What do you think of Amiela? Do you think it will work with a surname that starts with M?

it depends if you have misspelled AMELIA or are suggesting AMY ELLA.....

Neither. It is a Hebrew name.

People will not know how to pronounce it & will assume that you have misspelled Amelia...

I also thought you had misspelt Amelia which is far nicer IMO

Misspelled Amelia? Will you be living in the UK? If not may be fine - here she will be destined for a tedious explanation every time she has to give her name.

Er... I didn't think it was Amelia. I read it as A-meela (or Ammy-ella). I live in the UK (London) and teach lots of children with a huge variety of names from various cultures. Don't find it particularly difficult to cope with . Would prob assume Indian origin actually, though wouldn't faint in horror if you weren't Indian...

A-meela is pretty. Ammy-ella too. Don't know if it is pronounced differently!

It would be a lifetime of mis-spelling im afraid!

From reading the thread I'm still not sure how you pronounce it but if it's Am-ee-ella I think it's very pretty and unusual. I really liked the name Amelia for my DD but was a bit put off by how popular it is so this would be a nice alternative - and goes fine with an M surname - what is the meaning? Also if it's from Hebrew then perhaps you could spell it differently to make the pronounciation more obvious, after all the original Hebrew letters would be different anyway.

Sorry - i thought it was mis-spelled too

I too would be worried about confusion with Amelia - of which I am not overly keen (Amelia seems a bit yummy mummy "I'm middle class" to me - nice enough name but I'm just not an Olivia/Isabel/Amelia type of gal).

Amiela - not keen either, sounds very girly to me - but then I just don't do frilly.

Hi GoldysMum

It means people of God. I would pronounce it Am-ee-EL-la.

I do like it a lot but not quite sure how you would get round the issue of pronouncing it - Maybe by spelling it with a hyphen to make it clearer - Amie-Ella - not sure!

By the way, I saw your other posting and I like Kia and Marisol for girls - I know a Mexican Marisol who is lovely. I also like Issachar for a boy. I think they are great names and lovely that you can choose names from such a wide choice of cultures. Not so keen when people just randomly pick a name from a culture that has no meaning to them.

Love it -- I think it's much nicer than Amelia. I think it would work with the M surname.

I love it, much nicer than Amelia (which I also lovedas a potential name for DD2, until DH pointed out that it actually means lacking in limbs)

It is very pretty if you can get past having to explain the pronunciation and spelling a lot

Nice name. There would be the spelling thing when peopel know the name but don't know how to write it, or people pronouncing wrong when they read it. But hey, there are tonnes of names like that.

But I think it's lovely actually
