Dilema

Hi y'all,

My DS is called Dylan Charles and we are expecting another little lad.

The dilema is that our favourite name for him is Charlie. Do you think this is ok as DS has Charles as his middle name? I actually dislike the name Charles (he was named after DH's grandfather) so wouldn't use Charles as this baby's name. He would be just Charlie or Charley?

The only other name we like is Finn or Finlay.

His middle name will definitely be William after my grandpops!

What would you do??

I ........ don't think it's the end of the World, but I wouldn't.... I think you can grow to love another name.

In fact, you say you both like Finlay. finlay William is 'stylistically' on the same page as Dylan Charles. Something fashionable+SOMEthing classic. it works, you both like it. They sound like brothers.

Thank you for your speedy response, I was hoping I'd get one before I went off to bed!

Which name do you prefer MaggieTaSeFuar?

finlay william is a good name!

you'll get more opinions tomorrow i bet.

Finlay William does sound good. Personally I much prefer Finlay to Charlie. Finlay goes better with William than Charlie does.

Thanks Maggie.

What other names in the same genre as Dylan & Finlay would you suggest to me? I think Charlie must be quite fashionable too as I didn't know any when I was growing up!

I prefer Charlie to Finlay, and don't see the problem with using it twice... after all noone really uses their middle name anyway! Plus it's not going to be exactly the same name.

Love Dylan btw, it's going to be the name of our DC2 if it's a boy!

I don't think is matters too much- people rarely use middle name.
Dh and his brother share BOTH the same names- only turned round
i.e david arthur, arthur david (but not those!).
TBH, i did think my MIL slightly batty for this- but they are just david and arthur, never their full names, anyway.

I wouldn't re-use personally.

Agree with PP about style link; would go Finley (e rather than a, myself) William

I thought you were seeking opinions of the name "Dilema". Wouldn't surprise me on MN!

I don't think it matters at all to re-use a middle name. Just tell DS2 you wanted to him to have one of your two favourite names. Then give him a middle name that's all his own.

Miles, Milo, Oscar and Henry spring to mind as similar in style to Finley.

I wouldn't reuse it either. Finlay is a nice name and goes well with Dylan.
