Lydia, Lucinda, Penelope or Susanna

We seem to have narrowed it to these and are now stuck! I know Lucinda is horsey (and we're not) so would it sound a bit 'chav' to use this? It's DH's fave. I can't imagine shouting the full name in ASDA but I do like the potential nicknames. Think Lucy alone is quite dull (sorry to any Lucy's). His second fave is Penelope and I am wavering on this. I like Lydia and Susanna but he is less keen.

I really like Lydia Also quite like Penelope with Penny as NN. Not keen on Lucinda, but how about Lucia?

I like Lucinda, doesn't sound horsey at all to me. Reminds me of a book I loved as a child, set in 1890s NYC, heroine was called Lucinda. It's sweet but also pretty tough.

Lydia would be my second choice.

Lucia?

Lydia - I love this one. My dd was almost Lydia.
Lucinda - I do love it, but it's a bit pony club alright. Lindy is lovely too. Actually go for it. It's versatile..
Penelope - lovely. But I can't imagine saying 'penelope brush your teeth' 'penelope get your coat'. SO... think about whether or not you love Penny/Poppy/Polly enough to use as a first name
Susannah - I like Susie. Fits in with the rosies and daisys but it's under used in comparison right now.

Watch out because I think the last one is becoming a bit aspirational

I was at ASDA yesterday and this woman was talking to her daughter who must have been about 3. I said Oh what an unusual name and she said 'yes, I spell it S u s a n a h just to be different, innit'

I just went 'mmm' and scarpered.

she was one of those people you can't really describe on here without getting lynched.

but you know what I mean.

Only if you are planning to call her that in full all the time!! If she is normally Lydia then no problem and LL are quite nice initials I think.

I love Susannah, but prefer it with the final 'h'. Seems to balance the name somehow.

I don't like Lydia - I either think Lydia dustbin/teapot etc or think of Lydia the tattooed lady. Sorry.

I like Lucinda and Susannah though

I'm afraid I thought of Lydia the tattooed lady too! It's a beautiful name but the song has spoiled it somewhat. I like Penelope best. My son was either going to be Penelope or Imogen had he been a girl. I liked the versitility of Penelope as it's a 'grown up' name for a CV if she wants to be a lawyer or similar later in life but can be Poppy or Penny if she prefers.

All very pretty, Lydia is my favourite from your list.

I think Lucinda is nice. Since it's your Dh's favourite, why not try it for a few days and see how it settles?

Not sure about second names with it - imo Lucinda Penelope is a bit over the top, Lucinda Lydia doesn't work as well as the other way round. Lucinda Miriam?

DD is Lydia so I'm obviously biased. My second favourite is Susannah.

Lydia.

Also like Lucia as suggested.

1 Lydia- ace name
2 Susanna- nice
3 Penelope- bit wet, really. And a bit of a mouthful. But shortening to Penny gives you a v very dull and drippy name too

  1. Lucinda- no. Prefer Lucy.

All pretty, I prefer Susannah (shortened to Suzie) and Penelope (shortened to Penny).

I went to school with a Penny and she was very bubbly, and not at all drippy!

Personally not sure about Lucinda or Lydia.

All personal taste though.
