plumchutney · 25/03/2010 16:55

At least I'm hoping this will be my final list... Please vote for your favourite girl's name. Thanks.

Isla
Isabella
Florence
Eliza
Honor
Violet
Hope

Apparently Isla and Isabella are very popular at the moment - how many do you know and how old are they?

They are a teensy bit dull.

Have you considered:

Marzipanetta
Cholesterola
Diabetella

They are all still quite unusual.

They are all names that come up on these boards regularly. Honor is probably the most unusual.

I know a couple of Isabellas and Elizas/Elises.

My Favourites are Violet and Florence; but TBH none of them are horrible - nice list!!

They are all nice and pretty but are popular if that is an issue.

I would say Honor and Hope are the least common.

My favourites are Violet and Florence.

Thanks for the responses so far. I don't mind if my daughter has a name that's popular but ideally she'd be the only one in her class. It doesn't matter so much if there are other girls with the same name in her school year. Obviously there's no way of predicting how popular a name will be in her school so we'll choose a name we like and hopefully our daughter will too.

I like Honor and Violet

I only know 1 Isla she is about 8, and no Isabellas, only an Isobel

Florence.

But I also like Hope a lot.

I know 2 little Islas (babies) , and about 5 Isabelle/Isabellas (one is 6 the others 2 and under). Also 2 baby Violets.

All nice names - love Florence but what with F& the machine I expect it will do a Ruby in terms of popularity and quickly date.

Honor and Hope are my favorites

My favourites are Hope and Florence.

Florence Hope would be a nice name

Report
Maggie00 · 25/03/2010 17:47

Honor.

Hope makes me think of premature babies. Sorry. Joy is mms than Hope.

I like Eliza too

Maggie - what does mms mean? I assume it means better, or similar. I like the name Joy too.

What nicknames could we use for Honor - or would you just use the full name?

Isla, Florence and Honor are my favourites. Honor is probably the least popular, if you take that sort of thing into account.

I presume mms means more my style, plumchutney.

I'd use the full name for Honor and see what happened. Nicknames evolve from personality in my experience.

more my style! and that just mean, 'i like it more'. I should have just said that to start with!

Isla -- yes it's popular, but I still like it
Isabella -- I've lost count of the number of Isabellas/Isobels I know
Florence -- just OK for me
Eliza -- LOVE
Honor -- LOVE
Violet -- too close to violent and also wispy; reminds me of 'shrinking violet'
Hope -- LOVE

I love Hope, Honor and Eliza, and like Isla.

Also love Honora (can be shortened to Nora). Instead of Hope (agree with the preemie comment but still love it), how about Esperanza?

Isla- pretty but yes, growing in popularity
Isabella- as above, except even more popular1
Florence- lovely, again growing in popularity
Eliza- love this too but above comments would probably still apply
Honor- v nice and less popular.
Violet- like it a lot, becoming more popular too.
Hope- nice mn.

Eliza Hope would be v pretty or Isabella Violet.

Have you considered:

Constance/ Connie
Flora
Isadora/ Ismay
May
Iris
Ivy
Verity
Nora/ Eleanora

Honor's lovely. Why not Honour though?

Love Florence.

Hope and Honor are nice.

Isabella too popular wit al the Isabel/Isobel variations around too.

I don't know any Isla's in RL, just seen it mentioned on MN alot.

How about Orla? Similar but more unusual perhaps?
