I know a 6 month old baby called Willa. I had no idea of the origins, but thought it was very sweet when I first heard her name - and still do!

Horrible name - too much like willy

How do you pronounce it?

My first thought was that she'll get called "Willy".

If it's pronounced "Villa", then it's the name of a football team.

Either way, I don't like it. Sorry.

I used to know someone called Willa, she'd be about 35 by now. It was a NN for Wilhelmina...

As in Willa Cather? (American author)

Her Willa was short for Wilella. I could imagine it as a nn for Wilhelmina as well (ouch).

Otherwise, I suspect people will always hear Willow and you'll spend a lot of time correcting them.

Willa (to rhyme with villa) is how most people would pronounce Willow in my neck of the woods. Just a thought.

Pronounced as in Will - a as in Willa Cather - she would just be Willa not Wilhelmina! Hmmmmm on first glance my Mum is setting a negative trend!

No, sorry, its a strange name, you have to think what other children may change it into later in life..kids can be cruel

"Ahhhhhhhh what are the chances?! "
Can't tell if you're joking or not.

My DD loves that 'Tell Me Something Happy Before I go to Sleep' book. That's got a Willa in it.

I think because Willow has got so popular, to say "Willa" would sound like you were saying Willow in a London accent. Like 'no I neva', 'I'm gonna', 'Oi Willa"

Dreadful. Sorry - you did ask.

I was being serious-have not divulged any names so pure chance she called her baby a similar name-true about Willa sounding willow in london . I don't know any Willow's - we live in rural west country so not really heard it apart from celeb land in magazines. Fair point though.

You might get some "Willa or won't ah?" jokes.

But then I live oop north, so am imagining people saying the name in a Yorkshire accent!!

Too much opportunity for kids to tease a Willa, I'm afraid.

Sounds very like Wilma, which I would consider a very 1950s American housewife name.

I don't know about the America you are talking about, but in my side of America, a Willa is a bike.

As in Tell me Something Happy - the book about the two rabbits, Willa and her brother Willoughby? (as mentioned I see by paisley)

I think it's sweet for a rabbit but sounds a bit for a girl. Too much like Willow said funny.

For some reason I saw 'Willy'. Put me right off.
