Isaac - too biblical?

It's a lovely name, but does anyone associate it with fire & brimstone, killing a son, blinding etc ... or am I just overthinking things???! In other words, is it a silly name for an atheist (i.e. me!) to use for their child??

Thanks for your thoughts!!

these days I would be surprised if most people know its origins. We have an Isaac at school. I like it

Isaac is a nice name. I would have used this if my PFB turned out to be a boy and I'm not particularly religious. I think you should go for it.

tbh I would assume you are a gung-ho religious family but I don't think it is an eccentric name choice at all. I have come across a couple but come to think of it, they were all American missionary families!

I always think of Newton not the Bible and Newton signals the age of enlightenment and rationalism!

I know a family with Jacob, Samuel and Isaac who are not in the least religious. The names just refelct name fashions at the time.

Agree that now quite mainstream. As atheist you shouldn't bother about the bible story.

I still think of it as quite full-on-Christian (and I speak as one of those!) along the lines of Noah, but realise it's way more mainstream in some areas. Love it! Know one wee Isaac who gets it shortened to Zac which I like too!
