Lucia?

DH wants Lucy but I think its a bit dull and dont like Lucinda. Opinions on Lucia or perhaps Lucienne please. There is no Spanish/Italian in our family so is it tacky to go down this route?

My sil is Lucia (she pronounces it Loo-Chee-Ah), a really nice name. I would have chosen it for dd if my sil wasn't called Lucia... and ds wasn't called Luca Luca and Lucia... now that's just silly

Lucy is popular but gorgeous. Lucia is a beautiful alternative (Loo-che-a or Loo-see-a). And she could choose to shorten it to Lucy if she wishes.

DD's name, I'm biased- means 'bringer of light' and I don't personally think there's a name out there with a nicer meaning

I do have Spanish/Italian connections though--- you need to decide how you'd pronounce it. I prefer 'Loo-see-a' the Latin American Spanish pronunciation. Spanish would be Loo-thee-a, and Italian Loo-chee-a

I like it, and like Isabella, it is a name that I think is mainstream in a lot of countries. There are Lucias in lots of countries. I certainly wouldn't assume that an Isabella had foreign parents!!! NOw, if you named your daughter, I don't know, Rosario or Amparo, I might wonder if you were Spanish.

As you have a short sur name, I think Lucia Short would flow better than Lucy Short.

Actually, I don't know about Italy, but Annabel (Anabel) and Penelope (accent on 2nd e) are used in Spain. So all of your names have a kind of classic pan european versatility!

I have a Lucia! We call her Lucy (which I think suits a baby better) but she always has the option of calling herself by her full name when she's older.
