Patrick
Edward & Lucas

(some of these are repeats!)

cherrynapper Thu 04-Oct-12 16:03:35

Not Jacob - Edward vs Jacob from the Twilight series.

I know an Edward and Dominic

I like Robert, Ben, Charlie and Luke.

Arabellasmella Sat 06-Oct-12 21:18:47

Francis, Laurence, Thomas?
I know some real life twins called Max and Edward. They are 16 and cool dudes!

thetigerwhocametoteax Sat 06-Oct-12 21:22:29

Arthur? - we have an Edward and an Arthur grin

gazzalw Sun 07-Oct-12 09:35:50

Lots of these are really lovely combinations of names. Edward is a really strong and timeless name and would have been our first choice had it not been for a significant Edward amongst DW's romantic liaisons!

Think another vowel-starting first name for the other twin would work really well... - you could go down the Anglo-Saxon route and have an Alfred/Athelstan....? Arthur and Alexander work well too! Sorry getting carried away now!

FarrowAndBollock Sun 07-Oct-12 19:01:34

Edward and Benjamin
Edward and Charles (Charlie)
Edward and Alfred/Frederick (Alfie or Freddie)
Edward and Tobias (Toby)

RooibosWithMilk Sun 07-Oct-12 19:13:51

Thomas means 'twin'. So that makes sense!

I have twin boys called Michael and Edward! Obviously I love these names together because I chose them! Congratulations on your twin pregnancy

Way2Go Sun 07-Oct-12 20:58:14

No to Ed and Fred. confused

Bingdweller Sun 07-Oct-12 21:08:06

Edward & Theo gets my vote!

Pixieonthemoor Thu 11-Oct-12 20:04:15

Have no idea why but as soon as I read your op the name Austen popped straight into my head. Edward and Austen?

Teds77 Thu 11-Oct-12 20:26:47

Edward is my fave name buy we couldn't use for my twin boy. He's Matthew which we love. Other names we liked were Stephen, Robert, Stanley, Ivan and Peter. My DB is Nicholas otherwise we might have considered that too.

I feel a little sad for the twin boy who is getting his name chosen based mainly on whether it goes with his brother's name.

Why not just find a name you like?

But I don't have twins, so maybe there's something I'm missing.

youarewinning Sat 13-Oct-12 14:07:26

Aw congratulations on your pregnancy and twins grin

I love the names suggested here. I LOVE Edward and love the nn Teddy/Eddie. (DS best friend is an Eddie from Edward) They also have friends called George and Joe and Eddie, Thomas, Joe and George all seem to go well together!

My DS is Thomas Joseph so may be a bit biased in liking those with it!

My favourites from the suggested ones above are Edward and Theodore and Edward and Sebastian. (although Ed/Ted and Seb may be a bit of a mouthful!)

Tobias (Toby) or Sebastian? I think Ed and Seb sounds quite good shortened.

ShesADreamer Sat 13-Oct-12 14:37:03

Thank you all so much.
There is a wicked little bit of me that is terribly tempted by some of the comedy combinations but, having read the suggestions out to the family, DH likes Sebastian and the DCs like Theodore.

I think both are lovely so am letting them thrash it out between them!

We all liked lots of the other suggestions too but they are taken by friends/family.

Thanks again, hugely helpful of you all.

toomuch2young Sat 13-Oct-12 14:40:10

Edward and Zachary
Edward and Isaac
Think they have nice rings without being samey at all and ed and Zak are good nicknames.
Congratulations on your pregnancy

DeadQODy Sat 13-Oct-12 20:27:41

Theodore!!

Ed and Ted

RosannaBanana Sat 13-Oct-12 20:43:41

Sebastian much better IMO.
You can't control nicknames and you may well end up with Ed and Ted if you go with Theodore...

Another vote for Edward and Joseph or Edward and Oliver. Or actually I quite like Joseph and Oliver. wink
