... Coco Chanel [surname]

That's firstname - Coco, middlename - Chanel.

Is it just me, or is that truly dreadful?

I love the name Coco, but dislike Chanel. It is very unique though!

I cant make up my mind if its pretentious or chav Probably Coco could be quite sweet depending on what surname but there really was no need for Chanel ...

It´s OK, although I se it as a nickname.
It seems to be used indiscriminately.

Her name was Gabrielle.

Stings daughter has it as a NN & I don´t think it´s "related" to her real name.

Isn´t it the name of Courtney Cox´s daughter?

No, I don't think that it is 'truly dreadful' .

I think Coco is quite sweet for a girl and certainly more interesting than all the Ellies, Evas and Graces around these days.

Are people missing the fact that it's already someone's name - like Giorgio Armani [surname] or Vivienne Westwood [surname]?

I like Coco as a nn, not sure it works for a grown up (or not round here, anyway ).

Naming your child after someone is a bit of a weird homage unless you're a fashion designer yourself or something.

Coco is fine for a nickname. It's no name for a grown woman!

Very odd to have a person's name as their child's first name and second name.
What shall they pick for next DCs?
Vivenne Westwood (surname)
John Rocha (surname)

Jo Whiley has a Coco Lux I think.

She can at least pretend the Chanel does not exist.

Courtney Cox's daughter Coco is named after her mother, also called Courtney but was always called 'Mama Coco' to Courtney's friends.
Coco Chanel is a bit mad. Like the guy with the surname Walker who called his son Luke Sky. However a tiny bit of me thought that was ace

Coco is a bit like Pixie - fine until you're about 22, and then it's kind of hard to take seriously in a grown, professional woman. A bit like Dr Pixie in Embarrassing Bodies, who just makes my teeth hurt.
