DD is Iona Jane and now looking for girl/boy names - liked Iona as I was one of 6 with my name in my class at school and DH one of 4!

Sort of like the following but none quite right yet

Erin
Beth(any)
matilda
Evie (love it but DH thinks too popular

Isaac
Eli (love this I think!)
Miles
Noah

any thoughts ideas greatly appreciated! We like unsual but not 'too different' if that makes sense

Erin - nice, although I thik the vowels + n sound make it similar to Iona
Beth(any) - I like Beth
matilda - nice
Evie (love it but DH thinks too popular - I really like Eve, with teh nickname Evie, Iona and Eve are nice together.

Isaac - not keen
Eli (love this I think!) - not keen at all
Miles - no
Noah - no, you can't! ALmost an anagram of Iona

Erin
Beth(any)
matilda
Evie

Isaac
Eli (love this I think!)
Miles
Noah

Out of your list if you are worried about having a few in the class, then near me, Erin is your best bet for a girl and Eli or Miles for a boy. Out of the boys names I really like Eli.

Miles or Beth(any)

Erin is horrible
Evie is beautiful but it is popular
Matilda is ok, can't understand why everybody loves it so much.

Isaac, love this one. could be just Zak which I also like
Eli - no. bit feminine, very long grey beard holding a stone tablet and cane imo
Noah, very like Iona, give them their own consonantSS.

Vanessa

conor

Matilda, isaac and noah are extremely popular round here, litterally every other child

I pretty much like all your names. except Miles

First choices would be:

Erin

Isaac/Eli

Another nice name beginning with E is Elvie (girl)

What about Evan or Asa for a boy ?

Like your boys' names but i would avoid isaac and perhaps noah as they are very common round here just now. Eli is quite cool but I really like Miles.

Bethany is great.

I'm not blown away by your other girls' names and it doesn't sound like you are - evie and all versions of it are mindblowingly popular just now(though in reality that still probably translates to perhaps 1 other in her class, so it's not that bad)

Roisin
Rhiannon
Serena

ok name lists getting longer....
Beth
Bethany
Brooke
Dorothy
Elizabeth
Ellie
Erin
Evie
Matilda
Skye
Elsa
Seren
But none of these are 'right'

Alexander
Devon
Eli
Isaac
Logan
Noah
Tobais (Toby) - like this
Zachary

thoughts?

A lot of your name choices are really popular names.

I would worry about calling a boy Eli, I think that people would continually misread the name and assume that it was a girl called Ellie.

Please don't have Iona and Skye sounds way too twee as they are both islands. I know a Lewis and Harris
I prefer Miles to the biblical names on your first list.
From your extended list I like Elizabeth, Elsa and Seren, Alexander and Logan.

Isla
Mhairi
Eilidh
Ailsa

Aonghas
Finn
Oisinn
Innes
Euan
Ruairidh

orla is an Irish name (DDs first name)as opposed to a Scottish one.

We both LOVE Isla... sadly doesn't go with Tyler (our surname!)

Not worried about one being scottish one Irish - is this really a big deal? we don't have any connections to either!

Euan is nice... just not right!

What about the name Hamish? It is a gorgeous name and seems to go really well with Iona

Report
stressedHEmum · 22/09/2009 23:06

Scottish/Irish thing isn't really important if your not Sottish or Irish, it's just that Iona is such a Scottish name. I am both, so was commenting from that perspective.

I like Hamish - but DH says no! Think we have decided against another island... Finlay was on the list to start with, but DH not too keen...
