Baby names

We are having trouble finding 'the one'

We have a 2 year old Oliver and expecting DS2 in March.

Shortlist is:

Daniel
Reuben
Dylan
Toby

We can't decide - none really 'jump out' to us - help!
Any other suggestions very gratefully received.

I love Dylan, my Dylan has just turned one and he is gorgeous.

He was going to be Toby but I had loads of people tell me it is a slang word for penis in Scotland and we are nowhere near Scotland. So I got put off.

I love love love Reuben, it is a lovely name.

Daniel is ok but it is too popular for me.

Haven't heard of the Toby meaning in Scotland

Dylan is my favourite too, but DH less keen.

Boys names are so much harder I think.

I like 75% of that list. Dylan will date quite badly I think..

Daniel very classic and very nice. Danny is cute.
Reuben is lovely that was on my list too.
Toby is great, love that. I'd go for Toby, Reuben or Daniel in that order.

I loved Richie, Marcus, Victor, Donald, Patrick, Howie/Howard, Dominic, Gregory, Guy, Gideon.. If you're posh enough, Julius or Hugo. I wasn't lol. All classic but a bit quirkier than Edward, James etc.....

Good luck!

No I hadn't, we're in North Yorkshire so about 200 miles from Scotland so I was really shocked that everyone seemed to know about it.

I'm not posh enough Maggie, lol!

My concern with Reuben, is if it's shortened to Rubes, what it rhymes with (playground humour and all of that!). But then, it could get shortened to Ben, which I love.

yeah, i thought that as well, could be 'ben' if you need a short form. it's a good name. to be honest, there are going to be rubys out there, they'd hate being rube the pube more i bet!

Reuben is the best not so keen on the others. But then im calling mine Brandon if its a boy (so some may say not to trust my judgement!)

I really like Daniel

We were same with ds3, couldn't think of a name and nothing "jumped out" at us but then about 2 months before he was born, we suddenly decided on the name and couldn't think why we hadn't thought of using that one earlier!

I know an Oliver and Dylan - lovely brothers. Maybe because of this the other names don't run quite as well to my ear...?

Do you abbreviate Oliver at all? If so Olly and Dan sound great together. (And have just read your later posts - Olly and Ben too).

Reuben's a lovely name... Toby's ok.

Good luck.
