Sebastian

Baby boy 3 due in 5 weeks, we already have twins called William and Oliver, with chinese middle names and chinese surname.

We both like Sebastian but are there any other names we have missed, is it wrong to have just one name and not a list? One twin likes the name the other not to keen as there is a Sebastian in his class (who he likes)!

Very nice name! If I were you I'd trawl through a baby name book or two just to double check there isn't a name you like even more - but you can't go far wrong with Sebastian

I quite like Sebastian as long as it isn't shortened to Basty which I heard the other day

Psammead · 12/05/2010 11:24

I have heard it shorted to Seb or Bastian, both of which I like.

Nice name. Would have been on my list but DH vetoed it.

I think it's OK. It does fit well with your other two.

Love it, dp vetoed it.

I don't like Seb at all - it reminds me of sebacious (oily), I'm afraid.

Basty or Bastian are too close to bastard, so could be teaseworthy on that basis.

How about William, Oliver and
Edward
Thomas
Quentin
Tobias

It's one of my favourites names that I'd never dare use.

Go for it.

DS is Sebastian, aka Seb, Bastian, Basil and Seabass (my father's nickname for him).

Seabass is excellent That does it - Sebastian is going on my fantasy boy's name list.

Love it - my boy is Sebastian and everyone calls him Sebby - he is only 12mo and it suits him down to a T. We originally thought he would be Seb (hence the nn) but it has never seemed right for him. He may be Seb as he gets older - not sure I can imagine a teenager called Sebby but you never know!

Absolutely love it.

Sebastian is number one on my fantasy boys name list.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply
The only fly in the ointment is one of our boys is getting upset as he really doesn't want us to call the baby this name. Regretting telling the boys now hope it gets used to it

I love it & think it goes fabulously with your other names.

Maybe the twin who isn´t keen can choose a nn?

I don't like it sorry, love your twins names though.

I really like it (it's on my list but I'm not sure it goes with my surname which is a shame!)

Sebastian sounds nice.

I really dislike it. It sounds so wannabe posh. Ptolemy is the only name I can think of that is more Sebastian-ish than Sebastian itself.

The problem with a long name like Sebastian (or Benjamin) is that it will inevitably be shortened, and that imo is the problem with Sebastian. I really dislike Seb - it sounds so soft and reminds me of oily (sebacious).

Bastian is very close to bastard imo... and therefore potentially lends itself to playground teasing.

I think you really LUCKY to have one name and not a list!

Sebastian is perfect, maybe the less keen twin could help choose middle name?

Report
JeMeSouviens · 19/05/2010 18:32

It will be our DS2s name due in August. I love it, and I'm loving the SeaBass nn mentioned earlier.

Other names we considered were

Nathaniel
Tobias
