We're currently considering Sarah...what do you think? Boring or a timeless classic? Other names on the shortlist are Lucy & Hailey. This baby naming malarky is driving me insane!

Like Sarah and Lucy, very different to the current trends of Ellie, Maisy etc. They are classic just a different kind of classic. The Current "classic" names are getting boring through sheer over use
not sure about Hailey, think I'ld probably warm to it

Sarah and Lucy are both lovely names, classic and not "boring"!
I like Hayley with a y.
I have a sister called Sarah and she's one of about a million born in the 1970s. Lucy is another name from that era that was wildly popular. I went to an all-girls school and I can't tell you how many Sarahs and Lucys there were - a lot! Now though, I know one little Lucy and no little Sarahs. I think they're both classic names and FWIW I've got two boys with very classic, but currently un-trendy names, so they'd get my nod. I'm not so keen on Hailey and you might have spelling confusion (Hayley), with that one. But if you're looking for something that's currently unusual, but that people will know how to pronounce, it will fit the bill.

I like Sarah. Lucy I'm not that keen on Hailey/Hayley is alright don't think I like the 'hay' bit
I love Sarah, speaking as one (born in the 80's). I love my name!! It is a timeless classic and means princess who doesn't love that!!

Sarah, was on our list but had a boy.
I also liked Sara.
Lucy is OK but I prefer Lisa.
Hailey is an odd spelling. I thought it was Hayley. Again OK but not as nice as Sarah.
Thanks for your thoughts. The shortlist has changed slightly...Hailey is off the list so we're now choosing between 1)Emily 2)Lucy 3)Sarah. Do you know of many baby Emily's? I think we may just see which one she looks like when she arrives! Thanks again.

GAH My 3 children know 11 Emilys between them - oldest 13 youngest 6 weeks.
Sarah is lovely, and can be 'shortened' to Sally or Sadie so lots of choice for pet names if you want them.

Sarah infinitely more beautiful, unusual and elegant than Emily IMO

I love Sarah and Emily...I've always had a special soft spot for Emily though, i love it for some reason. But Sarah is beautiful too. You can't go wrong. Lucy is OK imo. Emily and Sarah both VERY popular in Canada (have both been in top 10 for the last decade), not sure about UK. Lucy is uncommon here (i know one, she's 3 or 4 now).

PS I love Hailey too (with this spelling, but to me spelling doesn't matter that much, it's more about the sound). My order would be Emily, Hailey, Sarah, Lucy.
Sarah's definitely in the timeless classic camp - a lovely name.
Sarah is beautiful, one of my daughters has the middle name Sarah - Sadie after her great granny and sometimes I wish it was her first name

I'm called Sarah and my little sister is Lucy
I think you're safe now but the only big drawback of being a Sarah born in the 80s is I meet a LOT of them! Once worked somewhere and there were 4 of us in one team!
