am due on boxing day (!!) and I think we are agreed on the name if its a girl (Emilia Grace - do you like?) - and both love George if its a boy, but middle name is a potential problem as my partner, an engineer, is set on George Isambard. Thoughts please? I kinda see where he is coming from, and half of me thinks its very cool. The other half thinks the poor mite will get teased to bits at school! I am a fan of George Ruskin (Ruskin is the name of the building we used to live in, where baby was conceived).

Any thoughts would be appreciated....

Emilia Grace very pretty - but George is totally FAB!!! And I LOVE either middle name. Think it's great to be a bit different with your inspiration.
And after all Brunel rocks!

George is a lovely solid traditional name, and in most aspects of life he won't need to use the Isambard bit will he?

He may be a bit when graduating or getting married, but other than that he can usually be known as just George, surely?

Emilia Grace is very pretty

Go for it with Isambard! Ruskin was a bit weird - his wife had to divorce him for failure to consummate the marriage (allegedly because when he saw her naked for the first time he couldn't believe that's what women really looked like). Isambard is a safer bet in my book!

I quite like Isambard-and the reasons for using it!

Or even Brunel!

Emilia Grace is lovely.

Isambard is fantastic! I would advise you against it if you were considering it as a first name but as a middle name it's lovely - especially with George which is a brilliant name!! I went to uni with a guy that had the middle name Valentine and it was just a really intersting, quirky thing to find out.

I think your girl's choice is lovely but beware; my friend has an Emilia and is fed up with everyone assuming it's Amelia.

I think it's brilliant too, you can be a bit braver with middle names since they don't get used very often.

George is GORGEOUS and he'll be forever known as gorgeous George.

My DH did engineering at uni and we were considering Isambard as a middle name for our DS. Didn't use it in the end but I do love it (as a middle name).

How exciting - not long to go now

p.s. don't think Isambard is any 'worse' than Ruskin for teasing by the way...

Not much help here - I love your girls name, and both options on the boys name! Congrats And keep your legs crossed on Christmas day!!

I like an alternitive middle name. It's so much more fun and a social advantage I think.
Whenever your ds is having the 'what's your middle name' conversation, he'll have a story to tell.

I really like George and do think that interesting middle names are fantastic (especially as George is quite solid, traditional and popular). I personally prefer Ruskin.

I like Emilia but think Grace is a bit of a "filler" middle name, in the same way that most people of my age have Louise or Ann as their middle names.

I think Brunel would be a much cooler middle name than Isambard.

Don't choose Isambard if your surname begins with T (or possibly N), and forget Brunel if it begins with H.
