Got a Isabelle, thinking of Elizabeth - stuck for a boy

Hi All,

Hoping for some inspiration please.

We already have an Isabelle ( Issy), and our surname is the most common in Scotland. So have always thought we need strong, wow first name to carry it - especially for a boy.

Sooooooo...

1st girl choice is Elizabeth, but struggling to find a shortened version we like ( No Eliza, Beth, Bess, Liz, Lizzy ( actually like Lizzy - but can't have Issy and LIzzy !!!!) Lil. Ella is the best for us, but my friend says she thought of this an entirley different name nothing to do with Elizabeth, so now worried, and think I should try and find a new name to bypass problem.

Also if we have a baba boy - I'm stumped. So any suggestions to go with Isabelle will be very gratefully recieved. Possibles that have been dismissed - Harry, Charlie, Max, Ramsay.

Thank you.

Please don't use Elizabeth when you have an Isabella - the former is simply an English translation of Isabel (Spanish) via Isabelle (France) and Isobel (Scottish). But Elizabeth and Isabel are the same name even though we have both.

I have an Isabel, btw. And her little brother is Benedict. Also think of Alexander.

ALso try Alexandra, Florence, etc..

See I was swayed to Elizabeth because of the connection. I didn't think it was that common knowledge and liked the subtle link - Hmmmmm perhaps not so subtle !!!!.

She's an Isabelle - as we're scottish, but french spelling.

Sister has an Alexandra, and best friend ( who threw the Ella spanner in works!), has an Alexandra, so no. Have a secret hankering for Alexia and be done with it but friend would EXPLODE - I love her, but I know that will be her reaction.

Do like Florence ( was our honeymoon), but it's just not clicking some how.

Thanks for all the help.

I agree, personally I wouldn't have an Isabelle and an Elizabeth, though they are both lovely names - she will end up getting called Liz or Lizzy at school whether you like it or not! How about Eleanor, you could call her Ellie?

Boys names that go with Isabelle - George, William, Henry? All quite classic names.

I'd definitely refrain from using Elizabeth if you have an Isabelle as it's the same name, and I think it is quite common knowledge.. it's fine for a middle name though, nice connection in that way

Hmm, boys, um, Benjamin goes well... I'm not much good with boys names sorry!

O.K. - Elizabeth is no more!.

Eeek that leaves me without boy or girl name! - and a DH that knows lots about what he doesn't like but not very good at suggestions.

Is Adrienne and Vivienne trying to hard ?, and too psuedo french with Isabelle, when we live on a farm in deepest darkest Scotland.

Aaaaggghh - thought would relish name choosing but it's becoming a thing of stress rather than pleasure!

Thanks to all.

Adrienne and Vivienne are lovely - too of my favourite names, dd2's second name is Adrienne.

What about Catherine/Beatrice if you like classic pretty names?

Thanks Belgo,

How do you pronounce Adrienne for your DD2 ?

Is it Add-dree-ann, Add-dree-enn or Aid-dree-ann or other?

What do find most people default to?

Thank you Thank you - love a real life example !!

it's pronounced Ad-dree-enn - but it's her second name so rarely spoken!
