Newbie and Names

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the forum and to the whole pregnancy thing! been browsing for a few days now. I'm due May 30th and have the following names so far:

Eleanor Sophie
Sophie Eleanor (we just can't decide which way round!)

Our friends have a 2 year old Ella - but I guess this is different?

And if it's a boy

James Alexander
Luke Alexander

Am a little concerned that James is too popular.....It's so tough!

Any other similar suggestions?

I love Eleanor! Very elegant and pretty. I think it would flow better with Sophia rather than Sophie, though. Don't think Sophie Eleanor works.

Luke Alexander is fab. James does seem a little ubiquitous.

Other possible boys:

Alec James (I prefer Alec to Alex.)
Malcolm Luke

how about Alexander James? A bit biased as I know a lovely little boy with that name. I think James and Luke are lovely too.

I prefer Eleanor to Sophie, both are nice though.

Sophie Eleanor -- there are millions of Ellies and Ellas (they all blend into one) and Eleanor is doomed to be Ellie, Elle or Ella no matter what you feel about nn's. So since your friend's DD's name is Ella, I would avoid Eleanor as a first name. Would you consider Leonora?

I like both of your boys' names (sorry). I also like Alec and Alexander as first names. Maybe James just pips Luke.

I like James and Luke for a boy - why not wait to see what he looks like when you meet him?

Sophie and Eleanor both hugely popular although lovely names. Not sure if you mind how popular they are or not? Along similar lines;

My ds would have been Elinor

Not too keen on Luke personally.

I personally think 70's names like Gillian and Jennifer are due a revival.

I also know a sweet little Hettie.

Can't really have Alexander as a 1st name, as much as I like it, because it's my brother's name and a family name - so wanted to keep as middle.

I like Lara too - so considering that also for middle name, and I quite like Eve. Like Leonora too - will have to run that past hubby.

I think we'll keep it between two names and then decide once we meet him/her! Though I'm convinced it's a boy!

Congrats on your pregnancy! I have an Eleanor and James was on my shortlist for a boy so those would be my choices
