Phineas

What are your thoughts on this name? It is very unusual and is Biblical I think?

I have never met one so I find it hard to imagine on a person, but I am really falling for it. My husband loves the name Finn so I think I may be able to sway him.

I'm a very big fan of Trollope, but even I would draw the line at Phineas. Stick with Finn.

I rather like it, probably because The Pallisers was shown during my formative years and Phineas Finn was rather cute.

not keen. it sounds like you want to use Finn, but realise that's quite mainstream now, so you are turning it in to Phinneas. I think I prefer Fintan, Finbar, Finian, Findlay, just about every other version!

What about Fionn. The Irish version of Findlay. It is pronounced Fyunn. Not FeeOn. One syllable. Fyunn.
maybe you have to be irish to like that one!

Sorry, the show might not be on anymore when your DS goes to school so no-one may get the association then. Unless they have older siblings. Finn is a gorgeous name though

I used to know one - long before poncy names were fashionable.
It always struck me as quite a good sort of poncy name because if the kid didn't like it they could shorten it to Finn which has a very different set of associations.
Come to think of it, the one I knew aged 7ish used to run around pretending to be a superhero called SuperPhin.

I too remember the Pallisers - used to beg to stay up and watch. But yes I wouldn't really use Phineas. What was the name of the cad Susan H loved- Burgo? Fitzgerald. (bellissima knows that she should be cultured and read the book ).
