It means tree, doesn't it?

Classic and beautiful, not boring because of a. its classic nature and b. not many babies are called that these days, there will only be one in her class

I think it means Laurel tree, but I'm not too worried about the meaning. You don't really hear it for babies now though, do you? Tends to be Lauren, so am wondering whether it might sound old-fashioned. I do like it though.

It's totally lovely, OP. Also works well in many other languages

My Laura is 10 and I still love her name, so does she - we haven't come across many others. I think it's classic and pretty without being overly girly and try-hard.

I have a Laura and we don't know any others around. We wanted something classic but a little different from the usual names. Certainly doesn't seem old fashioned to me

agree with vinauchocolat, plus despite not being ubiquitous it is also one that everyone will be able to spell.

I like it.

I think it does sound old-fashioned, but in a lovely "Little House on the Prairie" type way. It's a great name.

Boring imo. Much prefer Laurel and Lara.

Classic, safe and pretty. I prefer Laurel and Lara too, but Laura is probably more unusual.

I like Leah and Nina too. Simple and pretty.

I'm a 25 yr old Laura by birth, I knew 2 or 3 Laura's in school and hated it so went to the solicitors when I was 10 (honestly) and asked to change name by deed poll. I just changed the spelling tho! To Lora. Much more modern/interesting. And I am very kooky so needed something to match my personality!!
Though it is pn'd the same, and tbh Im glad my mum gave me a sensible sounding name. Now I am getting my career off people take me much more seriously I feel than girls with silly names x

Not so keen. We had quite a few in our year at school so I tend to think of it as being contemporary with my generation and I avoid such names, on the whole.

Love it, and Lauren and Laurel.

I think it's great and I know a baby Laura atm. Really nice.

I've only ever met two Lauras in my life and both have been utterly lovely. Great name.

P.S Its true, all Laura's are really nice people! ;)

a bit boring.

I'm a Laura and was in a class with 4 others (!). I tried to convince people to call me just 'L', put it didn't quite catch on...

Anyway, I digress. I have always enjoyed being called Laura and think it is a great name - added benefit of it not seeming to be too popular at the moment.

Think it's lovely, I don't think it will date as there aren't loads of them about at the moment.

We thought about Lara for our dd - we wanted something with a slightly Russian feel - but it was at the time of the Tomb Raider films...

My DD's Laura, so I obviously love it.
It's got a nice 'aura' about it I think.
