Choosing a name- Caroline or Jane?

burmac Mon 17-Sep-12 01:00:48

I have a DD Caroline. There's one in every year at her school. It's a funny one for nicknames - ours has somehow become Cabs along the way and my aunt Caroline ended up as Taal

deleted203 Mon 17-Sep-12 01:19:54

Sweet! grin

emmyloo2 Mon 17-Sep-12 05:05:29

I like it a lot. Classic, simple, pretty and not used much these days.

emmyloo2 Mon 17-Sep-12 05:05:50

sorry and should add I much much prefer it to Jane.

YellowRiver Mon 17-Sep-12 05:12:03

Love it. Always wanted to use it if I ever had a DD but then when I met my DP he has a close relative called Caroline, so it's off the cards for us.
Had a childhood friend who got nicknamed Caz and an adult friend Cal... both inoffensive nicknames I think

perplexedpirate Mon 17-Sep-12 05:59:56

Love the name Caroline. I know several lovely ones too.

anamaria22 Mon 17-Sep-12 07:12:01

I know a Caroline nicknamed Cary. Jane is also a classic underused name these days.

TudorJess Mon 17-Sep-12 08:09:05

I prefer Jane.

Dogsmom Mon 17-Sep-12 09:16:30

I prefer Jane, I'm 37 and so knew a lot of Carolines at school and they were all called Caz.

reddaisy Mon 17-Sep-12 09:17:57

I also prefer Jane.

Caroline is lovely and any that I know are genuinely nice people.

Dont like Jane really.

We considered Janey, and a friend is considering Caroline. Both great names.

Makes me was to pronounce it like the OUtkast song.

bradbourne Mon 17-Sep-12 09:27:05

I like Caroline best - somehow seems like a cheerful name.

StormGlass Mon 17-Sep-12 09:30:19

I prefer Jane.

Startailoforangeandgold Mon 17-Sep-12 09:31:19

Jane is the dullest name ever.
Caroline is much nicer, but it's still a Mum name like Rachel, Janet, Jane, Susan or Caire.

Not sure you can revive it yet.

MolotovBomb Mon 17-Sep-12 10:40:31

Nice name although I personally prefer Carolyn.

MrsJohnDeere Mon 17-Sep-12 10:44:08

Caroline much nicer than Jane (I have Jane as a middle name, like most other 1970s children and I loathe it!)

I find it hard to imagine a baby or toddler called Caroline, maybe because I only know adult ones. confused High chance it will get shortened to Caz though.

dietcokeandwine Mon 17-Sep-12 11:29:29

I think Caroline is a lovely name. Probably fairly inevitable that she will become a Caz in her teenage years, but for a little girl I think the NN Carrie is very pretty smile

PeshwariNaan Mon 17-Sep-12 11:59:35

I think it's beautiful - it was my grandmother's name and I'd be using it except that my sister's reserved it in case she has a girl next.

Mintyy Mon 17-Sep-12 12:02:17

Beautiful. Classy. Excellent choice.

happybubblebrain Mon 17-Sep-12 12:03:47

I don't really like either.

I like it especially as its my name ;-) also jane is my middle name. I've never really had it shortened to anything, so i wouldnt worry too much about that

PollyIndia Mon 17-Sep-12 12:33:24

My mum's name so I like it smile

squoosh Mon 17-Sep-12 12:37:10

I really like Caroline. I know a few and none of them have ever been nicknamed Caz! I hate those Z nicknames, so ugly. Carrie is lovely though.

EverlongYouAreGoldAndOrange Mon 17-Sep-12 12:37:49

Sorry neither.

Both are dated, Jane is a bit dull.

NadiaWadia Mon 17-Sep-12 12:44:32

It's a really pretty classic name. Makes me think of the 'Sweet Caroline' song.

NadiaWadia Mon 17-Sep-12 12:45:31

And Jane is OK, but a bit dull. Would make a nice middle name though!

I really dislike both names, sorry.

mayanna123 Tue 18-Sep-12 10:01:53

Caroline or Jane would make a refreshing change from the huge numbers of little Ellies,Evies, Tillys, Millys, Poppys etc. Both are lovely classic underused names!

Minty82 Tue 18-Sep-12 16:27:27

Caroline's pretty - cute on a little one and elegant on a grown up. Carlie's another nn option?
And actually I think Jane's great - there are so few around these days it's gone from being the plainest possible option to a genuinely unusual choice!

derekthehamster Tue 18-Sep-12 16:33:14

I know a few Carolines, Only one has been shortened to Cal.

I'd love Caroline but unfortunately there are good reasons why it's out of the question. Oh well.

PiedWagtail Tue 02-Oct-12 11:20:59

Lol - so funny! Jane and Caroline are my and my sister's names smile I like them both - Caroline is v pretty and not reduced to a nn in our house.

HiHowAreYou Tue 02-Oct-12 13:16:22

I like Caroline. Carrie is a nice nn.

OrangeFireandGoldashes Tue 02-Oct-12 16:21:15

Nice classic name. I have known a few Carolines/Carolyns of different ages and nicknames have tended to be Caz, Carrie or Caro.

Jusfloatingby Tue 02-Oct-12 16:24:53

Caroline's okay but Jane is one of my favourite names.

scootle Tue 02-Oct-12 17:29:09

Gorgeous name. I was at school in the 1970s and there were quite a few around then, but none now. It suddenly occurred to me that I loved this name when dd2 was 1!

NightLark Tue 02-Oct-12 17:33:15

Love it, wanted it, DH vetoed it. Was going to call her Caroline (nn Callie).

Cezella Wed 03-Oct-12 00:11:08

I think it's nice but a bit mumsy. My friend Caroline gets called "Lines" by everyone which I think is cool

sausagesandwich34 Wed 03-Oct-12 00:14:43

I love the name caroline

went to school with one, nicknamed caz

I hate caz -ugh

doublemuvver Wed 03-Oct-12 20:19:50

my lovely sis-in-law is a Caroline but is also known at Cazmo!

Clawdy Wed 03-Oct-12 20:33:01

Carolina is nicer than either!

LoveYouForeverMyBaby Wed 03-Oct-12 21:56:28

I prefer Jane.
