Hi

DH & I are expecting our 1st baby. We can not agree on ANY names. We do not know if were having a boy or girl which is another problem...Have my scan in a couple of weeks (will be 22wks)he wants to find out, I dont....god knows how were going to be "solid" parents!?
My compromise at the moment is if he finds out the sex, he forfeits his right to have a say in the name, surprise surprise...he disagrees.....HELP!

hi

congrats on your pregnancy

i think it might be a good idea to each write out a list of names you both like and then when that is done mark each name out of 10 on eachothers lists, whatever ones get a higher 'mark' go on your list together. dont worry if you are not agreeing on names yet as you have loads of time left yet. when i was having DD me and DH couldnt agree on a name and we didnt find out what we were having either so it was quite irritating getting to 41 weeks and still not sure on the final list lol we ended up calling DD her name as she just was the name and it was my choice too DH had originally vetoed the name we eventually called her

The list idea is a good one. You've got time in hand, so one of you might also find you come round to one of the other's names. DS2 is now called a name that at 22 weeks I'd have only just considered as a middle name - it just grew on me!

Good luck with both the pregnancy and the name choice.

Complete nosiness, but what names do you like and what names does your husband like?

Hi lljkk, I like Ethan & Ava...he likes Oliver & ?...He did like Ava til I disagreed with nearly every name he suggested! Before I fell pg we had agreed on Oliver but now I really dont like it....neither of us are very good with Girls names!!!

I had a long list of names, but DH vetoed nearly every one entirely, but then couldn't come up with ANY himself.

Late on in the pg, he then picked up the (much-pored) baby names book and picked one.

That was The One (damn him) - perfect - and I had completely over-looked it.

I got one of my list for DS 2 though, but this time we named him after he was born. Don't rule that out .

I think the first baby name is a lot about fantasy, and it might not be right until you see the baby. So I'd advise whittling it down to 2 or 3 names.

Ha bless you, we are always the same.

When having my daughter who is now 6, OH picked out a name for a boy and i completely vetoed it.

However we know have a 10 month old son with that exact name and i now love, love, love it!

Making a list is a must and you may also find that the names you like change (especially when you see the little cherub for the first time)

As for finding out the sex, i always say to people with your first baby especially it is such an amazing surprise, like nothing else. You'd never experience that again. It was 20 mins after delivery that i asked my OH whether the bundle i was feeding was blue or pink

I found out with my second bundle, i couldn't contain my excitement at the scan.

If we are luck enough to have another, i think i'd leave it a surprise again as we now have one of each

Good luck and i hope the rest of your pg is happy and healthy! xxx

Also do you want something firm and traditional such as

William or Catherine

or would you be more inclined to go for something such as

Kaiden or Ellie?

Long names, short names?

you could look through the top 100 list, each putting a tick, a cross or a maybe. Not necessarily names you definitely want, just ones you like. It might give you more of an idea of each of your taste in names?

Thanks all...WOLFBLASS...Im up for either - as mentioned above I like Ethan & Ava...also like Thomas & James...not vey good on the girl front!
DH likes Oliver but its always the same argument - I immediately think Oliver Twist...& every other name is the name of a dog/cat/some horrible person I used to know!!!
