Is Edward a nice name?

We already have a ds called Joseph.

Can anyone think of another name that is classic but not overly popular?

We want something that will stand the test of time, not something particularly modern.

We were thinking Edward, Eddie for nick name.

We also love Matthew but our last name starts with an M so really sounds awful. Any ideas?

I love it - it was my second choice for my new son Joseph! NN Ted.

2 of my friend's have a Jacob and I am not keen to have 2 names starting with a J.

Absolutely love Daniel but it's my brother's name- would hate for him to get big headed and

think we'd named him after him .

Yes it is, love Eddie, don't like Teddy though.

Wow Joesph's are popular on this site! (with good reason!) I still love the name, it's still

absolutely my favourite boy's name.. perhaps I should just call the next one Joseph 2!

Like William too but wouldn't it get shortened to Billy?

No I am not keen on Teddy or Ted either. Would definitely shorten to Eddie.

It is a nice name but by the time he goes to school he will be called Ed by all his mates.
It's happened to a friend of my DS.

Ed is fine too, just not Ted!

Ideally would have used Matthew but our last name is Markham and it just doesn't sound nice

unfortunitely, especially as it may be shortened to Matt as he got older Matt Markham is not good!

William Markham lovely! He could be Will rather than Billy?

Report
Isitmeorisither · 01/07/2010 20:42

Oh I do like William now! Hadn't even thought of it before strangely enough!

I do think William Markham sounds ever so cute, I must say.

Liam is another non Billy nickname.

I like it. I know a 35 year old Edward who's been known as Ned and is now Ed or Eddie. All great names.

Yes, definitely.

I like it. Ed is fine for short.

Like Joseph too, shortened to Joe, was just thinking what a cool name 'Joe Cole' is recently.

Oh no one of my friend's just said something about someone in Twilight being called Edward??

Do you think everyone will make that connection as he's growing up?

Love Edward and Teddy , but wouldn't have gone with our surname, Daniel is one of my brother's names, love it.
DS2 is Benedict (Benny) and I love that name (love DS1's too but it is deemed a bit too ubiqitous by MN although not many round here)

Lovely name. Shortened to Ed, Eddie or Ned. I love traditional names, will sound great with your surname.

Don't forget Edmund!

I'm not a fan of Edward but love Eddie or Ned. Andrew or David? Both quite classic and have just checked with older DC and they dont know any, and nor do I of younger DC age. Or Steven/Stefan?

See Edmund to me sounds like a serial killer's name and I can't think why but whenever

I hear the name I feel a bit scared like I should check under the bed and lock my door .
