Thoughts please! And how would you spell it; Colette or Collette?

Probably double l because its pronounced col-lette something I thought about when choosing names was my chidren learning to write and 2 lls won't make a difference to 1 l!!!!

I think it's a lovely name I would spell it Colette as it is derived from Nicole.

I used to know a Colette many, many years ago. She spelled it with one 'l', and was very nice. I like it

I quite like it, I would spell it like the author Colette (film of same name about her.) BTW Her real name was Sidonie, you don't get many of those round my way.

Definitely one l. I think it's a lovely name

However, am very funny about making sure that the t's are pronounced. Often in our area (Lanarkshire) these get kindof dropped and it sounds less pretty. Don't know if this is a universal UK or specific Lanarkshire issue.

I love it -- a beautiful French classic that's not too difficult to pronounce. I'd use one L.

I knew a few in Ireland where the T is pretty soft, and also one in the US, but it sounds lovely and recognisable no matter what the accent. I wouldn't worry about Lanarkshire. And the French T sound is not the same as any English T anyhow.

My SIL from Ireland is Colette (1 L). It's lovely, and so is she!

Oh, just have to say my parents love this name, which is why it is my name.

appparently it is either french or irish. the french spell it with one l and the irish two l.

My Dad is irish and I know a few Collette's over there. I am scottish and I have never met anyone else with my name here.

Also just moved from Merseyside where I came across another two Colette's. Definately not many Colette's about.

My Irish MIL is Colette. Never heard anyone else called it.

In Ireland there are loads of Colettes, but nearly all in their mid 30s to late 40s. It would be considered a fairly dated name over there.
